Rumor: firmware 1.90 features customized soundtracks?

Second, the "Adjust Screen Settings" doesn't ring any bells. Could there be resolution-switching on-the-go now, instead of exiting the game back to the XMB? What happened to the assigning of memory card slots? Perhaps these features are specific to what era of PlayStation game you play? As in, slot assignments appear only if a PS One or PS2 game are present?
This is all conjecture, of course, since the picture hasn't been proven real. Some people do have a lot of time on their hands and really enjoy Photoshop, but to mock a picture of bright, blurry text? It's a tough call, since it has been a while for a firmware update. What do you guys think? Is this for real or for bogus?
[Thanks, SpiderMikey!]

Itlooks i hope it not because i really want to listen to some music while playing games.
bombos @ Jul 20th 2007 12:30PM
Could be Warhawk - first title to support custom music tracks.
ShadowBlade @ Jul 20th 2007 12:31PM
It looks fake, but i hope it not because i really want to listen to some musicwhile playing games.
Mr. Nevelo S. @ Jul 20th 2007 12:32PM
Could be real. i hope it is though cause i need to be a racing game for my ps3 cause my crappy 360 game me the red rings even though i would be playing ngs sigma on ps3 anyway guess it dont matter just wanted to mention it. EVERYBODY HIT ME UP ON THE PSN PSN ID IS BEGXFORXMERCY
Mr. Nevelo S. @ Jul 20th 2007 12:32PM
SORRY I NEED TO GET A RACING GAME NOT BE ONE
Stef Geiger @ Jul 20th 2007 12:33PM
Hm. Maybe "Adjust screen settings" would also let you constrain the image so that people can get rid of that bloody overscan. Yes, it's s CRT only issue, but an issue nonetheless. I'm tired of playing games like NFS with the HUD only half visible. Warhawk lets you do this in-game, and man it's nice.
Stef Geiger @ Jul 20th 2007 12:34PM
Maybe you should cut down on the caffeine, Mr. Nevelo S.
Mr. Nevelo S. @ Jul 20th 2007 12:39PM
@stef yea sorry i just had a sod
whackMushrooms @ Jul 20th 2007 12:53PM
real depending on what game this is from ;)
whackMushrooms @ Jul 20th 2007 1:04PM
oh and this is not a firmware update .. its an ingame option like the manuals on the ps1 games.
ekbigpimping @ Jul 20th 2007 12:59PM
Finally my dreams has been answered
Josh @ Jul 20th 2007 12:59PM
I want .avi video support, well with the divx or xvid codec. If sony rolls that out I'll be one happy happy camper. Mpeg just isnt doing it for me, I want to put all my movies on my ps3 and make it a true media center.
Andy @ Jul 20th 2007 1:04PM
Just a question
Could you have custom playlists on PS2 that you could listen in game?
(I didn't own a PS2 so I don't know)
Andy @ Jul 20th 2007 1:14PM
Features I want:
Clock on the screen when you press home
Something to track how many hours you play a certain game(just for curiousity sake)
Thats all. The rest of the features I can live without
Stef Geiger @ Jul 20th 2007 1:14PM
Uh, no, it IS a firmware update. 1.90 is higher than the current version. Therefore it'd be a firmware UPDATE. The feature of having custom soundtracks would only be achievable after a firmware update. What the hell are you talking about?
Steve @ Jul 20th 2007 1:16PM
isnt it likely that all of the PS3s at E3 were 2.0....with home installed on them and everything?
miglaugh @ Jul 20th 2007 2:06PM
@Josh,
You don't have a PC that you can install Tversity on and stream movies and stuff to your PS3?
Or do you just want them local for whatever reason?
coplice @ Jul 20th 2007 2:23PM
am 100% with you Josh, my PS3 isnt a complete media center without divx support, 80% of the video you find on the net are avi
add that:
divx
custom music in game
a better file system (pictures, music, video), make it look like on a PC
but the most important of all:
make games!!!
whackMushrooms @ Jul 20th 2007 2:34PM
yeah stef you know more than everyone here .. where on that screenshot does it say firmware 1.9 huh? or can you read black on black? this being 1.9 is speculation .. i say its not its just an in game feature for wipeoutHD or another PSN game that allows for custom soundtracks .. thats my speculation .. i hate you.
sectionz @ Jul 20th 2007 2:40PM
you guys want divx support so you can watch your illegal downloads .. just admit it ...
