Confirmed: God of War to use 333MHz processing
After a brief rant about E3, Cory Barlog has updated the Playstation.blog with one crucial new confirmation: the game will use the newly-unlocked 333MHz speed of the PSP. "Many people are asking if God of War: Chains of Olympus is going to take advantage of this. The short answer is yes we are! Ready at Dawn has been doing some pretty amazing stuff with the PSP since the early days of the platform. Every time I see a new build I am more amazed with what we're able to pull off with the PSP."
It's incredible to think that Ready at Dawn was able to pull off such incredible graphics before the processor speed was unlocked. Now that the talented team of programmers has access to PSP's full power, it'll be interesting to see what else Ready at Dawn will be able to pull off.

all this time people wonder why all the sudden 333mhz, obviously it's for GoW. PLEASE tell me other developers will take advantage of this from now on. I wonder... if Crisis Core can do it at 266. why can't GoW?

what makes you think that crisis core is running at 266mhz? To my knowledge, SE hasn't said anything about what cpu speed crisis core is running at.

what make you think Crisis Core ISN'T running at 266? when every game since PSP launch is running at 266. (although I have a feeling most of them are running below that). Let's face it, Sony is only disable the 'underclock' so GoW can run. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if no further game will take advantage of this.

kingofwale, only one game runs at 266Mhz currently, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters. The rest of them run at 222Mhz.

Yeah, I got a feeling that's true. because some of the games I've been playing, there's NO WAY it's running at 266. Although my PSP has been running at 333 for a while now. Thanks for OE.
I don't believe CC is running at 333. although I don't doubt that it will be the second game running at 266.

All past PSP games have ran at 222 MHz, including Ratchet! Dunno how many times I have to say this... PSPFanboy should really correct that old article.
Gamasutra even confirm it... all past games were locked to 222.

Also I am willing to bet future titles like Crisis Core will also be running at 333. Sony didn't just do it for GoW.

I wouldn't call "Crisis Core" a future title, the game's due out in Japan on Sept 12th, it's almost done, it's way too late to implement something like CPU speed.
I do wish future games will run on 333. I much rather go out to buy another battery than playing crappy games with bad framerate (I'm looking at you MLB the show 07)

Given my PS1 running at 333 via memory stick. That lasts me about 5 hours. I'd say a game running at 333 via UMD probably last 4-4.5
not bad, if it helps with game experience, I have no problem with it.

I think 4-4.5 hours is WAY too much, the battery-life will be much shorter. The most recent title I own, Tony Hawk's Project 8, runs out of battery in under two hours! It's ridiculous, and that's even without wifi and at presumably 222Mhz. And the game still suffers from heavy slowdowns :(

So, what, the PSP up till now has been only making use of 2/3 of it resources processing-wise? Well hot damn! I think it's been doing a fairly impressive job. Sure there are a few slowdowns here and there with certain games, but nothing to really tarnish my overall enjoyment of the system in general. In fact, coming from the world of mid-range PC-gaming, my only significant gripe with the PSP is the lack of anti-aliasing, but considering it's the bleeding edge of handheld computing and makes it nearest competitor look like furry dog poo, graphically (and in my humble opinion, pretty much all of the other areas too, including games), you can't really complain. No indeed, I'm super impressed by what Sony has managed to accomplish.
