Keiji Inafune is a brilliant mastermind. Not only did he create
MegaMan, but he's mulling over the possibility of making a next-gen
Onimusha title,
reviving the amazing MegaMan Legends franchise, and goes on to talk a bit about the changes made in
Resident Evil 5. While every single one of those games deserves their own time in the sun, we're going to squash them together in bullet list form and let you decide who to dote over.
- Inafune wants to make MegaMan Legends 3 awfully bad -- moreso than Onimusha and perhaps RE5, but since management won't give him funding, he has to wait until he climbs the ladder a little more.
- If an Onimusha sequel is created, Inafune wants to go back to actor-based characters instead of the fictional characters from Dawn of Dreams.
- In the same vein, Inafune wants to make an Onimusha with a female lead character, but he's told it would not sell, so it has been denied him these many years! We are sad at hearing this.
- As for Resident Evil 5, light is the new source of fear instead of dark. Inafune and gang (including a good number of people from the defunct Clover studios) want to find ways to utilize light to scare people. How realistically it can be used, etc. It seems like it could work. It's hard to see in a house if you've been out in the blazing desert sun for a few hours. Who knows what lurks within!
We hope Inafune gets more sway in Capcom's happenings, because we want to see some amazing games that we know developers are willing to work on. The above three are probably the ones we're looking forward to the most from Capcom, partially because we don't fully believe they'll be happening anytime soon. It's sad, but true. Which of these three would you love to have fall into your hands tomorrow morning?

i would play onimusha as a girl i don't care that would be genius but not so much on the idea of using actor as chracter that is being a lazy to create new character is genius espically because dawn of dreams was the first onimusha game i was willing to buy.the megaman idea not good megaman has not had a single good game in who knows how long it is always the same side scroll shooter maybe taking it to full 3d might be a good idea but they need to work on making megaman a more badass character that is a must resident evil 5 i won't buy but i am expecting awesome game

re4 was tight all around, even if they just changed setting and story i would buy, so hopefully they go with a 'if it aint broke dont fix it' mentality, im not saying they should not try to improve and add ideas that the gamecube couldnt handle, but a line has to be drawn somewhere.

"Inafune wants to make MegaMan Legends 3 awfully bad."
Haha I read that statement, with the thought that Inafune wanted to make the Megaman Legends 3 game an awfully bad game haha. I was like... HUH?

What a shame they have to be so misogynistic. The Onimusha series could be refreshed with a female lead. The bland leads in the first three got really boring.
Popfrogs @ Jul 31st 2007 6:31PM
Inafune has probably been watching Heavenly Sword development and figured out what a great idea a female lead is. Too bad his bosses (the same jerks that claimed they'd never make RE4 for the PS2) are so damn short sighted.

i don't understand why they don't do a girl character man is it because woman don't have the same rights as men in japan or something i don't know if they do or don't

My take on the list of coolio thangs:
1) Megaman: =S Don't like it, but maybe they could add some kind of new gimmick to the series...
2) Actor-based Onimusha: Yeah, I wouldn't mind this - it's more in keeping with the original ideas behind the series. Let's just hope they choose someone who is kickass!
3) A female lead: =o This is the greatest idea! Actor based and FEMALE!!! Japanese chicks are sooo cute! And being an action based game means SPEED! Yeah, that would be a kickass idea... but they won't let him... damned establishmentarians! ='(
4) Light RE instead of dark RE: I have to tell you, I like the dark, I'm not so much afraid of light as I am of the terminus between light and dark. That being said, the trailers for this game are bright. A little too overdone on the contrast. I wouldn't mind a contrasty game, but DAMN if it doesn't look like it's taking place on the sun... If this game DOESN'T have any real dark places, I doubt it'll be effective at invoking the sense of: "WFT WAS THAT SOUND? Where is that awful sound coming from?... I think I'll turn arou- Aaaahhhgg!" To me, that's RE. =S
So, 2 out of 4 ideas I like. That's 50/50, so, not too shabby! =)

RE5 in the light sounds like a bad idea. Psychologically speaking, there's pretty much nothing scary about "the light". Regardless, they had it right with making the dark scary and there's no GOOD reason to move away from that.
Though I'm betting the game will still kill.

I would take human lives in mass quantities if it would make Mega Man Legends 3 happen. I would hope that they would target the PS3 and not the Wii, just because the PS3 needs games like Legends more than the Wii does.
And I can't wait for RE5. It looks incredible.

I'm really curious what this guy would come up with re: Megaman, on current gen machines.
But isn't that essentially what Ninja Gaiden Sigma is?
I mean, if you bring Megaman to this-gen, you've gotta do the whole 3d-graphic thing.
Or do you?
Maybe... just maybe, when he gets his funding (2008? Anyone?), he can design one of the most brilliant 2d current-gen games ever. And I'm already seeing a 'paper Mario' (don't hate me) possibility, where while Megaman is 2d, he is also 3d, but not by choice, more by, you enter this door and suddenly you're in 3d megaman for whatever adventure you need to be (complete with morphing music and sound fx).
Now, to do this right, he's gotta have a current-gen Castlevania-like 2d experience, but then his 3d experience has to be at the level (production-wise) of Ninja Gaiden Sigma.
This is essentially a tall order to make two hi-tech and hugely resource-draining (but optimally rewarding for the company and the designer) games, in one.
I personally can't wait!

I agree with Popfrogs about this guy's "bosses." I mean, take a gander at the look on his face. This guy made megaman. Perhaps it's time to move away from McDonald's.
Metoo @ Jul 31st 2007 11:56PM
I think what he means is the contrast of light and dark can be very scary, like when Chris comes in from the sun into a hut and the only light source is coming through a few holes in the ceiling, and there's something in the corner he can't quite see because his eyes are still adjusting. Then again, that's darkness, but I think that's what he means.
Rotting zombies look scarier in the sunlight, IMO. You can see every blistering pustule.

another onimusha would be great did anybody see the CG intro in onimusha 2 that was awsome! i loved 3 but 4 kinda let me down in the graphics department and story but it seemed liek a possiblity of another Oni by the ending possibly nobunaga escapes from the gaunlet because he was never truly destroyed by the Oni team.
coplice @ Aug 1st 2007 8:38AM
megaman as a 1st person shooter... sound like metroid but much more fun :p
