LittleBigPlanet is almost done, public beta in a few months

- Your character has different moods (changed by hitting a direction on the D-pad) and depending on these moods, he will control differently. He will bounce as he moves if happy, or keep his head low and walk like he's pouting when sad.
- Player vs. Player mode will be available -- there's more than just cooperating to create a level. An example of this would be the "Racing Mode" where levels are built for speed. If you've ever played the final stage in Earthworm Jim 2, we expect something like that footrace with Psy-Crow. That was a hard level.
- LBP is nearly complete and a public beta is supposedly hitting the PSN sometime this fall prior to release.
[Thanks, Justin!]

this game looks amazing. everyone ive shown it loves it no matter how childish it looks at first. by friends with xbox 360s said they would buy a ps3 for this game.
headmanice @ Jul 21st 2007 4:14PM
my friend sold his 360 when i showed this game to him and other ps3 games... but this was all planned i mean... he got a 360 cuz it was 1st to market and was planning on buying a ps3 anyway.. but this game is wat really made him sell his 360 right away!
Stef Geiger @ Jul 21st 2007 4:21PM
I wonder how that beta will go. Hopefully it'll be better than the Home beta signup and more like Warhawk's.
GodisaMyth @ Jul 21st 2007 4:28PM
LBP is most definitely a system mover.
Once someone sees this game at a friends house, they will start playing it. Once they discover that they can create their own levels, they will play it even more.
This game is one of the most innovative ideas for an original IP in a long, long time.
I am guessing that alot more user content heavy games will start to pop up once this game sells like mad.
Games 3.0 ONLY on PS3.
Popfrogs @ Jul 21st 2007 4:38PM
#4 said it all. This game appeals to everyone, and shockingly enough, you get to *create* things in it. Every single other game has you *destroying* things. Sure, I love destruction, but the other half of a man's mind is the desire to build things.
Who Flang Poo @ Jul 21st 2007 4:41PM
I dont get what the hype is about this game its so boring and childish its probably one of the most pointless games i have ever played. But yea its just my opinion, but i doubt itll move systems but it will be sucsesfull judging on how many people seem to like it.
Rooslin @ Jul 21st 2007 5:30PM
# 6
uhhhh wtf? for starters it cant be ther worst game u have ever played enless u played it and even if u have then wow you have to be one boring person to not see this game and think omg wow and think of all the shit u can create u are obviously probaly just a plain exclusive first person shooter guy arent u?
Popfrogs @ Jul 21st 2007 6:14PM
#6 is a complete retard. Can the mods ban him already?
"its probably one of the most pointless games i have ever played. "
This game hasn't even been in beta yet.
Murry @ Jul 21st 2007 6:46PM
Sadly im thinking 'public beta' means GAP members. Which you have to be chosen for and i dont have a clue how you get chosen for that. :/ I was so excited when they said Home was going to be in public beta back in august and here is is july and I dont think anyone outside of GAP has access.
OrganicShadow @ Jul 21st 2007 6:54PM
I thought on the GameTrailers.com interview video they said "hopefully spring or summer 08"....
I'm praying to my various heathen devil pagan bagel gods that it releases before the end of the calendar year.
Dahk @ Jul 21st 2007 6:56PM
This is DEFINITELY a systems mover.
In fact when I've shown this to guys and girls alike, and (stereotypically) the guys couldn't stop staring at the beautiful graphics, textures and physics, and the girls couldn't stop GAWKING at how cute the damn thing was.
And of course after this, they REALLY wanted a PS3 lol. (Proud of my PS3 advertisement =D).
Gosh the release date cannot come soon enough.
Who Flang Poo @ Jul 21st 2007 7:17PM
Yea, sorry for mis wording my last comment.
But, yea doubt itll be a system pusher. Its prety much like saying that Viva Pinata pushed 360 consles.
Idk this game doesn't appeal to me looks boringand pointless.
Mr. Dark E @ Jul 21st 2007 7:49PM
@12
You don't speak for everyone. In your opinion and only yours.
Moving on.
I can't wait. Hopefully I'll get the special treatment like Warhawk than Home [Gotta get it first]
insane257 @ Jul 21st 2007 7:57PM
Sorry to agree with Who Flang, but this title looks like it's gonna be over-rated. I don't like the look of it. I've been spoiled by FFXIII, Gran Tourismo 5, Wipeout HD, Lair etc.
deweather @ Jul 21st 2007 8:27PM
Personally, this is THE game that makes me want a PS3. While I can't wait for Heavenly Sword, LAIR, MGS4, etc, LBP looks so unique and fun to play (and keep playing, unlike most games today). I would compare LBP to the launch games of the Wii and what so many people expect Wii to be.
