LittleBigPlanet best original new game, say Game Critics

When compared to the reaction they got at the Game Developers Conference, Evans says the two are very different since they put the "create" tools in the hands of knowledgeable gamers this time around. Again, he says, the fact those people understood their vision was a great way to bolster confidence in their ideas. Their ideas are plentiful, it seems, as Evans repeats how what we've seen is pre-alpha code and there's a lot left up their sleeves. We're excited to get our hands on something, so we'll wait until they're ready to show off more of our favorite little big game, LittleBigPlanet.

I am sooooooooo feakin' looking forward to this.
Wayne @ Aug 4th 2007 6:12PM
I would gladly sacrifice Wii and Xbox owners for this game.
Slack @ Aug 4th 2007 6:36PM
OMFG, it's Garry's Mod in a cute package. This game is way to niche to sell. Fortunately for Sony, not a whole lot is coming to the PS3 so every person trying to justify there 500+ purchase will jump on this bandwagon.
Myles @ Aug 4th 2007 6:45PM
Slack your a moron...
RoarrrUK @ Aug 4th 2007 6:48PM
I second that. Slack is indeed a moron.
Bubs @ Aug 4th 2007 7:55PM
I agree , Slack is a moron .
Who Flang Poo @ Aug 4th 2007 8:25PM
Indeed slack is moron, but a moron with a point. If i had more games to play for my PS3 I would not really be interested in this game, but im so desporate for something to play on my PS3 im actually kind of excited. I finaly get use out of my PS3 now that my 360 is being repaired in Texas rite now and will be back in 4 to 6 weeks.
MisterL @ Aug 4th 2007 8:27PM
I agree as well, Slack is a moron. Little Big Planet will be huge, it deserves to be huge, it's revolutionary compared to any other game out there. Everyone should spread news about this game because it deserves to be played. I personally think it will be a great system mover.
Jase @ Aug 4th 2007 9:26PM
I'm not interested in this game, because I have nothing else to play.
I'm interested & excited because it's very much different compared to all the wave after wave of FPS games this year. I actually get to try something I haven't before, this my friends... is my own reason for even grabbing a PS3.
Reason? = Variety.
Oh, and yeah, Slacks a moron... sorta the new phrase around here aye?
hoopty @ Aug 4th 2007 9:39PM
I fourth that, Slack is an idiot. But we can agree that he'll probably get the game and a ps3 because he will jump on the bandwagon after falling off the 360 garbage train.
Vincent060 @ Aug 4th 2007 11:03PM
So it's agreed? Slack is moron?
MYPS3KilledMy360 @ Aug 5th 2007 12:03AM
ditto Slack is a moron!
dont be so hard on him even though hes a moron. anybody over the age of 17 knows whats coming out in 07 and 08. PS3FANBOYS including me have gone down the list of exclusives, timed exclusives, and multiplatform games(even though i think they shouldnt be included on the list) we know whats out there and yes it caters to all gamers needs FPS,MULTIPLATFORMING, RACING, SPORTS, PUZZLES, FIGHTING,BEAT EM UPS AND JUST PLAIN OLD FUN. We know! and that old saying "PS3 HAS NO GAMES" will be put to rest. when ever they ask what games just reply hahhahahahahaha! and move on.
secret @ Aug 5th 2007 1:06AM
How do you play Little Big Planet? I haven't been reading much about it...
rfom @ Aug 5th 2007 1:50AM
wikipedia has an excellent summary of gameplay
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_big_planet
The game features co-operative physics based gameplay, in which the player must overcome obstacles in a stage in order to get to the end. It also places significant emphasis on user-created content within the game, encouraging players to create their own levels and distribute them.
.... each character can jump, move, and grab objects. Grabbing allows a character to pull an object (or another character) in whatever direction they are currently moving. This allows, for example, a chain of players to hang off of a rope when only one character is actually grabbing the rope. Also, it allows a jetpack-equipped player to carry the other players through the sky.
Objects are also made of many different, selectable materials, such as felt, wood, metal or sponge. The materials act realistically, where wood doesn't change shape when you stand on it or grab it, felt "squishes" and deforms. For example, at GDC 2007, the designers pull up a felt tree, a football (supposedly made of leather, an orange and stickers from the selectable menu, nicknamed "Poppit" in a later interview.
The player is also able to move their characters' arms and head by using the control sticks and tilt control respectively.
LittleBigPlanet has integrated content-creation tools for the player. There is no special mode for the player to go into to reach them and, as such, are accessible to the player at all times. These tools enable the player to dynamically place, edit, morph, rotate and interact with objects within the game world. Dynamically reacting physical objects such as springs, ropes, levers, cloth and motors have been seen so far.

