No exclusive content for PS3 GTA IV, says Rockstar
In the "news that blows" category, a Rockstar spokesperson confirmed the absence of any exclusive content for the PS3 edition of GTA IV. In speaking with Games Radar, Rockstar spokesperson Hosi Simon claimed that if gamers want the "complete experience with the episodes" that they would be best served by the Xbox 360 version, because the PS3 edition will not have any exclusive content to call their own. We're betting Sony's Phil Harrison was on the cusp of telling fans something quite tasty awhile back, so we shouldn't be surprised if a reverse announcement comes out down the road. Seriously, in light of past exclusives falling by the wayside, it would be hard to believe anything is sacred in one camp alone.

It pains me to say this Rockstar, but I believe you are sold out to M$. Working with them does that along the years... pity.

i dont know how to feel right now... sniff sniff,
betrayed, lied to, used, oh rockstar why must you treat me so. i HATE YOu..
no, im sorry i love you, ill never get mad again you stupid bastard, im sorry, no stop, no dont hit me noooooooooooooooooo...

it's still possible, based on the wording, that the ps3 would receive the 360's downloadable content on the blueray (meaning the content is not exclusive to the ps3..), but i suspect it wouldn't be ready when the game goes retail..
they also still haven't negated the possibility that there will be downloadable content on the ps3.. and actually, given rockstar's stance on the matter, how they don't seem to want to take sides in the console war, i can't forget them saying they want the experience to be the same on both platforms..
Stef Geiger @ Jul 26th 2007 3:19PM
I wonder just how "identical" the games will be. I'm betting the 360 version is going to look and play better, which is a shame.
Michael @ Jul 26th 2007 3:22PM
Sometimes I wonder if the PS3fanboy editors make blog titles to piss us off or if they are really Xbox360fanboy editors in disguise. Here is the quote simon said
"But I guess if you want the complete experience with the episodes, then yeah, you should buy the 360, I suppose,"
The complete experince means the epsiodes, it does not rule out anything in the works for the PS3 version... yet. Plus, we all read and heard what Phil Harrison said, so nothing should be put to rest yet.
I swear PS3fanboy, you guys really chop and screw the article. This is something I would expect from xbox360fanboy, not you guys.
shase @ Jul 26th 2007 3:20PM
As a gamer who doesn't care for GTA at all (dont like the openess to the game nor the play), i say that he is very misleading. He should've said "completeness + 10$ more for the price of the game". Oh well, 50million is great investment i suppose.
Andy @ Jul 26th 2007 3:22PM
I heard Microsoft payed $50 million for the exclusive content and simalteneous launching. These are just rumours but they make me cry.
Microsoft you are a fucking joke.
ninjakamster @ Jul 26th 2007 3:35PM
Damn this sucks, wave after wave of negative PS3 news. : (
Concerning F.E.A.R, the 360 is to get Extraction Point and the new other expansion pack this Fall but no news for the PS3, guess it won't get it?
PS3 is always getting ignored, shafted, Rockstar, if you dislike the PS3 that much, why even make the game for the system in the first place?
F you 360, F you.