I hope this game encourages developers to continue creating games like LBP. I really hope they release it this year so I can pick up a 60gb PS3 with EE before they run out after christmas.
BerkleyJ @ Jul 21st 2007 8:46PM
Back at GDC they said it was to have only a few pre-made levels and you create stuff the rest of the game. But everyday they include more and more. For example at E3 they stated it was now going to have as many levels as they could get on the blu-ray disc (a lot) and now they include competitive race mode. This game gets better and better everyday.
inspectre @ Jul 21st 2007 8:48PM
The developers said the beta is hopefully out this year for feedback, then they will finish the game in 2008 depending on what the testers want. I wish it was coming sooner too.
Broken Haiku @ Jul 21st 2007 8:56PM
I try to not have too high hopes for LBP because it does indeed look like loads of fun, but might as well (just as I fear with the coming PC title Spore), be all too high hyped and get boring fast.
Who knows? All I know is that I will buy it and lots of friends are very interested in trying it out too.
Bluebrake @ Jul 21st 2007 9:00PM
I actually had no idea this was a PSN title. Any idea what something like this would cost on there?
Real Gambler @ Jul 21st 2007 9:44PM
Any console games with user content will do well. UT3 will be awesome, but this game will please more people... Think about it. Kids will be able to show that game to their parent and say I want a PS3. And parents will look at this game and say "Wow, I could likely finally play a game with my kid".
Personally, it's in the basket already!
ck @ Jul 21st 2007 10:33PM
It's on PSN first, then a retail BD version with more content. Calling it a "downloadable kiddie game" just shows you already have a bias against for some reason.
And as if any game is going to sell a system by itself. So-called "system-sellers" are titles that sway people in one direction or the other. Of course they're going to pick up other titles for the system to make their spend worthwhile, once they have the system.
Duh.
adrian @ Jul 21st 2007 10:46PM
this is the game wii owners wish was coming to their system. i am in no way trashing the wii, its a fun system.
This is one of the games that swayed me to the PS3 when i was considering the ps3 and xbox 360. this, along with a game or two from team ico (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus) will ensure some good variety from Warhawk and UT3.
Darkdrium777 @ Jul 21st 2007 11:09PM
I can only hope 'public beta' means what it implies. I'd hate to see myself denied access to this game early just because I'm not in some group of randomly chosen people.
Jase @ Jul 21st 2007 11:12PM
"This isn't a full ps3 game thats going to be sold in stores? As in its just like an Xbox Live Arcade game correct?
If so then I definitely don't need to worry about it."
Worry about what?..., making you feel stupid for buying your hyped up Wii?... for being a possible "System seller"?
God you wretched little fanboy.
"However its not going to make me go buy a $500 system just to play a downloadable game."
First a donloadable game, THEN BLU-RAY. Do you even read information before you post such DRIVEL?... others do because it makes you seem reasonable, try to make an effort, MMMMMK?
"And for all this talk about how great the game is I still haven't seen what you really do IN the game. Other than create the creatures and design levels wheres the fun? Wheres the actual game? Racing people? Fighting?"
Why don't you search up some god damn video you stupid close minded moron.
Jake @ Jul 22nd 2007 12:47AM
LBP will have a completely open beta. They want as many people to play it as possible. They're going to use some of the user-created levels from the beta in the final Blu-Ray disc release. You shouldn't have to worry about being a GAP or PS Underground member.
Skinchaser @ Jul 22nd 2007 1:14AM
I am looking forward to this game. I have a 8 year old boy and a 13 year old daughter that could use a game that isn't about cutting off someones head or blowing away a chimera. I loved the PS2 because it delivered a wide variety of games, not just shooters and sports. I will buy this and any other game like it just to add to the large pile of people who would like to see more quality family games put on the PS3. That's not to say I buy into crap like the movie games. Spiderman, Transformers and Fantastic Four were some of the worst games I ever played, complete dung. Games like Spyro, Ratchet and Jak showed that a game did not have to be ultra violent to do well (Loving Restistance though just don't tell my kids).
Laurens Holst @ Jul 22nd 2007 3:14AM
@Jase: I don’t know who you’re talking to (the comment was removed?), but I just want to say that looking at posts like this, the stigma that downloadable titles have will be hard to overcome for Sony. I hope they can succeed in that.