slack is a moron
(i was feeling left out)
Irwin @ Aug 5th 2007 8:41AM
lol, why is he a moran
he is just telling the truth
there arn't any games out YET. they are comin, but they arn't out YET.
why is it that in every post on this site the comments section always turns into an anti-360 forum?? lol, don't like people comming in here from the 360 side and telling u something is wrong with it, but all you people do is sit here and insult the 360 in every post. meh
i thought i could come in here to read some comments from insightfull people to see people talk about the topic at hand, not insult the competition..oh well
Vincent060 @ Aug 5th 2007 9:50AM
@Irwin
That is not what he said. He said there are no games coming, not that there are no games out yet.
Plus there are only two comments here that even mentioned the 360. You should see the 360Fanboy site. They take any chance they get to critize the PS3.
Popfrogs @ Aug 5th 2007 1:42PM
This game will be awesome. When's the last time you played user-created content on a console?
How does *never* sound?
And to the guy with the broken 'e' key (yes it's spelled aren't), we just defend our console of preference on our turf. We don't even talk about the X360 until some stupid kid comes in and starts flaming.
Stephan Slack @ Aug 5th 2007 4:16PM
Ooofv... my bad. I meant not a whole lot has been coming to the PS3 recently. Or, at least not a whole lot to justify purchasing one. You could say it's just me, but than again, look at the sales numbers.
And me being frustrated by the amount of publicity this game is getting just annoys me. When you spend %60 retail for this game, remember to e-mail me @ ofstephan@yahoo.com and tell me how much your still playing the game.
Consolcwby @ Aug 5th 2007 11:01PM
=o
...did he just give out an email address?...
(Slack really IS a moron... and a well spammed one at that!)
unboring @ Aug 6th 2007 7:21PM
@ Irwin, nobody in this thread is bashing the 360, we are bashing slack for coming in and flaming about a ps3 game that he is upset is getting alot of attention. It won best original game, because it is an original game.
@ slack
#1 sales have in my opinion been good considering that ps3 was released a year after 360, and at its high price point and limited game selection still managed to reach almost 6 million to date. Keep in mind that the coming onslaught of original and graphically beautiful (killzone2, heavenly sword, haze, mgs4, gt, home, LBP, ect. ect.) will increase console sales dramatically. The power of the ps3 and its processor are just now being realized and the bluray drive and native hdd justified, the reliability of the system (less the 1%) compared to "other" consoles that are defective and poorly constructed is also realized and recieving bad press coverage, and the bluray hddvd battle is favoring bluray.
Also mr. slack , please remember the 120m install base of ps2's and there eventual conversion to ps3 sales. The ps3 and this console war is in its early early stage and we will see ps3 sales start to gain serious momentum this fall and holiday season and on through 2008. Whilst other systems have attainted there maximum performance alot of developers believe ps3 has alot more to give, power that is beginning to be realized in upcoming titles.
Also mr. Slack on your comment
"And me being frustrated by the amount of publicity this game is getting just annoys me. When you spend %60 retail for this game, remember to e-mail me @ ofstephan@yahoo.com and tell me how much your still playing the game." is what gets me the most.
Do you understand why this was names "best original new game"? Do you know the term game 3.0?
The magic of this game is that players will NOT get bored playing it, because as the game is launched with probably 30-50 levels for play, the game within months will have thousands of levels, all with awesome themes and new things to discover. Because the game empowers the players to totally design the levels and also the baddies within the levels. The extended playability of this game is essentially infinite. Your comment truly demonstrates your lack of knowledge, your biased reaction to positive press on the ps3, and your understanding or lack there of gaming culture and the future of gaming culture in general. Game 3.0 is something sony is embracing with indy games like everyday shooter, mmvw's like home, online music downloads and expansion in singstar and games like LBW.
I think the originality in these titles, the variety, innovative efforts like home, and an ever growing lineup of graphically superior games like killzone2. As well as the 4:1 ps2 vs xbox install bases. These things will determine the eventual outcome of this console war. with less then 30m units sold between all 3 major consoles it is far far far to early to make any calls. MSBOTS have a bad habit of doing this. I just thought id give my 2 cents.
