PS3 owners spend more time with the console than any other

Nielsen just released their monthly GamePlay Metrics report, and it showed that PS3 owners use their consoles much longer than any other systems. The average session with a PS3 was 83 minutes in the month of June. In comparison, the average Xbox 360 session lasted 61 minutes, and the average Wii session lasted only 57 minutes. Could super-long Super Stardust HD play sessions be responsible for PS3's unusually long play time?

How did Nielsen get these numbers? According to their press release, "Nielsen GamePlay Metrics uses console data collected from the Nielsen's People Meter TV sample combined with Nielsen GamePlay Metrics' proprietary audio signature library that matches the unique audio signature of every game tracked on the six most widely available video game consoles, including PlayStation 2, PLAYSTATION 3, Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii and GameCube. The GamePlay Metrics user sample includes more than 12,000 households with approximately 33,000 individuals."

Although PS3 owners reported played the longest average sessions, they still account for only 1.5% of the total gameplay minutes played last month. The PS2 is still the most played console, accounting for more than 42% of total gameplay time.

I believe this is true. I spend a lot more time with my PS3 than my Wii. In fact, most of my time playing any games are Tekken 5: DR and R6Vegas. I occasionally play Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Fight Night 3.

I will say this before the Xbox fanpeople can.

Could it be because people leave it on for folding@home?

Between the PS3 and 360 it is very close but I know for sure the Wii has really short play times.

If you think about it, its h-core gamers who bought the PS3 so it makes sense they play alot.

I actually haven't touched mine in a couple of days, its too fucking hot upstairs so I can't afford any extra heat.

I love summer but I am not used to all this heat...I'm Canadian.

Having just bought a PS3, mine has spent the majority of the time...folding. Which is fine, I only bought mine this early because I wanted a model that still had hardware BC in it, and I got one on the cheap thanks to my employee discount. Once I grab a copy of Subsistence, I'm sure it'll be seeing a lot more use.

what Andrew Yoon is saying is that the the avrage session for playing is the longest on the PS3 then any other console.

And @11 it ain't really "spun" to make it better for the ps3fanboyer its stated a fact and I'm pretty sure any World of Warcraft site would list WOW as the most played game on PC in June along side Halo: Combat Evolved, there ain't no point in reporting something about something else on a site about a something diffrent... that might've just confused some ppl.

Having just recently purchased a PS3 and only one game for it, RFOM. I have spent more time playing God of War (never played it on PS2) on it then RFOM just because I started to play CO-OP with my brother and figured I would wait for him to finish the game. I will play the PS3 a lot more when Lair comes out.

But as an owner of a 360 also, I will never buy a game for the PS3 if its on both systems, will always go with the 360 version. I enjoy XBL and I'm an Achievement whore, I can admit it.

So in terms of usage for me its about 2 hours a week for games, and the rest of the week Folding@Home! So its always on but very very little actual usage.

I am not bashing the PS3 in anyway, I am excited about Lair but right now there is nothing to play except the PS2 games I missed out on.

that means that even though they log in less or use it less frequent but when they do they play longer then on 360. maybe its because some people can afford a ps3 cause they have a job which also means they have less time to use it because they have a JOB.

Is because we can use our system for more than just gaming... DUH... I use it constantly, sometimes for music, sometimes for gaming and ALOT of times for Blu Ray moves.

PS3Fanboy.com is spinning it to say "PS3's average minutes per session is larger then all other consoles!" at 83 minutes per session

This article is just rubbish though because if this does include Folding@Home my PS3 is on 24/7 all week.
