Sony to publish Quantic Dream game exclusively for PS3

Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios is partnering with game developer Quantic Dream to produce a game exclusively for the PlayStation 3. Quantic Dream have produced games that focus on being true interactive cinematic experiences that allow the player to get emotionally involved. In the past they have developed Fahrenheit (known as Indigo Prophecy in the US).
Quantic Dream are looking forward to utilising the power of the Cell processor in order to create an intense cinematic experience that will be emotionally compelling. The founder of the company, David Cage, stated that they "always believed that "next generation" meant more meaningful content based on players' emotional involvement. To us, PS3 is the only platform that can truly deliver on this promise."
There will be more information about the game later in the year. Presumably it's a bit short notice to show anything at E3 next week, but you never know. Whether this is confirmation that Heavy Rain will be PS3 exclusive or that there is a new game being developed is not clear. We were shown a tech demo for the game at E3 last year so, with an annoncement like this, it sounds like a deal has been setup between Sony and Quantic Dream for another exclusive title, on the back of Heavy Rain's development. We look forward to finding out more.

You lose Alan Wake, you win "Heavy Rain". Good to know I won't be missing out on this game. I was impressed by the tech demo. :)

I hope the exclusive is Heavy Rain...it looked very impressive and it would be nice to have a great next-gen adventure game. Indigo Prophecy was very entertaining so I have high hopes for whatever it is they are creating. Sony needs more exclusives that really show of the power they've been taunting so much since third parties like EA aren't really even making an effort to exploit the ps3's strengths. Proof of that is the crappy audio support in multiplatform games (more so with EA)...
the PS3 is the most technologically advanced console ever in terms of audio capabilities...it is able to play 7.1 PCM uncompressed audio tracks in real time...and still the best we see from third parties is a Dolby Digital 5.1 track right on par with the 360...Sony needs more exclusive to set an example..drive sales and then everyone else will follow...

Yeh it's pretty much Heavy Rain, people have been predicting this for ages, and the Heavy Rain producers like to talk about the ps3 and the cell processor whenever interviewed.

hey, prospective next-gen console buyer, ryano here: it's exclusive if the developers can get it working right?
Fatal Inertia, a once PS3 exclusive, is now a timed 360 exclusive because the developers are having troubles with the PS3 engine. to what end will exclusives just stay exclusive?

Hi ryano,
The problem with Fatal Inertia is that it uses Unreal Engine 3 which, at the moment, is mostly optimized for the 360 thanks to the Gears of War release. Epic will have integrated all of their PS3 tools with Unreal Tournament 3 when it's released for the PS3 later this year. Afterwards PS3 development using UE3 should be much more streamlined.
As far as this exclusive Heavy Rain game? Well the engine is being developed from the ground up for the PS3. Of course, like you say anything can change and exclusives can go away but that's just a "what if" scenario. For now it's an announced PS3 exclusive.

Hey ryano, mccomber here: that's a hypothetical argument that has so far affected one game, and the people who created the engine (unreal 3.0) don't seem to be having any problem with the ps3.
From joystiq: "We next talked to Epic's VP Mark Rein, who thought that the Unreal 3.0 engine was incomplete only in the sense that it's constantly being upgraded. 'Unreal Engine 3.0 is running quite well on PS3 and people will have the chance to see that when we show Unreal Tournament 3 next week.'"
Besides which, Sony is publishing this. I sort of doubt it will be switching platforms.
To me, bringing that up in relation to any other game just sounds like trolling.

I LOVED their last game!!! So did my girl, because of the story and way it was told. Can't wait!!! The tech demo they did last year blew me away!!!

I simply loved Indigo prophecy (Fahrenheit in Europe). In my opinion it is an engulfing experience, i couldn't stop playing the game as i wanted to know how the very cinematic and compelling story would unravel. And now, with a very impressive tech demo from Heavy rain, I think we can truly expect great things from Quantic dreams. If i wouldn't have owned a Playstation 3 already, the fact that Quantic dreams is developing exclusives for this console would compel me to buy it.

You think this should be talked about? Why? I mean, do you understand WHY the dev had problems? Do you really know anything about the hardware profile of the PS3, or HOW the game is being produced? Do you understand what Middleware is, or do you think that the PS3 just can't handle it? You are very very vague in your assumptions and do nothing besides repeating every little thing you hear from the bashers.

