Framerates look fast and everything looks very smooth overall. Nice
qwerter @ Jul 14th 2007 8:49PM
looks pretty darn good 2 questions though, is this in pre alpha stage or after? and also will there be a cover system on it cause on the second trailer i saw some type of a cover system
lenny0487 @ Jul 14th 2007 8:52PM
@2
this is pre-pre alpha stage acording to the Guerilla Devs.
lenny0487 @ Jul 14th 2007 8:54PM
i think we will still not be able to jump in killzone 2, but I guess the cover system they have in place for the game makes up for it, unless they will allow to jump if thats in place.
Vincent060 @ Jul 14th 2007 8:57PM
Man, everytime I see footage of this game, I keep thinking, "this has got to still be CGI." This game looks sweet.
Toby @ Jul 14th 2007 9:02PM
I read thru some stuff on the PS forums and there WILL be a cover system.
drdre74 @ Jul 15th 2007 4:33PM
whooooooaaa this is PS3'S answer to Gears if you ask me. This looks great and I'm not even a big FPS fan.
Jldowning @ Jul 14th 2007 9:07PM
On a side note, I hear alot of Xbots, screaming that Killzone One sucked, so I bought it, and I like it! After I finish it, i'll do Liberation for the story.
Bax @ Jul 14th 2007 9:11PM
Killzone 1 was a good FPS. The problem was the game had too much hype and was labeled a "Halo Killer". When it wasn't the greatest game ever everyone bashed it. Funny how history repeats itself.
Chocolate Moose @ Jul 15th 2007 1:39AM
That looked pretty good, but there were some texture issues on some of the walls. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but that explosion at the end looked like shit. They'll probably fix that before they ship, but come on. Honestly, I own a 360 and don't own a Ps3,and I have been extremely lucky with my 360 not breaking. I've been extremely interested in what the Ps3 can do, and I'm finally seeing something very promising. I hope they don't screw this up. I'm still waiting for something to blow my mind like GoW did.
BestOfBothWorlds @ Jul 14th 2007 9:33PM
For AI thats suppose to still see well in the dark they sure are stupid but since its pre alpha i need not worry. but that switch thing aint that bad slow but not bad. I cant wait! soon it will be as good, if not better than the CG footage. Please dont compare this game to Halo3 its not worth the war! 2 different gameplays besides the shooting, and they're not going against religious aliens.there going against....... either buy the first one and get over the flaws or by K2. i think sony should release the first killzone again in the PSN store but without the terrible frame rate, the terrible switching from high definition to low definition images and the ability to turn off the annoying helghast screams.
ToXicDecree @ Jul 14th 2007 9:50PM
THIS GAME LOOKS AWESOME!!!
Titty Pink @ Jul 14th 2007 10:53PM
Can't compare to H3, but we CAN compare it to Resistance (which I thought was f'ing SWEET). If this is an alpha build, whoa nelly! Seems like I've settled for R6 Vegas and having not played COD or The Darkness dudes seem to have settled for those as well. This looks like it will finally give us a title to rival the king (Resistance). Look out guys and gals, we could have ourselves a killer on our hands, and Resistance killer...
Jldowning @ Jul 15th 2007 12:18AM
I hear alot of people say CoD 4 looks better, and I just watched both Trailers on my HD tv. And all I can say, is for visuals, if you think CoD4 looks better, your prob just a xbot in denial.
If you have to pause the screen and zoom in the find a flaw, and then claim it to be "Worse then X because of said flaw" then you need a life.
Also as for the Fire, yeah it didn't look great right now, but tell me the physics of it didn't look cool! ;)
Either way, yes there are better visual games on their way, but I don't feel like dropping 2k on a PC rig to play em. However as for Consoles, if you don't think this is the best, or at least damned close, you are not looking with an objective eye.
Could you say the same about me? Maybe, however I own both systems, and enjoy both, Killzone could have failed for all I care, and I still would get to play every exclusive out there.
Jimmy @ Jul 15th 2007 1:55AM
looks good. but i swear, if he presses that damn button one more time....