M$ is f***ing shady... The ONLY company that has to pay-off devs in order to obtain exclusive content... Quite a shame, well in my opinion Rockstar will regret it once they realize the sales on GTA4 will be much greater on PS3 since a small minority will want to play GTA4 on a defective, cheap, piece of shit crapbox.
Ithilis @ Jul 26th 2007 3:56PM
Wow, you guys are really bitter over here. Personally, I don't understand how you can be so angry with Microsoft for throwing their money around. They came into this console race as the underdog and had very little choice in the matter. You should be mad at Sony for thinking that they could rest on their laurels and still win the war. Microsoft didn't steal the GTA exclusivity, Sony LOST it. It's that simple.
Now, before you all decide to flame me, know that I still love the Playstation brand and plan on getting a PS3 in the new year. I played my PS2 enough to wear out the laser 4 times, and Sony was kind enough to replace it free of charge each time. I never owned an Xbox, and I only bought a 360 upon a whim (and a bonus at work) when Gears of War came out. Since getting one, however, I have been very pleased with it and it's future prospects. Why? Because Microsoft seems determined to succeed. Until recently, Sony just didn't seem to care. They seem to be fighting back, now, though, and that's a good sign. Give me the Sony that dared challenge Nintendo and I'll buy a PS3, whatever the price.
FrankBilboWinkerToups @ Jul 26th 2007 3:59PM
Exclusive Red Rings of Death level? I'm sure whatever content there is won't be anything significant.
FrankBilboWinkerToups @ Jul 26th 2007 4:02PM
I forgot to add Sony cares more about Blue Ray succeeding than throwing money at sinkhole Take Two in order to get a bonus crap.
doug @ Jul 26th 2007 4:02PM
the main game is the same they wont even get the exclusive content till march of 08 at which time I think everyone thats worth anything will be playing MGS4
shase @ Jul 26th 2007 4:04PM
I am hoping ESRB bans this game too along with manhunt 2...wait then MS will be able to buy rockstar entirely
BlackBeltJones @ Jul 26th 2007 4:16PM
When bad news comes like this just do what I do, own all the systems. Hooray for disposable income!
shase @ Jul 26th 2007 4:21PM
@17
I am sure many of us here can own them all but might not have time to play them all or i guess arent "hardcore" enough. I just opened my Odin Sphere like 2 days ago and haven't been playing much of anything for a couple of months due to work and grad school. I am sure many others have better places to spend the money in. I think time is more of a key than money in owning all the systems.

Is that jealousy I see? I find it comical how pissed you guys are. It is Sony who stepped on their dick. Trenton and Harrison constantly run their mouths, and it gets them no where. Sony should be pulling cash out of their pockets if they want to win the "console war." They're losing exclusives left and right, and don't pull that "but UT3 is an exclusives", it's a timed exclusive, two or three months makes no difference. Xbots and mindless PS3 fanboys are fighting over nothing. Do us all favor and grow up.

I say this as a PS3 only owner, but my friend worked for Rare as a tester, the rumour was that RS had tried to talk with Sony about sorting GTA for the PS3 only and Sony treated them with so much disrespect they headed off to MS instead. Like I said, I say this as a PS3 owner and not as a flamer/BSer.
MYPS3KilledMy360 @ Jul 26th 2007 5:49PM
right now its ok that the ps3 GTAIV isnt getting any, as long as there nice games coming out i might not have time to dwell on content thats coming in march. im not hatingon the 360.it just that i dont buy any extra content i didnt even buy the resistance fall of man map pack because rainbow six came out. MS just like dropping money cause they can, they lost over 1 billon dollars on that extended warrenty, killzone 2 to is 20 million GTA Ep content is 50 million. you might as well pay $80 up front for content you gonna get later. just my opinion! but its sad that the PS3 get punished because of the 360 current limitations(cough disc space and Core systems)

MYPS3KilledMy360 @ Jul 26th 2007 6:33PM
@4 im think GTAIV was built on the PS3 so the 360 will be getting the port. will the 360 be able to get a cache option? the draw distance that almost killed saints row probably will effect the 360 but then again oblivion contridicts this statment. it all comes down to the devs and there ability.
insane257 @ Jul 26th 2007 6:35PM
. Now i love my PS3, but this is beginning to annoy me.
My mate owns a 360. I own a PS3. We always argue which is the best console, and how on earth can i defend this? Microsoft has basically spent 50 million to sabotage the PS3 version of the game which is a great move for them. I know people who are going to buy 360's just for this episodic content.
Also, did anyone play 'Heavenly Sword Demo' on the PSN store? I am sad to say that i hated it. It was like Genji all over again.
If Final Fantasy XIII isn't out soon i will be seriously considering quitting gaming. This generation of gaming has been the worst since Sega shot themselves in the foot by releasing the Dreamcast too early.
It's just so unpredictable. One minute you've got Sony showing of exclusive titles like Killzone 2 at E3, the next you've got GTA IV with no exclusive content.
Then again, it depends if the content is good. Will 360 owners be stupid enough to pay for Xbox Live, as many of them do, GTA IV AND pay more for expansions? They have more money than sense if they do.
Not impressed Sony. In fact, if Final Fantasy VII isn't remade on the PS3, i have no use for this PS3 sitting in front of me. I am that annoyed with it all. This isn't our 1st exclusive to go over to a rival company/console.

