Final Fantasy Versus XIII less than 2% complete
Hope you're holding your breath for the upcoming PS3 Final Fantasy games. The status of Final Fantasy XIII and its Versus variant were revealed today, and get ready for a shocker: Versus XIII stands as only 1.3% completed. When will this game come out? 2012?
Thankfully, Final Fantasy XIII is faring a little bit better, but not to our satisfaction. The hotly anticipated RPG is only 13% complete, a tenfold improvement over its Versus brethren.
Considering how slowly these projects are moving, we're unlikely to see anything playable at Tokyo Game Show later this year. Well, we can hope for a new trailer at the very least, no?

It's obviously a joke by Square. 13% and 1.3%? Really?

Final Fantasy XIII. You seriously can't ask a dev "How far a long are you?", and expect a legitimate numerical response.
colin @ Jul 17th 2007 11:45PM
that's kinda like my version of FFX
xavier @ Jul 17th 2007 11:54PM
this is bullshit i read a scan that said ff13 was 80% complete. it was confirmed by the producer. how is it 13% now???
xavier @ Jul 17th 2007 11:59PM

proof that it is more than 80% done because this magazine scan was out since the new year

FF13 will be releasing next year (April or May in JDM).. they are in no rush. They are making plenty of money of remakes and FF12 spin-offs.. they also want to make FF13 last 10+ years, so a few extra months to release the flagship wont matter in the long run.
Tyler @ Jul 18th 2007 12:24AM
What's the source for the 13%?
lordroba @ Jul 18th 2007 12:26AM
If my memory serves me correctly, FFXIII was originally being developed for the PS2 even before FFXII was completed. Then when the PS3 came out SquareEnix decided to jump platforms and change the engine, but i'm sure other elements such as enemies, item systems and story were already well along their way by then. So 80% does seem like a more believable number.

Agree with Vicious-chan, it's a marketing scam aimed at whipping up a little forum flame debate - It looks to be working!
I'd put money on it coming out before summer 08.
Popfrogs @ Jul 18th 2007 12:57AM
The numbers are too coincidental. I just don't understand why Squeenix would say something like this. As if we're not all tired of delays and late games by now.
Then again it's not like they have any competition. They pretty much own the RPG genre.
Consolcwby @ Jul 18th 2007 1:14AM
@Andrew: Have you been smoking something lately? Come on, dude - something like this needs sources! So you expect us to believe that FF13 has 1 and 3 repeated numbers for percentages done? Not only that, but for the last week or two you've been hating hard on some of the most anticipated games coming out for the PS3! How can you expect anyone to take you seriously anymore? If these figures are to be believed, then show us the money! (proof) or else STFU, quit and let someone else start blogging here. I mean, even I could lie better than this! }=[ Yur startin ta make me mad...
BTW: When are we going to see your 'hands-on' review for these games? I know you'll be saying how much they suck anyhow, but I'm just curious.

The source is the IGN article under the ‘Read’ link, dimwits.
That said, anyone who thinks that developers can indicate the progress of a project in tenths of percents should have his head checked. Bad joke by Square Enix.
upz @ Jul 18th 2007 2:12AM
How is anyone even debating the possibilty that the 13% and 1.3% are true when Vicious pretty much proved it was a joke in the first post?
Developers almost always give rough estimates of completion to the nearest 10%. Being able to nail down a completion estimate to the tenth of a percentage point would be one hell of a hoodoo magic trick.

@4 Thanks bud, I was an inch away from breaking my computer. I'm dieing for some quality RPGs...not any BS like Folklore (but I'll still buy it). I need my fantasy RPG fix bad...brotha man is gettin the shakes over here.

Man, do I feel like my head's a rectal thermometer! I got so ticked off about clicking that link and not seeing anything, that I forgot about the browser issues here at work!... and that's when I became an asshole... sorry Andrew. Please forgive me, and I'll let you borrow my Keiko Kamen collection... i promise! ='(
FORGIVE ME!!!!!
Charles Geeba @ Jul 18th 2007 1:49PM
yeah guys but don't worry ITS A 10 YEAR SYSTEM!
Michael K. @ Jul 18th 2007 1:12PM
it would have been shorter to just saw 1.3% complete instead of saying "less than 2% complete"
derrickgott007 @ Jul 18th 2007 4:32PM
Who cares if this game is 2% or 80%....I don't like FF and never have, so all this hoopla is BORING. There are more games out there other than RPG's you 12 sided dice rolling basement dwellers!
Psy @ Jul 19th 2007 12:26AM
@derrickgott007
I can understand if you don't like RPGs, but to actually ask "who cares" about Final Fantasy is one of the stupidest remarks I've ever heard.
Stevan @ Sep 28th 2007 5:28PM
I have to agree with Psy if you dare say who cares about FF then I think you stepped into the wrong forum buddy... I just had a debate with my friend at school who has an Xbox 360 and just got halo 3, and he wouldn't stop hating on Final Fantasy and Devil May Cry saying how they suck and no true gamer would play them so me and 2 other FFXIII fans turned on 3 computers in the lab and played the HD Trailers and Teaser for FFXIII, FFversusXIII and Halo 3, with Halo 3 in the middle and FFXIII on the left and FFversusXIII on the right and after that little comparison he shut right up with his crap. 360 may have more titles, but PS3 has better quality games, and more worth while games. Not just Halo, and Gears of War that make one system bearly hang on to live.