Pb @ Jul 20th 2007 2:51PM
@19 - totally agree, need DIVX support!
and that picture is a fake
Andy @ Jul 20th 2007 3:18PM
"you guys want divx support so you can watch your illegal downloads .. just admit it ..."
I live in Canada so they are not considered illegal(yet). Enjoy the FBI America.
Mishi @ Jul 20th 2007 3:32PM
someone fill me in, i don't understand, why would you Divx downloads be considered illegal??
sectionz @ Jul 20th 2007 3:48PM
ok not ALL divx movies are illegal .. it is just THE format of choice .. nothing against the codec .. but tell me when was the last time you needed the divx codec to see a game trailer?
Gunegune @ Jul 20th 2007 4:50PM
The picture looks like it's probably fake. Some guy (or girl) could have posted a picture that looked similar to the PS Button option screen on his/her TV and taken a picture of it. Why wouldn't they show the whole booth just to prove it? It's not like they couldn't have zoomed out.
The whole video file support thing could be solved (for the most part) by Sony if they simply allowed you to install the VideoLAN Client http://www.videolan.org/ much like they did with Folding@home. It's a really great program that plays a bunch of different files and it's Open Source. Although, it has about as much of a chance making it to the PS3 as Mozilla Firefox does.
Popfrogs @ Jul 20th 2007 4:57PM
@sectionz: Who cares, all they do is buy a bulk license then sell us PS3 owners a cheap codec pack.
It'd be the best $5 I have ever spent on the PS Store.
konchu @ Jul 20th 2007 6:17PM
These features look nice really hoping there are some video settings I too have issues with overscan on some games and especially on the playstation store(more of an annoyannce than anything most games are fine)(its an old projection hdtv) and lack of 720p (again old HD tv).
As for Divx and Xvid I would like to see support. But admittedly they are the choice for bootleggers and they dont want to support it which is sad. There are many legitimate uses for these these codecs though.
Stef Geiger @ Jul 20th 2007 7:43PM
whackmushrooms, I'm nearly certain that the menu that pops up when you hit the playstation button has nothing to do with the game you're playing - it's part of the PS3 OS. That being said, a firmware update would be required in order to add that feature to the menu. If it were an in-game feature, you wouldn't use the playstation button menu to access it. So no, I don't pretend to know more than everyone else here, but I felt like your statement was rather inaccurate.
Extinction @ Jul 20th 2007 8:53PM
1) It looks fake. Where are the grey lines at the top and bottom?
2) If you want divx/xvid so bad, install linux
Laurens Holst @ Jul 21st 2007 6:11AM
@Stef Geiger: Maybe your TV has adjustment dials on the back with which you can adjust the width and height of your screen? If not on the outside, they are almost certainly on the inside, if you take your TV to a repair guy he should be able to adjust the amount of overscan to be minimal (I would tell you to do it yourself, but TVs can shock you with thousands of volts even if they’ve been turned off for a while, so you have to be careful).
@whackMushrooms: I’ve never seen games add something to. And gawd, did you really just say "I hate you"? How old are you.
#sectionz: In many countries (like the Netherlands), it is legal to download copyrighted material (but illegal to upload).
Stef Geiger @ Jul 21st 2007 10:22AM
Yeah, I found a site that explained how to get into the "designer menus" of my TV and tweaked the picture size and shape a while ago, but unfortunately it STILL suffers from serious overscan in 480p, and the 1080i image is off center and the image actually curls over itself for about an inch on the right side. The TV is also 9 years old, so I can't really expect much out of it. Thanks anyway though.
tibbar110 @ Jul 21st 2007 2:57PM
Hopefully that screen adjustment will allow us with older HDTVs to play the game in HD rather than 480p.
waldo @ Aug 2nd 2007 7:32PM
since update 1.90
your ps3 will also play "avi" movies.
just transfer them to your ps3harddisk with Nerohome media.
greetings,
waldo (game designer)