clavian @ Jul 26th 2007 7:47PM
I'm a 360 owner and a PS3 owner. Given M$'s habit of charging for this so-called extra "content", they and R* can take said content and shove it right up their cash-lined cornholes. I won't be subsidizing M$'s continued attempts to drive game prices to the $100 mark. I'll be just fine with the main game!
pete @ Jul 26th 2007 8:05PM
@32, i am sorry to hear that, really i am. BUT its all coming together though she was a lil limp in the sack last night. no BUT seriously im sorry to hear about your loss.
Thomas @ Jul 26th 2007 8:07PM
I hate the fact that Rockstar underutilizes the blu ray disc, and then the extra content goes to the 360. I mean MS did pay for the extra content, and the users are going to have to pay for it them selves. The game should be good enough as is, I don't really need extra pay for content.
MisterL @ Jul 26th 2007 8:26PM
clavian has a good point, extra content is good and all but only if it's free. If you have to pay for it, screw it. Extra content on the 360 is not that special, they can keep it because we all know it'll come to the PS3 sooner or later for free ala R6. And if it doesn't, no loss at all because I'm still looking forward to play GTAIV.
Jypson @ Jul 26th 2007 10:55PM
I think it's funny how people are mad that Microsoft is shelling out the cash for exclusive content, but is okay with Sony doing the same thing with Blu Ray at Target and Blockbuster.

In a statement on Thursday, Sony Corp. said that Target will exclusively carry Blu-ray players "at least through the holiday season" and will also expand its inventory of Blu-ray discs.
http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSN2643741920070726
Now why would Target sell Blu-ray players exclusively though the holiday season without some financial restitution? Because losing HD-DVD sales is fun?
clavian @ Jul 27th 2007 2:09AM
The burden of proof is on you pal! Your the one that insinuated that Sony was paying Target. Prove it!
I see no mention of a pay-off.
Jldowning @ Jul 27th 2007 2:44AM
Well Sony isn't paying 50 million for 2 million bucks worth of end cap.
Microsoft payed 50 mil, for content that clearly did not cost 50 mil to make.
As for why would Target not chose to sell HD DvD drives this holiday season? I donno, maybe cuz they don't sell!
I mean really, When I look at a HD DVD for 29.99 and a Blu-Ray for 29.99... yeah imma get the bluRay. The better product for the same price? hell ya!
HD DvD's only standing point was it was "Cheaper" Yet they didn't pass that on to the consumer, and now Blockbuster doesn't even rent them out anymore.
Jldowning @ Jul 27th 2007 2:53AM
Sorry for the Double post.
But yes R* is on my shit list right now for letting the 360's limitations effect the PS3 game.
I don't care if all 360's don't have hard drives, or they don't have enough disk space, no PS3 has those limitations and I don't see why OUR version of the game should suffer because Microsofts choice to give you Less for More.
Now after that slap in the face to a PS3 owner, we find out that the system that R* devs said is limiting the game, is now receiving Exclusive content, that was Clearly bought by Microsoft for much more then it would have cost them to "Fund" it.
Now I own a 360, however I will not be buying this game on either system. This move by R* shat on both PS3 owners AND 360 owners faces believe it or not. One group of players can't get the content, the other group will have to pay out of its pocket to Microsoft for it.
At most I will buy it 2nd hand... but just my two cents!
Jypson @ Jul 27th 2007 2:51AM
There is now way of proving that Sony payed Target to only sell the BD player. Neither Target or especially Sony would admit to such a transaction taking place. The negative feedback they would receive would be overwhelming.
So there is no burden of proof Inspector Clavian, because that proof would have to come from a whistle blower within their ranks...which I am not.
I based my comment on the fact that Sony is paying an UNDISCLOSED amout of money to have their product displayed on the end of the aisles. I understand this practice is completely normal, but the decision to carry the BD player only through the holidays is not normal at all. This is why I believe this undisclosed amount of money was substancialy higher than normal to compensate for the loss of revenue from HD-DVD player sales. ANYWAY, my point was that I found it amusing that people were complaining about Microsoft throwing their check book around, but not mentioning Sony doing the same exact thing in their latest format push.
Jypson @ Jul 27th 2007 3:00AM
43. Well Sony isn't paying 50 million for 2 million bucks worth of end cap.
Microsoft payed 50 mil, for content that clearly did not cost 50 mil to make.(and?)
As for why would Target not chose to sell HD DvD drives this holiday season? I donno, maybe cuz they don't sell!
(Target does sell the HD DVD player on their website and will continue to do so)
I mean really, When I look at a HD DVD for 29.99 and a Blu-Ray for 29.99(your price examples are no where near reality in NA)... yeah imma get the bluRay. The better product for the same price? hell ya!
(BD a better product? The picture and sound quality are nearly undistinguishable. I have the 360 add on and a PS3....no differene, trust me)
HD DvD's only standing point was it was "Cheaper" Yet they didn't pass that on to the consumer,(what?) and now Blockbuster doesn't even rent them out anymore.
(Blockbuster still rents HD DVD through their online program and will continue to do so)
Jldowning @ Jul 27th 2007 3:07AM
Ok so you say the difference between HD DvD and BluRay is "undistinguishable" but thats your opinion, and Fact is BluRay is better. (hell sound and picture aside, it fits TWICE as much, and is much harder to damage)
Also it depends alot on your TV how much of a difference you will notice. I'm sure you have a 1080p Tv though, cuz if you didn't your entire post would have been said out of your ass ;)
As for online, its cheaper to sale stuff online then at the store, and I'm sure they still have HD DVD in stock.
I mean I don't see why you would support HD DVD unless you were a sucker that actually bought that second rate piece of shat HD DVD scam ;)
Hell I've I forked 200 bucks over for it I'd hand onto what ever worth it had too!

