Following last week's
Spartan-tastic release list, this week seems a little boring. Sure we get a couple of CG movies that should look gorgeous in 1080p, but considering they are the new revisioning of the
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the God awful
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, it's kind of a bust. Here's the full list:
- TMNT
- Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
- Disturbia
- Arlington Road
- Are We Done Yet?
Disturbia and
Arlington Road were suppose to be pretty good, but
Are We Done Yet? is only interesting as a side note to Ice Cube's increasingly pathetic career. So not that amazing of a release list this week, but to make up for it -- we have a tasty little rumor via our friends at
Blu-ray.com. Sony Europe has released an 'unofficial' calender of upcoming Blu-ray titles and they have both
Kill Bill movies listed as a September 2nd releases with
Pulp Fiction coming the next day. This is still in Rumorville for now, with no official confirmation of a US release, but what a sweet rumor it is.
"Who's Zed?"
"Zed's dead, baby."

JL @ Aug 6th 2007 4:32PM
I did too michael
Hobbes @ Aug 6th 2007 4:33PM
TMNT was surprisingly good and the animation was awesome. Final Fantasy is awesome for what it is and the groundbreaking human like animation. I'm buying TMNT tomorrow. The reviews for TMNT (7 out of 10 at IMDB) were not bad at all. Guess not everybody agrees with this blog.

I think "God Awful" is a little strong... it wasn't good, no... but I still like it artistically speaking. It just lacks plot and good direction. Gotta love the CG though, still to this day the best ever.
JL @ Aug 6th 2007 4:44PM
When does Advent Children come out on Blu Ray?
kingofwale @ Aug 6th 2007 4:44PM
Arlington Road is one of my favourite movies of all time, and Disturbia is fantastic as well.
but the question is... should I get it or should I save my money for the likes of Pirates, Spidy3 and Transformers in the next few months.
Stef Geiger @ Aug 6th 2007 4:54PM
No, Arlington Road wasn't supposed to be very good - http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/arlington_road/. That's 59%, which puts it a just shy of being OK.
I remember a lot of controversy around this one's release because apparently the previews ruined it.
money_mike_preme @ Aug 6th 2007 10:52PM
i guess its all on your tastes cuz im gunna buy arlington road and Final Fantasy. Arlington Road rocks booty (especially with the remix of Lunatic Calm's "Neon Ray" during the titles at the beginning)
Spazgadget @ Aug 6th 2007 6:33PM
Count another one here who actually liked Final Fantasy. Never really understood what all the animosity was about over this film, it was if nothing else a technological marvel.
KosmoCrisis @ Aug 8th 2007 1:48AM
Really...TMNT? Is anyone actually gonna buy this?
Kxpuc @ Aug 6th 2007 6:41PM
I'll fall for the Spirts Within trap again
DownwardMonkey @ Aug 7th 2007 5:20AM
I was hoping TMNT would be a BD realise.
Conman @ Aug 6th 2007 8:18PM
Wow. Never realized it was so widely accepted that Spirits Within sucks. I always thought it was remarkable for being a FF plot that actually *makes sense*.
Consolcwby @ Aug 6th 2007 9:49PM
But I liked Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within! =(
It makes me sad seeing that no one besides Michael K., JL, Hobbes, Spazgadget, Conman, and (if I read him correctly) Kxpuc. That's only 70% of the posters here so far... Get with it, Colin, some of us actually THINK for ourselves, instead of going along with the crowd... like sheep. So, BAH to your opinion! =P

You know what what they call a chesse Burger in Paris?(P.S.PLEASE GOD ALMIGHTY RELEASE KILL BILL AND PULP FICTION ON BLU RAY THIS YEAR, AND SIN CITY WOULDN'T HURT ETHER!)
Mark J @ Aug 7th 2007 2:27AM
Add me to the list of those who enjoyed FF. Think most of the bad feeling towards the film came from the fact that it bore no relation to the games.
People were expecting something like Advent Children all those years ago (and I think that AC makes even less sense than Spirts Within, and the voice overs are too quiet lol).
Still amazes me how good the animation in it is! Just ordered it!
MisterL @ Aug 7th 2007 4:38AM
I'm one of the minority that liked Spirits Within too! I thought it was a pretty decent movie. I was kind of sad that it didn't have any cameos of FF characters (besides naming a random dude Cid) or more action scenes. It was still a passably enjoyable experience for me.
coplice @ Aug 7th 2007 8:11AM
Spirit Within was really well done back then, anyone remember if it was directly released on DVD or it was show in movie theater? i cant remember, it suck that FFVII wasnt show in theater ;;
for the one that asked when FFVII release on BR, i read this fall for Japan
Naaiif @ Aug 7th 2007 9:41AM
Well the reason Spiurits Within got shit on so much was that it was massively hyped, not just by FF fans, but by a significant chunk of the gaming community. Also it saw a pretty big cinema release.
It didn't sit well with the casual audience because the CG looked realistic, but some of the animations looked really weird, and achieved the uncanny valley effect. As well as the plot not making that much sense.
It got discarded by the FF fan base because it had nothing to do with the games. So therefore - hardly anyone liked it. Personally i didn't think it was THAT good, but as a stand alone film, it's a lot better than Advent Children - which is really just a chain of really cool fight sequences mixed together.
boltu222 @ Aug 7th 2007 10:47AM
I think the FF movie was good but not so much as an FF movie but more as a stand alone. In the end no one can says its not FF cos truth be told FF is whatever Square want it to be.
axxa @ Aug 7th 2007 11:51PM
Xoonaka is spot on... FF/TSW is artisticly strong. That said, it's easy to overlook the weaknesses in plot and direction.
