Why are these screen shots of such low quality? It makes the game look like forza 2.
Surtur @ Jul 15th 2007 2:57PM
A question I haven't been able to find the answer for: Will GT5 have damage?
Brian @ Jul 15th 2007 3:12PM
It's because the quality of the cars are actually not that good. Forza 2 looks better than this. These almost look like GT4 screenshots. Not much of an improvement really. Odd enough, they never show IN GAME while racing shots. They are always replay, photo and cut scene.
Funny how they told us we would have 20 cars on the track at great quality, and now we only get 8 cars and good quality.

"if any developer can make a game look that good, it's certainly Polyphony Digital"
That's not confirmation from Sony, that's speculation.
Sorry but there's still large bits of that trailer that look pre-rendered to me... particularly the introductory part of the trailer with the camera pans and fades between different tracks. I doubt any console would do that in real-time. Yes, the bits that look like bog-standard tracks with very little off-track detail are in game, and static models of London streets too (already done in PGR and The Getway) - and to be honest, those bits aren't too impressive. They're exactly what you'd expect from any racer on any platform, particularly from a company who's been apparently sitting around doing Sweet F.A. for so long.
Colour me unimpressed - even the GT:HD download was extremely disappointing... mind you, all racing game trailers seem to be predominantly pre-rendered (I'm looking at you PGR4...)

hey... new content on psn

To be fair, I saw the trailer from the Sony pres conference and it looks way better than these stils when in motion.
Plus these stills aren't full resolution. The simple fact that you can't read the words along the bottom shows that they've been shrunk from their original form. That's know way to know how many jaggies that inroduced.
What I saw looked looked like the best racer I've ever sen.
ck @ Jul 15th 2007 3:32PM
Moe: Those screenshots have been scaled by a moron using Paint or something.
Check out the shots at http://ps3.qj.net/Gran-Turismo-5-Prologue-s-drool-inducing-screenshots/pg/49/aid/97290
From the popup, use the open in new window button to get the full size. Crap? I think not.
You doubters are going to have to STFU when this is released. Polyphony know what they're doing.
psn:ummfada @ Jul 15th 2007 3:33PM
So go play those games and stop bitching
ck @ Jul 15th 2007 3:33PM
Er, Damn it - that comment was for #3, Brian.
Andy @ Jul 15th 2007 3:35PM
"Why are these screen shots of such low quality? It makes the game look like forza 2."
No. The only the game that makes me want a Xbox 360 is Forza 2.
I thought GT:HD is one of the best looking games on my 23inch tv. These screen shots are horrible.
Just look at the difference between these two screens.

ck: Wow those are much better
Popfrogs @ Jul 15th 2007 3:58PM
Wow, what shamefully scaled screenshots you guys have posted here. Don't give the Xbox trolltards any ammunition, post the real hd shots like the replies have listed.
Burnt Meatloaf @ Jul 15th 2007 4:09PM
The track shots look awesome, but the showcase shots are pretty terrible. Lighting makes all the difference. If they added some spot lighting it would look much better.
I got a chance to try the HD demo though, and I was really disappointed to see that the physics feel almost identical to GT3 -- sluggish and slippery. I know what a car should feel like, and this isn't it.
P @ Jul 15th 2007 4:43PM
I think anyone thats played the free GT:HD demo knows what to expect as those screenshots are simply a disgrace, it would have been far better to have sourced the originals and resized those instead of using those badly converted pics (it looks like when you have large image open in IE/FF whatever and its been scaled down by the browser, where it looks terrible and basically removes lines of pixels rather than any intellegent scaling being done.)
The demo looks stunning, so if they took the game no further visually and the rest was content then pretty much everyone will be very happy with GT5P i think.
Someone mentioned damage, i dont think anything has been said for Prologue (i'd say none) but GT5 final is supposed to have some form of damage (cant remember if its been said officially if its visual, mechanical or both)
When i saw the PGR4 trailer you can see straight away how far behind they are, as IMO they still dont look real, they always look like fake cars in a nice enviroment, Gran Turismo even from very early has always done a great job of looking and feeling real, particularly this current version its like everything your seeing is real (not quite 100% picture perfect, but close) and PGR4 the car and surroundings just dont feel like they're true, its like its a generation behind.
Still, when you take the original Gran Turismo game from the PS1, GT2 and GT3 from the PS2 and eventually GT5 for the PS3 and consider thats about 13 years of work put into the development its no suprise that PGR with its 6-ish years already rushing out a 4th version its no wonder it looks the way it does, not enough time & care put into getting something done right, just make it shiney and stick it on the shelves.
Brian @ Jul 15th 2007 4:54PM
PGR4 behind!? Yeah, ok. So why does it look better than GT5 prologue trailer?
warpser @ Jul 15th 2007 5:54PM
Here is the Trailer (very close to 1080p, i think).
It's the highest res version i've been able to find for free.
I took this video, converted it, and put it on my playstation 3.... wow... It looks awesome.

