Game Critics reward Killzone 2 for graphics, Guerrila devs blush

About all that hype and expectation, Hulst commented that while the 2005 E3 trailer was ambitious, it remained achievable. They fully intend to live up to the promise of the original trailer and will work on the game until they feel it's ready for the public. Since they got an award that only playable games should have been considered for, we also think they're moving on the right track. The final product will undoubtedly look far superior to even the demo we saw at E3 this year.

Good for them. They truly deserve the praise they're getting. I just hope we hear more info on the game at Leipzig or TGS.

I don't think there's going to be THAT dramatic an improvement from the demo - the game is supposed to be out in February. That's six months from now at best, after more than two years of development.
Not that it really matters. The game looks AMAZING as is. Can't wait.

After the lukewarm reception of the first Killzone on PS2, which was unfortunately technically flawed, I personally felt Guerilla had a tremendous amount of talent and creativity. The tech just wasn't there for it to be fully realized.
This game looks to be amazingly immersive, gritty, realistic and damn fun. Furthermore, Stef, the past two years they've spent building an engine and the art assets to build the game, not show off the demo. Likely an an older build due to the nature of playables as well. I have absolutely no reason to think Guerilla couldn't achieve those visuals with the time given to them.
Hell this is a game I wouldn't mind waiting for, even past its 'supposed' release date. When its done, its done right?
ryano @ Aug 4th 2007 5:27PM
don't really see how you can compare Halo and Killzone. they have completly different style and color palettes. one uses the main character to sell the game and the other has the enemy as their poster boy.
i really don't care for Killzone's style but the animation from the trailer was awesome tho! models were very detailed, lighting was sweet, environment textures could use more work, the explosions looked like cheese puffs so i'm sure they'll polish those out.
i need to see more about Killzone in the coming months to get me hooked. it'd be great if they could get keyboard and mouse to work with this, PS3 controller is not suitable for FPSs like 360. Gamecube had the best triggers for an FPS tho...

@Stef
Sony has never said Killzone 2 is gonna be released in February. That was just a guess made by ign. All that's been said is that it's gonna be released in 2008. My guess is the summer, since I'd imagine they would say the game is gonna be released around that time specifically if it's getting released 6 months from now.

The Killzone 2 revelation at E3, should go down as one of the most "I Told You So" moments in gaming.
no, it wasn't 100% like the CGI debut trailer, but it came, at least, 90%, and the battles in the game look far more hectic and frantic than the original trailer.
at first, people were like, "it's never going to come *CLOSE to the CGI! look at Resistance! that's the best the PS3 is ever going to be able to achieve!"
now that it's shown the PS3 is a monster of a graphic's whore, even with the mythical "only 256MB of RAM (i know it's 512 people)," the dissenters have switched tack, and are now like, "well, it didn't look *EXACTLY like it!" and "it's all about the gameplay *ANYWAY!" but let a video of Mass Effect pop up (a game not a single one of us has played, but looks fantastic, nonetheless; i know *I want it), and suddenly that same logic doesn't apply.
the gaming world is a funny, yet often irritating place sometimes.
after highly enjoying Killzone: Liberation, i'm really looking forward to what they do with Killzone 2, and on a console that can handle their ambitious design.
DownwardMonkey @ Aug 4th 2007 6:28PM
Very much looking forward to this.

Me replying:
What? Of course you can compare Killzone and Halo. Killzone is the PS3's equivalent of Halo. And in my opinion, Killzone on the PS2 was better than Halo and Halo 2 anyway, so i've got no doubt Killzone 2 will be better than Halo 3. ''They have different colour paletts''.......and your point is?... What difference does that make?
PS3 controller not good enough??? You've obviously not played a PS3 because the L2 and R2 buttons have been changed and are more like triggers now...
unboring @ Aug 4th 2007 9:06PM
he is just a MSTROLL, subtling trying to crush killzone2's graphically glory. This will be a benchmark setting game, it will put halo in its place and this upsets ryano. Sorry bud, fork the bucks and buy ps3, then youll see the controllers are great, new rumblaxis will be even better, the triggers are awesome. When you get a PS3 ryano, and when you get killzone2, let me know , so I can slaughter you.