=o your really not THIS stupid, are you?? I mean, you can write and read, so, you can't be as dumb as this makes you sound... Here, let me explain this to you: If a developer - the people who actually make the game by typing in long complex strands of formulae combined with words and numbers that a computer's "brain" can understand (called: A Computer Programming Language, or more simply, code) - cannot get a game to actually work, NO MATTER WHAT CONSOLE, can never ever (and I mean NEVER) have said game to be an EXCLUSIVE. It would be said to be VAPORWARE. So, has something like this ever happened to a single system? Yes - ALL THE FUCKING TIME ON THE P-FUCKIN-C (aka: Personal (FUCKING) Computer), since the before you were obviously born. The fact that it STILL happens on P-FUCKIN-Cs means that perhaps a Falcon Northwest or Alienware type system RUNNING DIRECTX isn't good enough to buy either. You want my point? here it is: As long as programmers (people who write the "computer-code" make mistakes, there will always be titles that fail to show up on one system or another. It's a fact of life.
Now to what you obviously meant ~ the PS3 can't handle 720p games like Fatal Inertia because it doesn't have the horsepower... you're joking, right? I mean, you'd compare a 32bit single core intel cpu with a 64bit multi-core powerpc based cpu, and say that the former is FASTER than the LATTER??? =D You're joking, right? =o oh... i forgot - you don't know wtf i'm talking about... well, i can't dumb it down for you (i don't know how to go that low) but, i got something else you might be able to understand...
32 is less than 64. So it is not as good. 64 is much better. Multi-core is much better than single-core because multi means more than one and single means one. Intel and IBM are both big companies. IBM makes great big computers. Intel makes smaller ones for your desk and lap. Big is greater than small. So, is big better? Maybe. It depends what you want it to do, like not melting the solder down. Like the 360... sorry, i tried being more simple than that, but it hurt my brain =S
Here's another fact of life: Developers do not always tell the truth to their publishers or the public. Koei should've announced that they were going exclusive with the X360 with this game until the engine was completed. I believe that the engine not being near ready is why Koei did this. But you can believe what you want. I believe that the tools used to make games are easier on MS side, since that is their trade. Sony's tools may be a little rough around the edges and that's why the devs complain. Who knows? It's only speculation. Like your entire train of thought and factbase.
REMEMBER KIDDIES: 5 year old hardware with a new graphics chip does not make a 'fast' machine. Even at 60fps. It's a little more complex than that.

Consolcwby you are not completely correct. the Xbox 360 has a Xenon type PowerPC type CPU that has 3 PPE cores. (PowerPC Processing Element. in other words general purpose processing units). while the Playstation 3 CPU, the Cell, has only one PPE core with 7 SPEs (Synergistic Processing Elements) which are more specialized hardware designed to execute certain types of code.You are also wrong in regards to the 64 bit business, both the xbox 360 and the playstation 3 support full64-bit PowerPC ISA (instruction set architecture). And on a side note, notice how i am nice in pointing out where you were wrong, i didn't swear, and i did not call you any names, unlike yourself.

t1suka: Thank you for pointing out some inaccuracies in my post. But when it comes to language, please don't. You may find me going into a right hateful rant here, because of how sick and tired I was at constantly reading out and out inaccurate info being promulgated by fans on all sides (which is rather ironic). On many sites I have defended the X360, PS3, and the Wii - constantly - from the mantric babblings of the fanbois. But, this time, I just couldn't take it anymore. It actually made me lose my cool. (Professionally, I work with outsourced tech support engineers from India, Pakistan, and the backwaters of Eastern Europe on a constant basis without ever losing my cool, so this is quite a feat for any post). The info I use for the X360s is from a coworker who has a heavilly modded 360 at home. I myself, I only recently bought a PS3 and currently enjoy it as much as my PS2, XBox, PSOne, dreamcast, genesis, NES, Atari 2600, and Colecovision. So, next time, I'll try not to get like this... Sorry.

He forgot to say "take it to the next level" in his sales spew.
I don't want/need emotional involvement in my video games. I want action. I want to kill things/people. I want to blow stuff up. I want to be able to talk with people online while I'm blowing stuff up or pumping hot digital lead into them. I want digital scantily clad buxom bimbettes with bouncy bottoms and jiggly jugs swaying to and fro when they walk/run and lots of them. This are the things video games are made of. It's not rocket science.

you sound like a very intelligent guy, i didn't mind the language much, and i must agree, some people are so misinformed and make such stupid statements that its insane. i mean i am a 16 year old kid and I'm just amazed how stupid people can be, talking about things they don't have a clue about!
