If you've been itching for some
Gran Turismo 5 news to gawk at, let us direct you to a
thread over at NeoGAF. Not only are there a lot of great screenshots from the official website, but user Doctor_No took it upon himself (or herself!) to translate the latest Famitsu interview with Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi. We'll detail the finer points below, but all of them are worth looking over.
- GT5 will be playable at Leipzig, where multiple online features will also be announced.
- GT5 Prologue will be Home compatible!
- While called Prologue, Yamauchi says there will be options to make money, buy cars, etc.
- In the final build, there are ambitions to let you walk around a "town" and look at cars. We imagine this means your Home avatar checking out other people's GT5 cars.
- GT5 Prologue will have 40 cars and 4 tracks, totaling 8 configurations.
- If you use a steering wheel for the game, you can look around the cockpit in cockpit view by moving around the D-Pad. Nice.
- In the full game of Gran Turismo 5, you can fully customize the interior of the car.
- Right now, 16 cars are in each race, but in online modes, the number may shrink to 12.
- Any money, cars, etc. you earn in GT5 Prologue will be able to transfer over to the full Gran Turismo 5.
Wow! This really seems like an ambitious title, so we're salivating to get our hands on the game as soon as possible.
GT5 Prologue is rumored to launch on October 24th, so we'll wait until around then.

I cant wait for this game. Puts the other racing games to bed...Well, except BurnOut. I cant wait for that game neither!

I've never been into GT so somebody help me out. So I buy the Prologue, which is already a reasonably sized game, then I buy the game again when the full version is out? Is there some deal where the Prologue is cheaper or having the Prologue gives you some deal on buying the full version later on? I'm all for transferring in-game money between GT5P and GT5, but how about letting me transfer the real money I spent between the two also?
Juney @ Aug 5th 2007 5:28PM
@upz
Prologue is Free lolz
upz @ Aug 5th 2007 6:40PM
Seriously? If so, that is some great news. I'm still uncertain on it though, since every Sony exec shouted from the top of every hill that GTHD was going to be Sony's free gift to PS3 owners last Christmas - special emphasis on the "free." This time around though, we haven't heard Phil, Jack, or any of the other talking heads mention whether this will be a free download. Was GT4 Prologue free? If so, we might be able to assume the same for this one.
kman79 @ Aug 5th 2007 6:49PM
NICEEE!
All this is good news to me. I like how your efforts in Prologue are credited in the full game. The cockpit features are very nice to have. Maybe the game could at least be on level for my expectations.
kman79 @ Aug 5th 2007 6:57PM
Nope Prologue was not free when it was released, and I believe it was only a Japan release and was not offered stateside
derrickgott007 @ Aug 5th 2007 7:17PM
Please start deleting all the bullshit FIRST threads and ban them from making comments. Their childish contest crap has no place here.
Andy @ Aug 5th 2007 8:55PM
You know what would be a nice touch for the in car camera, every once in a while a bug gets smeared on the windshield and you can use wipers to scrape it off.
Jon @ Aug 5th 2007 9:01PM
@Andy
That would be a funny addition, like in 'Carmageddon' and 'Die Hard 3' where you wipe the blood and corpses off the windscreen. Classic.
ryan @ Aug 5th 2007 9:25PM
the in car view with the steering wheel is definitely a nice feature.
i wonder if it can be added to the regular controller like hold r2 trigger so you can look around with the stick or d-pad. this would take control off steering for a moment, but in real life we don't switch lanes while looking around anyway...
IceReign @ Aug 5th 2007 9:45PM
They already said that its not going to be free and it is coming to the states.
Bangbang... @ Aug 5th 2007 9:50PM
"In the full game of Gran Turismo 5, you can fully customize the interior of the car."
This is the kind of stupid needless feature that gets me excited lol.
*Im not being sarcastic, I really do think its cool to allow that level of customization.
Consolcwby @ Aug 5th 2007 10:08PM
I still want to wreck the cars! GT5 has gotta have the damage modeling for me to invest in it, or else I'll just keep playing my GT4.
Gotta have something new in each generation - HD is nice, but I wanna crash and burn. ='(
DarkJC @ Aug 5th 2007 10:18PM
So you're telling me you'll stick to a SD, last generation game with no online mode and crappier physics, no in car view and a bunch of other new stuff they're adding to the game just because there's no damage?
That didn't seem to stop you from buying GT4, seems idiotic not to buy GT5. Damage would be nice, but I don't think it's the make or break people are sensationalizing it to be.
UltimateNinja9 @ Aug 5th 2007 10:33PM
I'm glad that there's no damage. i don't want every race to feel like a license test.