You are such a ignorant fanboy and you need to open your eyes.
Ryano was right. You can't compare these games graphically because of the color palette. They strive to do different things. Halo does not have the dark, scary environments that Killzone 2 does. Also Halo 3 does not strive for realism. It doesn't use human characters but rather human ones. How real can you make master Chief look. Also Halo is a more fast paced games so somehthing had to be sacraficed to keep the speed of the game.
MYPS3KilledMy360 @ Aug 5th 2007 12:19AM
i thought killzone was great. if you can see this sony please release KZ on the PSN store $15-$20 remastered like idk KZ HD(like Tekken 5) with all the graphical flaws taken out over all i thought KZ had one of the best graphics for the PS2 without the glitching and helghast screams. i can wait for this game and im pretty sure they will come through on the graphics. Since the PS2 didnt have a hardrive they couldnt fix the KZ glitches like they fixed it on xbox with H2 i could of seen KZ doing better if they did. O since we all have PS3s here why dont they do that now!
secret @ Aug 5th 2007 1:13AM
Killzone 2 upsets ryano because it's THAT good... :)
ryano @ Aug 5th 2007 1:22AM
heh,i actually don't own a next gen console ("so GTFO" right?)
i'm just SUBTLETY pointing out the things they need to improve upon with KZ 2. i never said i was worried that it would crush Halo 3 whatsoever.
i plan on buying both systems when the price is right.
i don't plan on buying Killzone 2 for the same reason why Gears of War never intrested me: Great graphics but the style and theme is not my thing.
and i'm glad the PS3 triggers are nice and springy but you have to admit it: they are not actual gun triggers like the 360 or Gamecube pads. playing Resistance on my cousin's PS3, never felt natural.
so for FPS games on PS3 mouse and keyboard sounds great. =)
Negativecool @ Aug 5th 2007 7:08PM
I hope they work on the AI more instead of going balls out on graphics like they are...Has anyone else noticed how stupid the enemy was in that trailer?
I can see it being the greatest game visually but I fear they will allow it to fall short in AI, which was a major complaint with the first one...I hope not though, go Guerilla!

What are you somking because i want some. Yea you can't compare Halo 3 and Killzone becaue Killzone is trying to look realistic and Halo 3 isnt. Totally different art styles. "Killzone 2 is the PS3's equivalent of Halo 3." WTF?!? If anything it would be MGS 4. "And in my opinion, Killzone on the PS2 was better than Halo and Halo 2 anyway, so i've got no doubt Killzone 2 will be better than Halo 3." LMFAO!! Yea opinion, heres FACT Halo CE and Halo 2 are better then Killzone and Halo 3 is going to blow Killzone 2 out of the water. Halo 1 got game of the year, Halo 2 got good reviwes and broke sales records, and Halo 3 bigger and better then Halo CE or Halo 2, and Halo 3 presales from America only just from Gamestop have topped 5 million, i would like to see Killzone 2 do that.
However I do agree with you on the controller thing. The R2 and L2 buttons are more like triggers now. But i also have to defend ryano because they are not actual gun triggers their more like flaps, but it doesnt make FPS's seem unatural.
Andy @ Aug 5th 2007 9:20PM
360 and PS3 are totally different consoles yet they are always compared.
When I compare Halo and Killzone I think of this.
Killzone can only go up...Halo can only go down.
There is room for improvement in the Killzone franchise. Halo is already at the top of its game.
Who Flang Poo @ Aug 5th 2007 9:39PM
I think youre totally right, but just to clarify are you saying that Halo 2 was the top of Halo's game or that Halo 3 is the top of Halo's game? Because there is no doubts that Halo 3 will be better in campaign, multiplayer, online, and sales.
Darkdrium777 @ Aug 6th 2007 9:36PM
People are so stupid. Just play both of the games (Or none), and shut the hell up with all of your arguing. Honestly, does it really matter to you if one is reviewed better than the other? IMO it doesn't matter, as long as you're enjoying it you're ok.
I'm looking forward to this game, I had a good time with Killzone and Killzone Liberation, I hope it's the same with this one.