DxG @ Jul 15th 2007 3:25AM
yay he actually melee'd. i was hoping there would be a melee attack.
ryano @ Jul 15th 2007 2:20AM
very detailed models thus far, but they really need to bump those textures up.
good lord i hope this level is taken out of the final build. pressing that button over and over to open the lightening rod armor does not look very fun.
they really need to bump their visual effects as well. those cheese puff explosions will not do.
on a side note i think it's interesting that the poster boy of Killzone has always been the enemy, the Helghast whereas other shooters like Halo, Metroid, Splinter Cell, Haze, MGS and Duke Nuke em are most always associated with the main hero.
then again i'd choose the Helghast to promote Killzone any day rather than the constipated Rico lol!
Saleen 73 @ Jul 15th 2007 2:24AM
Looks good alot better physics then gears and great animation but i remember seeing gear in the alpha stage and being more impressed with that in the graphics department.(gonna take a lot to change my mind on that), its defenatly one pretty "ulgy" game i.e. GOW with all the post prossing effects that are in it, but I,m more partial to prettier games like Halo and Final Fantasy cause it dosent seem like the game is washed out too me.
Thomas @ Jul 15th 2007 2:28AM
I paid 600 dollars for this level of game design... and still this is just the tip of the iceberg for PS3 games, and their level of graphics...
John @ Jul 15th 2007 4:53AM
Meh...Dont really see it killing Halo. Looks fun but still...not the halo killer. I as an owner of all 3 consoles who loves all of them thinks it will be fun...but halo will still be better. But who knows maybe i could be wrong.
hoffer @ Jul 15th 2007 3:41AM
That video looks good, but it doesn't look like the next coming of the FPS. I'm sure I'll buy the game, but I don't see how that lives up to the hype.
Sean @ Jul 15th 2007 4:30AM
Animation, textures, blood effects, and physics looked great... but some of the textures were muddy and nasty
qwerter @ Jul 15th 2007 6:30AM
remember this video is in pre alpha so they r still working on this, so it means the final version is gonna look much better than this
Ian @ Jul 15th 2007 7:13AM
I'm ready and waiting with my £50 for this game. Whilst the single player footage looks amazing, I'm really looking forward to the on-line action, Capture the flag and Deathmatch!
Aaron @ Jul 15th 2007 7:26AM
How can you even compare killzone 2 to halo 3. When both games have:
1) Different Play Style, game Flow / Mechanics.
2) Completely different art direction.
3) Size and Scale of battles....
...Halo 3 will feature dense battles with lots of enemy / freindly NPC's onscreen battling each other .And will also feature four player coop campaign.
Killzone 2 Battles are small scale in comparisonto Halo 3's Battles. And will possibly feature 2 player coop campaign.
John @ Jul 15th 2007 7:46AM
I was going by how fun each game will be (judging from what i have seen)
Ty @ Jul 15th 2007 8:26AM
@28].
Exactly how DO you know how fun each will be when you can't even play it yet?
I guess some people are never content - there always has to be SOMETHING wrong.
ryano @ Jul 15th 2007 10:43AM
hmmm...
Halo 3 and Killzone 2 are totally different and each attracts a totally different crowd. i know X3fanboys who would love to get their hands on a more gritty darker, mature and moody FPS like Killzone. i know PS3fanboys who would love large scale battles with comical chatter from the npcs and enemies like Halo 3.
the fact that Halo 3 is 4 player Co-Op sorta enhances that party feel. if Killzone 2 were more than 2 players i think it would kill the mood of a few good men vs. a greater power.
to cease and desist this Halo 3 vs. Killzone 2 nonsense, it really all comes down to preference.
based off playing past Halos and Killzone 1 and from what i've seen from the e3 vids: IMHO Halo 3 "looks" to be a more enjoyable experience. it feels like a roller coaster ride that i will have quite a fun time trying to beat on Legendary setting with 3 of my buddies.
i didn't like Gears of War because it was too dark and depressing although it looks fantastic graphically. i feel the same for Killzone 2. it's artstyle and gameplay are too serious for my tastes.
