Crysis for PS3? New evidence surfaces - we're not yet convinced

Oldmike, a user on the PlayStation 3 official forum, has posted a couple of photographs which, he believes, indicates that a PS3 version of Crysis is on its way. There's a fun wee story that goes along with the photos, too. Whilst in a local Gamestop oldmike spotted a PS3 box with some Crysis promo art on it. When he asked about it the manager overheard and, after getting flustered, yelled at the shop assistant that they shouldn't be on the shop floor yet. Alledgedly.

An intriguing story, with interesting photos attached. We're still not convinced, however. Shops do crazy stuff all the time (HMV, anyone?). We love the idea that Crysis might be coming in the future, but until official word comes from Crytek then we're going to remain skeptical.

Well maybe announcement at Leipzig? Anyway, it would be cool if it is true but dont those covers usually have the "coming soon" on the top corner? or is it the bottom?

Haha yeah this is a pretty horrible attempt and a pretty horrible story to boot.

I'd love for Crysis to be on PS3 as much as the next guy, but somehow I know more than 100% that it's not going to happen. Then again my >100% predictions have been wrong =P.

At least my MGS4 exclusivity one was right lol.

of course it's just some random cover (not official), ebgames/gamestop do it all the time but the interesting part is that they done one for the PS3.

I like how they don't even try to include "PLAYSTATION 3" along the side or put the ESRB rating.

If this person made fake money...they would be caught very quickly.

TheSh0wstopper, it is common practice for a games shop to put up their own made cases promoting a game that is up for preorder.

However, it would take an impossible amount of stupidity to believe this story as a confirmation of Crysis on PS3. So even though you made yourself sound like a pompous arse by attacking the reporter, you're correct that it is blatantly fake.

Like anything else, I'm going to take this as a ball of fluff until it's officially confirmed.

Yeah... keep on hoping. Even if it does come to the ps3, it's going to be chopped down from what we've seen quite a bit graphically.

To the guy's defense, and what a lot of you probably don't even notice to begin with, is that most preoder boxes they have at shops are either empty cases with crappy printed inserts, or they are cardboard fold-em-up boxes the size of game cases.

The crappy printed ones stuck into actual cases are usually not official and lack the "Playstation 3" logo down the side, as well as the 360 strip across the top. That could very well be what this guy found. Some store that got word of Crysis coming and decided to go ahead and make their crappy boxes to promote preorders, so the minute it's announced they can just stick them on the coming soon shelf.

It's also worth mentioning that there has been an interview with Crytek on some inconspicuous website for a long time now, with the developer(s) talking about their CryEngine2 being created from the ground up for PC-to-PS3/360 porting, with each "subengine" having it's own parameters (openGL es for PS3 and DX9 for 360) with the ability for them to create/test on PC and then export the game assets to each of the consoles.

Yes, this doesn't mean CRYSIS per se, and could mean FarCry2, but Crytek has been playing the usual shy/dodgey Assassin's Creed/DMC4/Bioshock game for a while now, so it's pretty much a "no fucking duh" scenario here that they are doing something on 360/PS3 they don't want us knowing about.

All you have to do now is take out the coming soon print, go to that other forum and post you have the first copy of Crysis for the PS3. That would spread through the game forums like fire. You will be a celebrity :)

This doesn't mean anything. All this guy did was take a PS3 case of an existing game and replace the cover with a print out of a Crysis wallpaper. I could do that too.

How are some of you guys getting on PS3FB for this post? It's hilarious and welcome in my book. Gotta love reading people argue over images like this. Juicy rumors are what give an otherwise dull day some spice, even if the subject matter is blatantly fake.

Gotta admit even the idea of crysis on ps3 brings chills.

If I hadn't bought a ps3 and an HDTV I would've built a super rig for crysis, so stuff like this is fun.
