Sony wins Grand Prix prize for publishing awesomeness

At the Develop Industry Excellence Awards, the European segment of Sony walked away with the most prestigious award available at said ceremony. When given the award, the statement given for Sony's excellence was described as follows: "capping 12 months which have seen the firm deliver a new hardware format that has inspired developers around the world to make cutting-edge next generation games." That's right -- the PlayStation 3 is getting the clout for developers worldwide making fantastic new titles.

Other Sony products receiving awards were SCEE/Evolution Studios for best new IP with Motorstorm, and Zoe Mode got the same nod for their PSP game Crush. There were other awards for many other titles, but as far as Sony goes, this is about the extent of their excellence. We give them similar props because, well, we're sure next year they'll get an award for LittleBigPlanet. It's inevitable. Anyone care to make a wager?

Come this time next year and this competition will be a one horse race - Home, new PSN Store, PS Eye, plus all of the top games titles - Game Over MS!

How can you not be impressed with Motorstorm?
or Lair?
or LittleBIGPlanet?
or Home?

Those are some original titles you will only find on PS3.

Put those with some more mainstream games like Killzone 2 and Gran Turismo and you got one happy customer...me.

I agree with what Ian mentioned. '08 is going to be a year in which M$ feels much more heat from the PS3.

Motorstorm was so rushed - japanese got screwed over for that game and the US version was somewhat "complete" - if they had a couple more months it wouldve been so much better. Lair is yet to be seen how well it does - it might not sell well due to the genre. LBP is great, but the bottom line of the game will be generating extra revenue - it's more or less a PSN download and it may sell for 20ish, but they have to somehow have people pay extra for contents. Home is great but if it doesn't generate income - buying furnitures/spaces, advertising etc. then it is a failure. Sony is already paying online out of its own pocket and these couple heavy internet features/games need to somehow generate revenue.
