PS3 selling great in Australia, says Ephraim

To the rest of the world, the unit count of 50,000 may not seem like many at all. In fact, many people in many parts of the world would consider such a low number a "failure". However, in Australia, the opposite is true. Sort of. Are you ready for some PR-speak that should be looked at objectively and dissected as if in a science lab? We are, so let's go.

Managing director of Sony Australia, Michael Ephraim, is taunting the competition by claiming since its launch on March 23rd, the PS3 has been the best selling next-gen console week after week (excluding last week). It has sold 50,000 units since launch and triumphantly guffaws at Nintendo's paltry 100,000 units sold since the beginning of December 2006. Can you find our sarcasm?

We're not telling Sony to "shhh" or anything, as the numbers do seem to support their claim on a weekly basis. Since the PS3 launched (and many people may have already picked up a Wii by then), it has been selling the best of the three down under. We just wonder if the system will continue selling as it is there and if the upcoming end to the game draught will boost sales significantly. Even if the console is being marketed as a Blu-ray player in certain stores.

This is that PR BS that really hurts the PS. The over cockiness (if thats a word) has a strong tendency to get under people's skin. People love cheering on the underdog. If the PS3 PRs were more humble, I'm sure numbers would be alot higher than what they are now. I could go on and on about this...but I'm sick of talking about it. Basically STFU Sony...bring the games and the consoles will sell period.

Did you even read the source article? Nothing Sony said was inflammatory...he wasn't 'taunting' in his answer at all...if you want to be pissed direct it at Gamespot and Fanboy for framing his answers in that way.

I guess 300+ PSN/Retail games world wide by Mar 08 isn't enough for you right?

Do you have a link to the source article? If so, I wouldn't mind taking a look at it. I'm looking forward to the games just like everyone else. Recently purchased the latest Rainbow Six Las Vegas shooter and hot damn do I love it. But I seriously think you missed my point of my post. Am I pissed off...naw. Am I tired of Sony's Regional CEOs...hell ya. All the hype all the 4th dimensonal stuff, all the Killzone trailer lies, etc... That is whats making one of the best systems ever made become one of the most hated. From those guys opening their mouths about stuff that is just too far fetched. Maybe Sony's development team can bring out the 4th dimension gaming...who knows. 300+ games? Don't get that confused with Midway's garage releases.
