Rumblaxis coming in September -- Tokyo Game Show
A lot of people were disappointed that Sony's little conference at E3 didn't talk about the upcoming Rumblaxis controller (it's pronounced Rum + Blaxis because that's really the coolest name we could think of), but PS3 Fanboy was not surprised. We've been informed that Immersion has filed for some patents and with it, indirectly filed for the release dates of their new Sony peripheral device that "will now bear Immersion's Feel The Game® TouchSense® Technology logo." When are these peripherals to be released? September. If you're having trouble connecting the dots, the Tokyo Game Show is generally in September. Sony had to save some of its announcements so they could steal the show at TGS, much like we feel they did at E3. So, for those worried, the Rumblaxis is coming in September and you know what? We would expect the announcement at TGS to go something like "hey, we're releasing this Rumblaxis controller we're holding in our hands tomorrow at your favorite retailers. Enjoy!" We can't wait.

Great news! They'll be coming a little bit late though.
GodisaMyth @ Jul 12th 2007 9:23AM
I prefer Shockaxis over Rumblaxis. Remember, rumble is last-gen...new-gen is Touchsense.
Sony did steal the show. Nintendo was OK. Microsoft....baaaaaaaaaaaaad.
TGS should prove interesting. I wonder, will we have a sneak peak at the game that Criterion is developing for PS3? What about FF, Gran Turismo, Team Ico, Getaway, the Rockstar developed western game, LA Noire?
Sony still has many big games to show off.
Popfrogs @ Jul 12th 2007 9:27AM
The games and Home are great, but wtf is up with the lack of XMB announcements? We missed our firmware update last week and I doubt anything is coming today either.
Peter J @ Jul 12th 2007 9:30AM
Hey PS3Fanboy... how about: Name the New |SixaxiS| controller contest? eh?
lenny0487 @ Jul 12th 2007 10:53AM
one things for sure, we will see something FFXIII Related during TGS and possibly more PS3 exclusive games. One question though, would the adopters of the original sixaxis controllers get a free trade or somthing for this, becuase its seems a bit unfair if you know what I mean. Anyway, Im really happy with Sony none the less, they dominated E3
Neil @ Jul 12th 2007 10:06AM
@popfrogs :
Aren't firmware updates generally last thursday of the month? I though this was the general rule..... last week was the 5th July.... significant in the good ol US of A but here in the UK.....it rained !!
Troy @ Jul 12th 2007 10:21AM
So is there any difference between the Rumble in the new ps3 controller and the rumble in other system ccontrollers? or is it the same shit.
SKI @ Jul 12th 2007 10:22AM
Sixaxis + Touchsense = Sixsense.
Bored @ Jul 12th 2007 10:27AM
I bet Sony is really happy about the PS3 sales they're losing from people holding out until September because of this leaked info.
Bored @ Jul 12th 2007 10:28AM
Personally, I always liked DualShake.
irshliquor @ Jul 12th 2007 10:30AM
I'm thinking SenseAxis.
Aex @ Jul 12th 2007 10:45AM
Dude, Sixaxis - Type R
CarNage @ Jul 12th 2007 10:52AM
ARE YOU DAMN CRYBABIES HAPPY!?!!?!??!?!?!?!?!??!?!
you got your freaking rumble back, now you can get off to your favorite video games again! sooo damn annoying.
Tru-blu @ Jul 12th 2007 11:15AM
i like sixaxis touchsense. or just touchsense controller.
Dahk @ Jul 12th 2007 11:22AM
Whats wrong with CarNage?
I'm guessing it has something to do with this! (Sorry I just heard about it, and its quite interesting lol)

Eh calm down dood. Whats wrong with a bit o' news? We're just happy blog readers doing our daily blog reading. Chill.
Hmm I like Rumblaxis actually haha! It sounds cool. And really its coined to show the rumble feature. Most people don't know what touch sense is and sixsense is a movie =P *shruggs* I say we have a poll Nick!
@ lenny. That would be awesome, but you somehow know it won't happen =). Its a business - that's like.. handing in your old computer for the newer version. lol.
Plus it'll take a while before the rumblaxis is incorporated into games... I'm guessing uncharted or heavenly sword could be the first dwellers of this?
OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH THATS WHY MGS4 IS DELAYED UNTIL 2008! =) I'm now satisfied with my excuse of MGS4 delaying haha!
Andir3.0 @ Jul 12th 2007 11:33AM
@Troy: It's different. From the descriptions I read, it appears to be a more location sensitive feedback that also has some sort of control over the analog sticks.
The old "Rumble" was nothing more than little motors with off-balance weights.
GodisaMyth @ Jul 12th 2007 11:34AM
Troy,
Go to immersion.com and you will see the difference.
Shockaxis....now we have the best of both worlds.
UltimateNinja9 @ Jul 12th 2007 11:45AM
It should be called 'KIXAXIS' because it sounds kinda like 'kicks asses' which is exactly what it will do.
navstars @ Jul 12th 2007 12:00PM
So you got Rumble back, but now the new backwards compatibility breaks most of your old PS2 games. YAY!
KiraXD @ Jul 12th 2007 11:46AM
SixaxiS + Touchsense =
SixsensE
im genius.
GodisaMyth @ Jul 12th 2007 11:49AM
"HA losers, playing your crappy first person shooter and crappy off road game who have spent your life savings on a ps3. but just a little late on the rumble feature. WHOOO HALO 3"
$500 is your life savings? Man, you will make a hobo living in a box look like a rich man if that is what you have in mind for life savings.
You can have your Gaylo 3. I will take, Uncharted, Killzone 2, RaC, FF, MGS4,(you cant have it 360) GT5, LBP, NC Soft and so on.
Oh yeah, you can have the RROD too. I will take a reliable console that is future proof.
psn:ummfada @ Jul 12th 2007 12:11PM
Backwards compatibility is completely fixed wanna come to my house and see
...and i like KixaxiS
Dahk @ Jul 12th 2007 12:11PM
"So you got Rumble back, but now the new backwards compatibility breaks most of your old PS2 games. YAY!"
For the last frickin time - 73% of ALL games on an EE-less PS3 since LAST firmware update. Thats MOST of people's damn library save for MGS3 (which... actually sucks).
Neo The Hustler @ Jul 12th 2007 12:49PM
Yeah...ShockAxis is okey, but i've changed it to ... ShoxAxis...i've copyrighted it, Sony if you want the name just pay me $10mil...;p
Brandon @ Jul 12th 2007 1:39PM
The name of the new controller should be....
VIBRATION + SIXAXIS = "VIBRAXIS"
Deathalo @ Jul 12th 2007 2:16PM
Yeah, I actually think KIXAXIS is the best name I've heard so far, it's just fn' awesome. Friends would think it's funny as hell, and I think everyone would get a kick outa it. (pun intended).
GodisaMyth @ Jul 12th 2007 2:27PM
TY manic
I hope it catches on
Shockaxis in September.
LadyD @ Jul 12th 2007 4:07PM
Who wants rumble? Sony says it's so LAST gen.
Adam Pflug @ Jul 12th 2007 5:31PM
So the new SKU comes out in August, the sixaxis /w rumble (anyone else hope that they change up the shape some to make it more modern?) comes out in September... Pretty much another nail in the coffin for the rumor that the new controller would be in the new SKU right?
jack @ Jul 12th 2007 7:16PM
cool!! imagine when u shoot or get shot in a FPS game u will feel it in ur hand and it depends where u got shot different locations on the new sixaxes controller will vibrate!!
cant wait!!! ps3 will take everything wat x360 build in 2 years in 1 year!!
FM @ Jul 12th 2007 11:17PM
Meh, ShockAxis is a better name imo. But I cant wait for TGS. It's the week of my birthday!
Consolcwby @ Jul 13th 2007 8:33AM
I knew Sony would wait for TGS - it just made sense. BTW, I'm betting they'll call it something original, like the Dual Shock 3, or Dual Shock 3D...
erocstangs @ Jul 16th 2007 4:18PM
I bet all the PS3 games have vibration built in to them (even the one's already out) and a firmware update will unlock it. The reason we didn't have it earlier is because Sony was being sued over the rumble controllers. See article below. Sony was always going to release a rumble with the PS3 but they could not due to pending litigation.
