Warhawk gets an official retail price, package
This is another one of those times where we were right, but feel sort of bad about it. We surmised the retail version of Warhawk would cost the same as any other PS3 title because of the inclusion of extra features and a wireless "headset" and turns out that's exactly the case, according to EBGames/Gamestop's website. The retail version is going to sell for $59.99 in the US. After telling us your impressions from the beta, would you drop sixty big ones for a decent headset and some extra features? We are glad the included headset is a small earpiece. We're glad it's bluetooth and we're glad it's wireless (USB cable included for charging). The headset is from Jabra, a fairly well-known manufacturer of fairly decent-quality headsets. Our verdict? If you don't have a wireless headset, buy the retail version. If you've already got one, just download the game. That way, everybody is getting a pretty good deal. Agreed?

sadly, i wasnt included in the beta...so i dont know. but i'll be copping retail...cuz i like how PS3 game boxes look.
David @ Jul 3rd 2007 12:16PM
not that bad...the first Socom was exactly that same price since it included the ps2's headset...and it was considered a good deal...
I think exactly as Nick..if you already have a headset skip it if you don't then go retail...I would buy the retail version even more if I could use that headset with my cell phone...

Anonymous Gamer @ Jul 3rd 2007 12:26PM

whackMushrooms @ Jul 3rd 2007 12:33PM

Naaiif @ Jul 3rd 2007 12:37PM
Can you install the store version onto your ps3? So it's like you downloaded it but you get all that extra content as well when you slap in the disk.
Matt B @ Jul 3rd 2007 12:54PM
I have a headset and will be downloading it from the PSN.
Magus @ Jul 3rd 2007 2:25PM
Uh... Jabra makes horrible headsets, fyi.

Excellent deal.

I have that exact Jabra Bluetooth headset. It is the cheapest, least reliable plastic piece of junk excuse for a Bluetooth headset I have ever owned. It crackles unless I have my cell phone less than one foot away (defeating the purpose.) It is horribly uncomfortable. There is a big plastic circle that remains pressed against your ear the entire time you are using it. The volume controls are difficult to find with the touch of your hand. When you try to pair it you have to press the button which also happens to be the indicator so you can't tell if its flashing to pair or flashing to shut off. Your people have trouble hearing you when you use it. It is prone to catch heavy wind distortion so if you have a small fan forget it, the charger is non standard USB-Mini-A.....AAANNNNDD the maximum volume is very low and even at that point the internal speaker gets very tinny. I found it for $10 and I feel robbed.

I played my friends beta and enjoyed it, I don't have a headset yet so I might get this in a retail store. It's an option.
kingofwale @ Jul 3rd 2007 1:32PM
I'm still pissed I wasn't included as a part of the Beta tester.
Not too happy it's a FULL PRICED game.
but the headset's a good touch, but are you telling me you can't put some cool graphic/skin on that thing? Geez.
Nick Kosmides @ Jul 3rd 2007 1:36PM
As a comment to #9, I'm willing to bet that someone tested this headset with the PS3 at its max range since this is a requirement of Sony's while testing the game, and they forced Jabra to make some changes if they were needed.
I would definitely buy the disc version, but wouldn't it have been even sweeter if you bought the disc and also had access to the PSN download for free!!!?
You heard it here, first. Go PS3fanboy.com!
jtedesco33 @ Jul 3rd 2007 1:41PM
I was in the beta and felt as though it would be fun in the only air battles mode. However in the beta you were not given the option to choose that, leaving most matches to be the typical Battlefield Modern Combat style.
The beta was fun but there is no way I would buy this at the store. I will def dl it if they do for sure include the option to only do air to air battles. If I wanted to play a BFMC style game I would just wait for Bad Company.
Andir3.0 @ Jul 3rd 2007 1:37PM
"charger is non standard USB-Mini-A"
You mean like the USB Mini-A that the PS3 uses for it's controllers, the PSP, etc kind of "not standard"?
Andir3.0 @ Jul 3rd 2007 1:39PM
@ #12: "I'm willing to bet that someone tested this headset with the PS3 at its max range since this is a requirement of Sony's while testing the game, and they forced Jabra to make some changes if they were needed."
I'm sure number poster #9 also has a GSM phone famous for causing static in speakers and anything with a coil of wire in it...
DolphGB @ Jul 3rd 2007 1:41PM
Bluetooth headsets generally suck during gameplay.
I've switched to a good quality Logitech USB headset and it's miles better, so I will be going for the download version of Warhawk and foregoing the store version...
a.j. @ Jul 3rd 2007 1:48PM
@16 wrong. all you have to do is enter a dogfight server...there are plenty and they are air only.
Andir3.0 @ Jul 3rd 2007 3:45PM
So don't buy it... It can't be any worse than the plastic headset you get with the 360.
ptuck874 @ Jul 3rd 2007 3:52PM
shoot go to buy.com and get the headset with first time google checkout for 4.91, thats what i got and it works like a charm :)
Andy @ Jul 3rd 2007 3:55PM
You guys have confused me about the headset. I will just have to wait and see what reviewers say about the headset.
Andy @ Jul 3rd 2007 3:58PM
Any other cheap headset alternatives?
a.j. @ Jul 3rd 2007 4:23PM
Sorry, my last comment was for 17, not 16...to clarify for anyone wondering, you CAN enter flight only, non ground battles. There are specific lobbies for "Dogfight" game modes and they rock.
a.j. @ Jul 3rd 2007 4:24PM
i'm using a motorola H500, works great, fairly cheap.
oki @ Jul 3rd 2007 9:32PM
i just got into the warhawk beta def worth every penny when it comes out. will go for the retail
bsd107 @ Jul 4th 2007 3:29AM
Here's why I'm buying the download version:
1) I love being able to play demos and PSN games WITHOUT having to get up and insert a disc. If I can buy the downloaded or BD version, why would I get the disc? Having it fully installed on the hard drive will be so much more convenient.
2) The headset is not any special Sony or PS3 branded headset - that might have swung me in favor of the retail...
vickers @ Jul 4th 2007 5:52AM
If anyone, and I mean ANYONE, wants to be able to download the warhawk beta, then its not to late, and if you go here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/518040 then it will show you exactly how to do it and you'll be downloading and playing the warhawk beta without being invited before you know it.
Taylor @ Jul 5th 2007 2:49AM
i think i might buy the game for the headset. i rly dont want to go out and buy a f*king xpensive blutooth headset. evn tho the beta was far less than i expected and i dont expect much out of the game i might still buy it just for the things included
