Rockstar bringing new franchise exclusively to PS3

In a new interview with Game Head, SCEA president Jack Tretton, let loose that Sony was working with Take Two and Rockstar on a brand new IP, exclusive to PS3. Sony wanted to respect Take Two's wishes to bring Grand Theft Auto IV to both the 360 and PS3. However, they asked if they could continue the relationship they had developed over the years to work on the "next big franchise" for the controversial game publisher.

SCEA's director of 3rd party relations, Michael Shorrock, updated the official US PlayStation blog, confirming this new relationship. "Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of CELL and Blu-ray disc and this deal lets them do just that ... This is really a win-win situation for both companies."

However, considering how Microsoft had to loan out $50 million to make GTA downloadable content exclusive to Xbox 360, one has to wonder if Sony had to shell out any cash as well. Sure, Sony and Take Two are friends ... but this is a business, right?

Well we all read the interview where Rockstar said 360 is holding back GTA4. So it makes sense that they would go back to Sony to make a game on their system.

Can't wait to find out what it is!

now... this makes a lot of sense.

for giving up GTAIV's exclusivity. Sony gets the new game exclusive; T2 gets 50 million dollars for Microsoft and Microsoft gets GTAIV and bragging right. :)

trenton was positive that it was something AS BIG AS what tomb raider and gta was for the previous playstation platforms ..

now my question now becomes .. or my rant .. WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH YOU GAME BLOG/NEWS MEDIA PEOPLE? this has been known since fucking E3 which was WEEKS ago ... you all suck for holding this back .. but good timing otherwise I guess .. this was a FTW week for the playstation brand.

Well good for Sony, even if they may have had to shell out some cash. But this "next big thing" has just been announced and hasnt even started development yet. I am guessing that if they truly are going for making a game only the PS3 can do, then it is going to be a long time. Probably up to 3 years away. I mean first they have to come up with the game itself. I am sure they ideas but it sounds like they havent really begun anything yet.

3 years from now, I hope developers by then will be able to harness the capabilities of the PS3. But by then we may start seeing the Next Next Gen consoles start to surface. I dont think Sony will be involved though. I think they are going to stick with the PS3 for a very long time.

Rockstar sold over 10 million copies of its GTA games on the PS2 and Sony sold millions of consoles because of it. Rockstar should at least make a PS3 only title out of respect.

Why did Rockstar need a loan from Microsoft? They are already making millions.

I hope its LA NOIRE.

The 360 version of GTA will sell nearly 4 million (as the episodic content is more appealing to people who want to fully enjoy their gaming experience) copies by dec and the ps3 version more than likely will only sell 1 million if that. Of course they paid to get that exclusive game and I am sure rockstar made it clear that money talks and B.S. Walks.