Mike @ Jul 15th 2007 11:39AM
Can't say I own a ps3 yet, but the killzone is starting to perk my interest. If Sony can get some more exclusives, they may finally win me over!
(that is, after they lower the price to $399...since my job doesn't pay overtime =p)
derrickgott007 @ Jul 15th 2007 11:40AM
Wow, this is now a must buy for me...The frame rate alone on this is amazing.
nathan @ Jul 15th 2007 11:55AM
the reason why everyone compares this game to halo is because killzone 1 was touted as a halo killer. When it wasnt people tried to dismiss the comparisons. These two games are completely different in style and gameplay, but they will continue to be compared because they are two consoles "flagship" titles.
Popfrogs @ Jul 15th 2007 11:59AM
While this game looks pretty damn great in such an early build, I want to see what the Insomniac guys are doing for a Resistance followup.
mccomber @ Jul 15th 2007 12:16PM
This just looks fantastic, but hopefully they make it so that you only have to press that bloody button once. I don't think that anyone who is still completely negative on this game would be happy unless the enemies came in primary colors and the main characters initials were MC.
I enjoyed the first KZ. I thought the psp title was great. And this game looks like it will just blow away both of those, and deliver on what they were trying to do with the first title. BTW, don't know if it's on gametrailers, but the extended trailer from IGN is fantastic, a whole lot of in-game gunplay:
http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/748/748475/vids_1.html
Vincent060 @ Jul 15th 2007 12:28PM
Who was playing that level? It didn't even look like he needed to press the button as often as he did. Still looked impressive.
Andy @ Jul 15th 2007 12:38PM
"this is pre-pre alpha stage acording to the Guerilla Devs."
What does that mean?
How can you guys already talk about framerates? Don't this video codecs only go up to 30 FPS.
Why do framerates matter...can you actually tell?
Andy @ Jul 15th 2007 12:45PM
I just thought of a really great way to reward people who only own a PS3.
A day after Halo 3 comes out have a beta signup for Killzone 2. That way you avoid the people that love their 360 and don't ever play their PS3. Reward those who are most loyal. This probably won't fly on this site since most people own both consoles but it would be fair.
Darko @ Jul 15th 2007 12:53PM
@37
If the frame rate drops below 30 it becomes noticeable. Motions become choppy and it can be frustrating. Anything above 60fps is waste, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. The reason people care about the average fps is because you will get scenes where there is a lot going on the frame rate will dip, if your average fps is 30 you're going to see some stuttering. If its 60 you're probably fine.
As for pre alpha, alpha, and beta its just referring to the stage they are at in development.
In general with development it goes pre alpha, alpha, beta, RC1, RC2, RC#, Gold. Pre-alpha is generally not feature complete.

oyeps3 @ Jul 15th 2007 8:10PM
Gears of War is great looking game and will always be a great looking game. but stop comparing, open ur eyes it almost 2008 it doesnt look better than killzone 2. how can anyone say killzone 2's graphics, physics, gameplay etc didn't live up to the hyped E3 05 trailer. my eyes have never seen a game with this much detail, com'om 2 GIGs on one level this is some serious sh#$. guerrilla learned from their mistakes in killzone 1 and their aiming to 2 win alot of fps fans out there. this game will make history along side mgs4 ,FF13 and future installments of the God of War series GRAN TURISMO in an extremly powerfull system. o and (mass effect on the 360) is also showings things never seen before in a game. great games coming out but in the long run ps3 will have if not all of them then most of em.
BTitty @ Jul 16th 2007 1:09AM
I just saw a post at IGN and thought I'd throw the idea over into this thread. The reason we(fanboys of whatever system) want and need exclusives is that it increases competition in the gaming market place. If everything went multiplatform what would be the purpose of trying hard for all systems. So flagship titles need to be great for system sales and to keep the market balanced and Killzone is working its way their. If Sony lets the game crap out then they are newbs ;)
Lp47 @ Jul 16th 2007 3:11AM
2 words. Looks amazing.
