Lair box art swoops down from the heavens

Sony has just released the official box art for Lair, and it's looking pretty hot (no pun intended). Featuring the armored mug of Rhon, the main character, glaring off into the distance while a battlefield of guys get the marshmellow-in-campfire treatment, it's got classic look to it.
Interestingly, the game got a Teen rating -- which seems a bit low for a title that rewards in roasting people alive. But whatever, as long as the game isn't being made by Rockstar, nobody cares.

'But whatever, as long as the game isn't being made by Rockstar' HERE HERE! nice box art, the trailers for this game didn't really impress me tho, maybe the gameplay will be worthwhile, a demo would be nice.

supposedly the delay of this game was because EGM slammed it?
how bad did they see it?
Bax @ Aug 7th 2007 9:33AM
The 3 EGM editors gave it a 6 and basically said the game looked amazing but was boring and the controls buggy.
DownwardMonkey @ Aug 7th 2007 10:49AM
I've been worried about this game since I saw the new demo on the PSN. Maybe I'm wrong though, so we'll see.

Coming from X3F, this looks DAMN good.
Popfrogs @ Aug 7th 2007 11:12AM
This is gonna be a rental first. I learned my lesson from COD3 already.
J_Swayze @ Aug 7th 2007 11:22AM

So far the reviews have ranged from EGM's suckfest to Play's 9/10 thing of beauty. Oh yeah, and the third so far has been one right in the middle from Gamepro. I love how one low score has been enough for the haters to go ahead and pan the game; the Play score was just a fluke. Interesting thing is, Play seems to be the only review that was based upon actually having played the (then) gold build...
Although I'm still quite annoyed about the delay and have so many other games I want to play, this just looks like fun to me and refuses to fall of my BUY ME list. I'm probably in the same boat as TheSh0wstopper. I lovered me some Panzer Dragoon back in the day, first game I got for my Saturn.

well, it's going to play similar to the Rouge Leader games: fly around do some missions repeat (i was hoping for a more fluid dragon based RPG). the EGM reviews on an average gave it a 5.5. one reviewer did give it a 6.0 which is average.
when i see this game i think "ZOMG the graphics are awesome!" then i see the dragon doin his thing and ...ZZZZZ....
it just looks boring ground combat especially. i wouldn't be surprised if the game at most gets an 8.5. but that's cool.
much more looking forward to Assassin's Creed, Rachet and Clank Halo 3 Mass Effect and Uncharted...when I get either a 360 or PS3 that is.

Lair, Warhawk, and Heavenly Sword's covers look great, especially Heavenly Sword. But what is up with Ratchet and Clank? Sony needs to fix it now!

I guess it was just me who for some reason when I see this box art I am reminded of the movie "The Rocketeer"

I have my copy of EGM right here (I was subscribed to OPM when it bit the dust!) and I'll tell you guys what it says:
Crispin: 6.0G Average
Ford 5.5 Average
Garnett: 5.0 Average
Lair
What A Drag
THE GOOD: Graphics, the sea-snakes boss
THE BAD: Confusing gameplay, the final boss is...a building?
LISTEN UP, RICH AV BUFFS: Lair supports 7.1 HDMI recievers
Crispen said that the game offered nonstick motion control and a confusing combat system. He kept overshooting targets because of the Sixaxis control, and the lock-on system sent his dragon in random directions. He says that the frequent midmission cinemas even made him disoriented. To conclude he says: "Buy this game if you want to justify all the thousands you spent on your PS3 and that 1080p HDTV you can see from orbit. Don't buy it if you want a dragon that does what it's told."
G. Ford said that the ground combat left him combating the camera instead, and that it's easier to hover and strafe the foot soldiers. He ends by saying that the wide open levels open up Lair's potential, but is not a regular occurence.
Garnett said that it's a cliche riddled Lord of the Rings reinterpretation of Star Wars, and he hates not having a radar in the game (he says it's only an arrow). He concludes by saying that some of the battles have a few "wow" moments, but otherwise it's frustrating.
FYI: This is the same issue which has given Dynasty Warriors: Gundam a 6.5 5.5 and 5.0, Blue Dragon a 6.5 7.5 and 6.5, yet gives Mario Strikers Charged 7.5, 7.5, and 7.5, and a nearly 20 PAGE PREVIEW OF Halo 3! And a two page writeup on Stranglehold, which fails to mention anything about Hard Boiled being on the PS3 deluxe version... O.o So they must be fair and balanced, right?... o.O
A Prediction: The review for Heavenly Sword is coming out next month, here are the scores I believe EGM will give it (seeing their PS3 reviews now for the last 8 months): 7.5, 6.0, 4.5 - There! You heard it here FIRST! Hahahah *cry* =S

for the last 8 months PS3 games have sucked in general with only a few key titles. any site you look to can tell you this. games ported over have sucked as well due to developers lack of understanding.
why the hell would EGM cover Hard Boiled being exclusive. it has nothing to do with the game unlike the 360's exclusive behind the scenes making of Strangle Hold.
Halo 3 is a game that is very popular and when exclusive information comes to a game magazine you bet your ass they will cover it. also you failed to mention that EGM's GOTM was Persona 3 scoring 8.5-9.5. a game that is a last gen PS2 game and is very niche.
it sounds fair and balanced to me.