Forza 2 cars aren't that great... and the race tracks are kinda.. uh.... boring.
warpser @ Jul 15th 2007 6:00PM
Uh, I tried the link to the Hi Res version... Doesn't work anymore... (and it's actually 720p)
To get the hi res video:
Click on the link i previously posted, then click on the first link listed within the forums first post.
It's in a different language, but scroll a little down from the video player, and you should see "720p". Just look at the far right of that line and there should be a link download.

Definitely can't wait for this game to be released. Every addition to the Gran Turismo Series have always been hotly anticipated and have always been criticized for taking too long to be released. At the end, it has always made followers of the series happy.
I have Forza 2 to hold me over till this game is released. While forza 2 is pretty good, I was actually expecting more graphically. I'm not saying it doesn't look good, but if GT:HD is what Forza 2 will be compared to graphically, then I could honestly say the cars look way better in GT:HD. Everything else about Forza 2 is pretty good though.
linton @ Jul 15th 2007 9:01PM
To be honest game trailers should be exactly waht they should be ie 'actual game footage'not pre rendered scenes!

Here is the link to the interview I had with a GT Developer......
http://playstation.joystiq.com/2007/04/20/gran-turismo-5-confirmed-to-have-no-damage-to-vehicles/
We say confirmed with a question mark because the debate is still up in the air, but apparently there was a little scuffle between a group of message board visitors and a Gran Turismo development staff member regaring the issue of damage to the licensed cars. The staff member worked on Gran Turismo HD and is hard at work on Gran Turismo 5, which is awesome. But here are a few quotes from the guy worth scratching our chins over:
* "...We're not ready to implement damage until they can be shown in a truly authentic way (which is extremely hard work if you think about it)."
* Damage in Gran Turismo would make the franchise unstoppable, don't you think? He responds: "No I mean, really, really, really hard work... to the extent of creating another game, almost. From our standards, what other games are doing is "simplified damage". You know how [anal] we are when making our games... we would want to simulate every single dent differently."
Not sure why they bleeped out anal -- it's a perfectly appropriate word, because Polyphony Digital really does get down to the most painstaking detail when crafting these games. So what's this sound like to you? The staff member who said this checks out. He's completely legit (but we can't reveal the obvious). We're saying there won't be damage this time. Maybe for GT5 A-Spec or something. I dunno. I won't mind. Besides, you're not supposed to crash in the driving sim games.
[Thanks, derrickgott007!]
Broken Haiku @ Jul 16th 2007 4:57AM
Those screenshots are really awful, who hired a 5 year old to convert and ruin them? Come on guys, you can do better.
Lp47 @ Jul 16th 2007 2:38PM
It's real baby.

derrickgott007:
"...From our standards, what other games are doing is "simplified damage". You know how [anal] we are when making our games... we would want to simulate every single dent differently."
Its those sort of comments that seem rather stupid to me, when they released GT(1) they released it despite it not looking photo-realistic, it didnt look real but it wasnt enough to stop them launching it and it becoming a huge success, so to say they're not going to implement a huge part of motor racing into a racing sim just seems stupid. If something is physically impossible to replicate then okay fair enough, but to say that they'd only do damage if they could replicate it perfectly is IMO the new 'The automotive industry dont want to see their cars damaged' excuse, another generation passes and another excuse is made to not implement what is probably the final peice of the jigsaw, from the stuff mentioned to be included in GT5 final it seems like its the only thing it will miss, its just crazy and very disappointing. The intention is never to crash, but the consequence of doing so is a big reason for not doing so, and if you accidently wallop a wall you dont become all noble and morally correct and quit the race you carry on and mumble f*ck it and carry on racing.
