What does 75 PlayStation 3s get you?
Why, a huge amount of official Warhawk dedicated servers -- of course! In the most recent post at the official PlayStation.Blog, the game director of Warhawk, Dylan Jobe, posted pictures of their Ranked Servers data center and talked about online/server details for their upcoming Sixaxis-friendly title.
According to Dylan, they have PS3 clusters like the one above scattered all over the world to make sure you you have access to a fast, latency free server -- no matter where you live. Also, since you can host your own servers, even if you don't find an official server you like, it shouldn't be hard to find a player server that fits what you're looking for.
Players can create their own dedicated Warhawk servers for up to 32 players at once, but they won't be able to play on their PS3 while the server is running (to longtime PC gamers, this is nothing new). Players can also create their own servers that they can play in for up to 24 players at once, offering a ton of flexibility for clans and hardcore players. Between ecstatic previews, an accessible price point and strong server support, Warhawk is looking more and more like it could be a major hit. Only three more weeks until the Game Drought of Summer is over!
[Thanks everybody!]

JL @ Aug 8th 2007 3:45PM
If that pic is accurate, there are 90, not 60.
Shadowblade @ Aug 8th 2007 3:52PM
JL they didn't say that there 60 servers, but how 60 ps3 gets u a lot of servers. Can wait
Bob.Davey @ Aug 8th 2007 3:53PM
I would be very surprised if this game was a hit. It is fun for the first 2 hours or so, but it just doesn't have lasting appeal.
Slaytan @ Aug 8th 2007 3:56PM
Warhawk is like Battlefield 2 with easier to control planes...what's not to like???
ill trooper @ Aug 8th 2007 4:05PM
FOLDING MONSTER!
Popfrogs @ Aug 8th 2007 4:17PM
@Bob.Davey: You say that, but unless you've participated in the Beta, you can't really know. Every one of the beta testers I've talked to have said it's awesome. 4 player simultaneous split screen means it'll be a fun party game also.
a.j. @ Aug 8th 2007 4:28PM
i got in on the last round of beta invites and loved the game. maps are big, flying is fun and the combat was great. should be a fun summer.
Ste @ Aug 8th 2007 4:51PM
@4, Bob.Davey
There's (many, many) people on the Beta with over 80hrs played. ;)
Stef Geiger @ Aug 8th 2007 4:51PM
This game is DAMN fun and probably has the most depth a multiplayer game can have without being an MMORPG.
Regardless, I think even the online price is too much. I would pay $30 CDN for it, which is like $28 USD. I'm not going to shell out $50 or $80 (which is probably what the Canadian prices will be).
Andy @ Aug 8th 2007 4:53PM
I was really hoping for up to 32 vs 32 but I can easily settle for 16 vs 16.
I can't connect to my PS3 online anymore and it sucks.
Parker @ Aug 8th 2007 4:55PM
That is awesome.
I had a blast in the beta and I cannot wait to play the final product.
KeVil @ Aug 8th 2007 5:03PM
Ok if we're being anal about it.... there's 15 consoles per cabinet...the pic shows 6 cabinets... That'd be 90 consoles... but the last cabinet is missing a console or two... Now the cabinets look as though they hold one on the front and one on the back...but the back is missing the top console... I'd guess there's around 172 consoles there(88 on the front, 84 on the back) That equates to a lot of money...and me spending way too much time on this

I'm a beta tester and this game is amazing to say the least. I've been looking forward to it over every other 2007 release for the PS3. It DOES NOT lose any lasting appeal at all. In fact, the better you get, the more fun it becomes. I came home every night wanted to play it as much as the 1st day I got into the beta. This game will be a hit and I suggest everyone buy it.
phattie @ Aug 8th 2007 5:46PM
They should give you rewards for putting your console on "server mode"... maybe a free psn download or something. Your reward would be based on the number of games played.
Dave @ Aug 8th 2007 5:51PM
This just in. Warhawk is being delayed till 2008. It seems the company that designed the game realized they had more PS3s dedicated to the server than the general public even owns. Sorry guys!
SteveMB @ Aug 8th 2007 6:16PM
I counted 75 PS3's on the last 5 racks. I don't think the rack on the left has PS3's.

This game is definitely going to get purchased day one! Between this, Lair, and Heavenly Sword this fall, I am going to be going in hibernation mode early.
KeVil @ Aug 8th 2007 7:25PM
@SteveMB: You may be right about the last rack
Darkdrium777 @ Aug 8th 2007 7:50PM
He is right.
Good to see that Sony is making quality servers all around the world.
MYPS3KilledMy360 @ Aug 8th 2007 9:25PM
Andy maybe i can help state your problem and ill help. i had the same problem too but i fixed it. wow can they pack them so close like that.
MCX @ Aug 8th 2007 9:34PM
They must have a lot of confidence in the PS3 to make them servers. Bet they wouldn't trust the ring of death machine.
Darren Tilley @ Aug 8th 2007 10:14PM
Microsoft were going to do the same thing for Halo3, but they only have a 30% guaranteed uptime.
Joey_Numbers @ Aug 9th 2007 5:21AM
This game will prolly run real smooth. I don't even get hiccups when I'm on RFOM.
RPGJock @ Aug 9th 2007 11:15AM
The drought ends next week for me because Madden will keep me busy way into October before I go looking for another title. I may pick this up when I want to shoot something instead of running for daylight.
UltimateNinja9 @ Aug 10th 2007 1:32AM
That room is probably hot as hell!