Sorry its late, and there is no edit.
Jypson @ Jul 27th 2007 4:11AM
So in the land of "Jldowning," is their a different 1080p that I haven't seen yet?
"I mean I don't see why you would support HD DVD unless you were a sucker that actually bought that second rate piece of shat HD DVD scam ;)"
-What are you talking about? What I don't understand, is why people get frothy at the mouth defending their preffered HD format and putting the other down.
"Ok so you say the difference between HD DvD and BluRay is "undistinguishable" but thats your opinion, and Fact is BluRay is better."
- I love how you prove your facts! Jldowning Land must be one crazy alternate reality.
I'm not too fond of either format personally. HD-DVD doesn't have a whole lot of studio support, and Sony has a terrible track record concerning exclusive formats and proprietarity. I have a feeling that Sony will end up as the survivor of this format debacle, not from superiority, but from shrewd business practices that undercut the competition and cut out customer preferences all together. In my opinion, their first priority is to eliminate the competition, AND THEN worry about refining what Blu-ray is now into a decent HD product. This is all my OPINION and doesn not include any "Jldowning facts!".
nailerr @ Jul 27th 2007 6:50AM
I.... Oh, Token said it.
I'm getting GTA4 for PS3, and I have both consoles. Why? Do not give a dead rats are about down-loadable content. It rarely pushes value for money and the MAIN GAME will be on the disc, DVD or Blu-ray.
Reason two, the PS3 has the advantage of the built in HDD meaning I can play the game on a quieter system and not worry about the disc read errors on a perfectly clean DVD. Saints Row, Oblivion, Rainbow Six, Dead Rising. All pristine condition and ALL suffer from random read errors.
When I want to play online I go 360, when I want massive open worlds with stability I go PS3.
And all you tools bitching and whining, you are pathetic and you shame the rest of us with your cry-baby posts. I just wish I could distance myself from the lot of you when I tell people I play games.
ryo @ Jul 27th 2007 11:16AM
this fall M$ is gonna release a much more effecient machine with their .65 nm chip. this should fix all errors, be much quieter, cooler and cause the parts to be smaller and cheaper to produce. which means *drum roll* a price cut.
the parts may be so condenced they might even fit the huge power brick inside (which is what the PS3 did and why it's bigger than a 360).
if this is true, this fall i'll be getting a 360 over a PS3. when the real games like MGS 4 and FF XIII come out i'll consider a PS3 with a nice SHOCKAXIS controller.
@Nailerr:
so if downloadable content came to PS3 you're saying that you wouldn't even think about it? more guns or vehicles? FREE content?....yeah i thought it'd be hard to resist. reason 1 shattered.

I heavily doubt that, if anything its being developed on the 360 because in the Game Informer cover story article for GTA IV and most other magazine stories covering the game, the pics are from a 360 dev, GI sates this on a caption on pg. 44 on issue 169, "All of the screen shots in this article were taken of a Xbox 360 debug unit".