Neil @ Aug 5th 2007 10:58PM
I just hope they focus on the racing experience. GT4 was just such a let down, and no I'm not saying it was bad, but it was very lacking. I mean what’s the point of winning a DTM car when there are no DTM races? The rolling starts are just a lame way to give the worthless computer controlled cars a helping hand. The dirt rally tracks felt like you were driving on a frozen lake covered in an oil spill...and please oh please tell me what's the point winning cars....ah I mean horseless carriages?
Gran Turismo and Metal Gear are the two main reasons why I bought a PS3 over the 360 and I'm really hoping GT5 will be awesome, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried.
MYPS3KilledMy360 @ Aug 6th 2007 12:09AM
why by a sim if you just want to crash and burn thats what burnouts for. also why would they sell a demo?
Consolcwby @ Aug 6th 2007 2:38AM
@DarkJC: Yep. My friend actually swapped me the game after he got sick of GT4. I swapped him the Shadow King game after beating it twice, so it was a good deal. I promised myself I wouldn't get another GT game unless it was capable of doing some of the same things that the old Papyrus racing sims used to do - like damage modeling. I'd even buy it if they allowed decal/skinning cars, but it seems that damage modeling would (should) be the next step in my favorite racing series. As far as the online mode goes - I can deal without having it for now. Physics, on the other hand, I would like - but not for $60...
@UltimateNinja9: Having played the old Papyrus racing sims on the PC, I can tell you that changes in handling over long races is one of the things that GT lacks - as well as needed pitstops. Tire wear, panel damage, and fuel consumption made that game a strategic racer. GT claims to be a sim, and I love sims - especially trying to plan a race out and making race making/breaking decisions on the fly. It's one of the reasons why I bought GT1, 2, and 3 - it was the best sim on the market for a console at the time. Now, unfortunately, GT seems to be about the amount of cars in the game instead of the simulation aspect (re: GT4). =( I love the GT series, but I am needing more!
@Neil: You're right. I bought a PS3 for MGS4. FF13, AND GT5. I'm just disappointed with the feature set in the series. It DEFINATELY needs more racing options and simualtion aspects to remain as the PREMIER console racing sim. Pretty HD graphics notwithstanding.
@MYPS3KilledMy360: Yes, but Burnout isn't a simulation. It's an arcade racer/crash tester. =D I love my Burnout, but I would like the simulation aspects of racing to be more honest and realistic, especially on the strategic side. Crashing and burning is just one aspect of racing - making that kind of fatal mistake would be a set back (and rightfully so), but would make the player drive more carefully and use the damage modeling to one's advantage, particularly rubbing and nudging to get past the leader! I've loved GT in the past, but it needs to LEAD the crowded racing field again, not just be one of many in the pack.
azezaroo @ Aug 6th 2007 7:01AM
what is up with the mirrors on that pic D:
never$$hort @ Aug 6th 2007 1:55PM
I wouldn't worry about it guys... GT5 will be good, I mean, it better be, they're taking long enough to make it. Not that I'm complaining about the time, but it better be good, polished, control nicely and please us in all other aspects of what we expect from GT5...
kman79 @ Aug 6th 2007 4:51PM
In my opinion having damage would not make or break this game. I'd rather have them get damage right, than have a half assed implementation of it, which if they do implement it at this point in development, it would probably be very poor and disappointing. The damage in Forza 2 while it looks cool, is not very accurate. I've been crashed into at speeds where the car should be mangled and definitely out of the race, yet it still is able to go on at ridiculous speeds. That's not what I want, if you're gonna do damage feature on a sim, then do it right.
I do understand the want and the need for part degradation and equipment/part failure, as well as gas calculation/consumption, all of which would be a welcomed feature.
I don’t think PD has announced the full feature list, so some of what you guys are wanting could be on the game.
Also, Prologue is not a demo per se, it’s more of a Mini game. It’s too long to be a Demo and how many demos do you know offer that many cars and tracks?
EvilWalksWithMe @ Aug 6th 2007 4:59PM
Why buy a console for two games that aren't even out yet? You should have just got the xbox NOW for games that ARE out and the ps3 later when the two games you want are actually available?
I own both consoles... and i love them both. Each has it's bonuses.
SolidsS @ Aug 6th 2007 11:00PM
nobody wants to play your crappy Fordza Game! so stop promoting it on "ps3fanboy.com" you cant just go around and say you should do this and you should do that its unethical
Consolcwby @ Aug 7th 2007 10:42AM
@EvilWalksWithMe: I didn't get a 360 because I don't want to go through having to send the stupid thing back to MS or deal with anymore tech support personel. =P
