Metal Gear Solid 4: PS3 exclusive, like it always was

At Sony's conference, a lot of games were spotlighted. We mean a lot. While we'd love to go over the 15 first party exclusives, you all know them already, we're sure. So, we're going to move along and debunk the most annoying rumor we've had to put up with for the past year. Metal Gear Solid 4 was announced as a PlayStation 3 exclusive during the conference, met with a loving nod by our favorite Hideo Kojima (we know about twenty, but this one is our favorite). Hopefully this dispels rumors completely. Set for an early 2008 simultaneous worldwide release, MGS4 has come along nicely and has a new trailer up on the PS Store, as you may know. Well, get ready to hear all the "timed exclusive" rumors now, which we're a little more ready to agree to. But not happy about.

And how! I am so pysched to be a PS3 owner. For a while I was afraid I was going to be left a dry with a fancy Blu-ray player, but now things are truly looking up.

@ WhackMushroom -- saw me on G4? I didn't know they were filming in my apartment =P In any case, trust me, this seems to be for real. I'm not ruling out a timed exclusive, but it's definitely exclusive until April 2008.

Xbox fanboy just got a invite to a Konami's Press Briefing, saying that they will get news of something they didn't expect... If its MGS4, Konami just lied to alot of people...

Maybe a new Silent hill? Wait WTF... why is the 360 getting another exclusive??!?!??!?!?!??!

I still dont see why people are upset about timed exclusives. Developers get to lead on their favorite platform, and consumers get to game on theirs. a win-win situtation if you ask me. I dont think the fanboys on either side were upset that RainbowSix, Oblivion, or VF5 were timed exclusives, so why is solid snake so different?

Could be, I felt at the time that he said it 4 times to debunk the prior rumor. However I'm of the thought its Silent Hill 5. I wounder if it will be exclusive or not, and is it just microsoft peeps that got invited? If so its either exclusive, or the 360 is the lead platform. Which isn't a bad thing, but sucks to have ps3 stuck with another half port.

Either or, any new game is good news.

I just hope the 50 mil that M$ spent for exclusive content for GTA IV is worth it because Sony is finally stepping their game up in a major way. If M$ was smarter they would release Halo 3 for the holidays instead of September by thanksgiving H# wont have any more steam and then what will M$ do????

I am a proud 360 owner (as well as a PS2, gamecube, Xbox, PSP, dreamcast,etc...) No PS3 yet. I actually hope this stays a PS3 exclusive. I like the game. I will buy a PS3 when it has at least 4 exclusive titles I want to play. With killzone2, MGS4, Lair, and Heavenly sword, that should do it. Fanboy does not equal dickhead, but from the way some fanboys act on both sides you'd never know it. So from a 360 fanboy to PS3 fanboys, congrats on a good E3, and look forward to killing some of you online in Killzone 2...Peace

again, konami just cant let the rumor die, they are as responsible for the rumors as the fanboys.

they refuse to just 100 percent debunk a 360 version of MGS4, whether that be because its allready in the works, or they dont want to burn any bridges, who knows.

"no plans at this time" is definately not "Bitch this game aint never going to xbox"

Good riddance, one of the most annoying rumours that kept coming up no matter what was said against it. Now we can move on to the "it sucks anyway, that was just a movie at e3" responses, and then the "well, they're going to port FFVIII to the 360" after that.

Then the "well, our console would have sold as many as the ps3 too if..."

Konami's Hideo Kojima never said that Metal Gear Solid 4 would be exclusive to the Playstation 3. In fact, Konami actually indicated otherwise.

The fact is, Sony's speaker, Jack Tretton, put words in the mouth of Hideo Kojima, because before Kojima was introduced, Tretton said that MGS4 is a PS3 exclusive game. Kojima doesn't even speak the english language, and he had an interpreter with him! He never said MGS4 was an exclusive game at E3 2007

It really is a sad thing the way Sony's speaker named Tretton only mentioned a couple exclusive games for the Holiday 2007 shopping, and BOTH of them are going to be on the Xbox 360 in early 2008!

The really bad thing is that Tretton used the word "Exclusive" for Metal Gear Solid 4 in the exact same way he did for Haze and Unreal. That makes me think Metal Gear Solid 4 is only a timed exclusive on PS3.

I don't think that buying a system for timed-exclusive games is worth $500. Especially since the Xbox 360 versions of games are better.

I love Halo, that's why I bought an Xbox 360.

I love Crackdown, and only the Xbox 360 lets me play the complete version with the two extra episodes. That much is common knowledge.

And I love football. Only the Xbox 360 lets me play the three football games this year at 60 frames per second. The PS3 versions only run at 30 frames per second.

I may be a fan of the PS1 and PS2, but I'm not spending $500 for a PS3 system with such poor performing software that won't even have games like Gran Turismo until late 2008. PS3 will probably have dropped another $100 by the. Maybe it will be worth it by then. But definitely not now.

@23: Yeah I caught that too. I knew Meryl was younger but the trailer makes her look 20-30 years younger. And what's up with Liquid and Solid having flowing hair, and hers looks like papier mache?

@24: That's what the previous trailer said. Now we have "Early 2008". It's probably going to be ready for 2007 but maybe Konami is waiting for Halo 3 madness to die down...or they're not finished with it. Just like iD games, they say it'll be done when it's done.

BTW is it just me or was Sony totally unprepared for the PSN Store barrage of downloading? It took me, literally, 4 hours to download the MGS4 trailer which is only ~260 megs. My downstream is 6000Kb.

The reason for that is because Snake is a clone of Big Boss. Clones according to the storyline age at a quicker rate. Thats the reason that from MGS 1 to MGS4 (9 years in the timeline) Snake looks the way he does.

by my count the 360 has just about the same number of exclusives the PS3 does...as in exclusives that will never go multiplatform (Halo, heavanly sword, Gears, Resistance, Ratchet...). IMO MGS4 will eventually see the 360 but for the most part, the large majority of games the consoles share.

Basically a handful of games separate the 360 from the PS3, with that in mind would you pay $399 for a console with a 33% chance of failing, no wifi, no hi def player,...or $499 for a console with all that, free online and a 1% chance of failing?

So, given the opportunity to go back in time knowing what you know now. Would your 360 be "worth it"?

Anybody else p*ssed off that the date's been pushed back to early 2008 even though they promised it a few months ago in late 2007? I am tired of companies talking out of their *sses about game release dates. Just say coming soon, don't put a date or even mention which year its coming out if you can't deliver. MG4 will be awesome, but my heart can't take the deceptive marketing. If you don't know when it will be ready, don't make sh*t up. I can forgive a company for taking too long to make the game perfect, I can't stand a company that breaks empty promises in order to generate hype.

Well, PS3's GTA is an HD Exclusive; It will be in SD for the 360 because they can't fit it in HD because of the 9GB space limit... So "Most of America" will be looking at 576i and p Screens HAHA!