Expressions like ‘just a downloadable game’, and the that Sony’s PSN offerings are compared to XBox Live Arcade, even though they have none of the limitations that those XBox games have, and all the freedom of games released on Blu-ray (thanks to the hard drive)… It’s clear to see here that PS3 is a ways ahead of the XBox with their network games, even though for some reason PSN gets so much flak.
Curmeo @ Jul 22nd 2007 8:26AM
as a commentator said before, LittleBigPlanet has the potential to revolutionize 3D platformers in the same way Super Mario 64 did.
even if it doesnt become a system seller, which i highly doubt, i still feel LBP will make history. after this game is released and has won numerous awards, developers will start making LBP clones, just like what happened after the success of SM64.
LBP is a game one would think Nintendo would create/pioneer. the truth though is, LBP isnt possible on the Wii. the real-time calculations and physics needed for this game can only be achieved on the PS3, 360, and a high-end PC.
Daz @ Jul 22nd 2007 2:41PM
This game alone will ensure I climb aboard the Playstation bandwagon. It'll make me buy a console just for the beta!
Andy @ Jul 22nd 2007 1:26PM
A game like this could be really fun with Mario, Yoshi and DK. Too bad Nintendo relies almost exclusively on its developed franchises.
That said this is going to be a fun game, I compare it to Lego. No matter how old you get Lego is still fun because you can build things using your imagination.
Cmon, who doesn't still play Lego every once in awhile?
Neill @ Jul 22nd 2007 6:13PM
this game is the sole reason that i REALLY want to buy a PS3
panamakid @ Jul 22nd 2007 6:38PM
umm.. I love my ps3 and all the games thats comming.. (most of them in fucking 08).. espically mgs4.. but Wtf is this shit. This is the most stupidest game ever.. i have Half-life mods on my computer way better than that!! and mods come from ppl who bearly have money.. s0ny. i love you n all.. but you can make 1 or 2 good games and the rest crap ( espically this one
Jake @ Jul 22nd 2007 8:08PM
@panamakid
Half-life mods come from people with barely any money, and comments like that (#33) come from people with barely any intelligence.
Consolcwby @ Jul 22nd 2007 8:54PM
@panamakid: =o wtf is up with your 'tude dude?... MGS4 and Half-Life aren't even in the same genre as this game. And since this is going to be one of the first community based games to ever come out - why do you hate? The genre or the art I can understand, but you take the whole and shit on it for no reason. Maybe you should be looking at SoCom from the PSN Store, Mercenaries, COD4, UT3, et al. if those are games that interest you. "...but you can make 1 or 2 good games and the rest crap..." Oh, brother! =S
butcher99 @ Jul 22nd 2007 10:16PM
Sounds a lot like viva pinata with a co-op mode. Oh ya, i will rush out and buy a ps3 to play viva pinata in co-op mode.
The picture up top even looks like viva pinata
Popfrogs @ Jul 22nd 2007 10:51PM
It's funny how polarizing this game is. All the kids jacked up on ADHD medication can't step away from FPS games for 5 minutes to play something different and interesting.
Don't you kids ever get bored of chasing people around and shooting them? Seriously.
Jase @ Jul 22nd 2007 11:53PM
I love how ignorant people love to compare this to Viva Pinata, the reason?... because it has a variety of colors. Priceless. How close minded can you get?
It'd be nice for people to actually look into this genre & search for information... instead of asking question & continuing to insult right after.
@Andy - "A game like this could be really fun with Mario, Yoshi and DK. Too bad Nintendo relies almost exclusively on its developed franchises."
Mario, Donkey kong?... why don't you just grab the game, and turn a sack boy into Luigi? You can change the whole appearance you know.
Heck, you can even re-create a Super Mario LEVEL. Doesn't seem so bad now does it?...
The thing is guys, if many... MANY people look into this title, and develop a desire to play it... it CAN become a system seller. Otherwise, in my opinion, it'll be great fun.
Whether you don't think so, is fine. Although, before some of you people compare it to Viva Pinata (Totally different genre...!! Alright?!... it's actually original & appealing) or insult it to death with misinformed comments... take the time to actually LEARN about the damn thing FIRST.
Sheesh.
Lix @ Jul 27th 2007 3:10AM
This is a system mover.
It’s all about sparking the imagination. The Wii sparked the imagination. Little Big Planet will also spark the imagination.
Mark my words
nick @ Aug 27th 2007 9:39AM
Just amazing this game is, i heard from somewhere, i think off a vid (interviewing the main man at molecule) that there is gonna be a demo b4 xmas...i hope so, will give us a taster!!
and i also think it is gonna be like Warhawk...both PSN and BlueRay Disc...
