SOE: All our MMOs in development have a console component
Sony Online Entertainment has been responsible for some of the most popular MMO games ever. The studio behind Everquest (1 and 2), Planetside, Vanguard and a host of other massively multiplayer games has recently unveiled a new lineup of titles, including Gods & Heroes, The Agency, Free Realms, and the just-announced Ramayan 3392 A.D (see above image). Though only The Agency has been announced for the PlayStation 3, Nicholas Beliaeff recently tossed a bucket of gasoline on the rumor fire that we may be getting a couple more massively massive games on the PS3.
When asked by Gamasutra if SOE is looking more seriously at console MMOs, Nicholas said, "Absolutely. We have EverQuest Online Adventures that came out on the PS2 four years ago, and that was one of the first, along with Final Fantasy XI, to be a console MMO. For us as a company moving forward, all of our MMOs in development have a console component."
It's the last line that is the most exciting to us, it strongly indicates that SOE is going to be supporting the PSN in a big, BIG way. While this isn't as big as say, an announcement that Warcrack is coming to the PS3 -- the acknowledgment that every MMO that SOE makes from now on will appear on the PS3 is pretty amazing. So ... which SOE MMO do you want?

Wow, that's quite some leap you just made there... hope you have a safety net.

Your excitement might be completely unwarranted depending on what he means by "console component." Doesn't necessarily mean there'll be a console version of all of them.
And to answer your question: which SOE MMO do you want? None. But that's mostly because I don't know much of anything about them yet. I played EQoA and enjoyed that quite a bit though.

I'd love to see EQ2 on the PS3, and that DC Comics MMO SOE is supposed to be working on.
No matter how you feel about SOE, more games on the PS3 is a good thing.
Dahk @ Aug 9th 2007 10:46PM
Gods & Heroes actually looks kinda interesting, so we'll see when its out for PC what happens with that, and then i'll look into getting a PS3 version whenever SOE decides to shoot that out into the market =P.
Lol @ warcrack.

When I tried to replace my HD I stripped the screws.
Anyone have a good method to unscrew stripped screws?
Anyone know how much the metal plate costs to replace?
or should I take it to the place where I bought the 120 GB hd and see if they can help?
The agency could be the coolest game ever, I can't wait!!!

Ugh, why does everyone strip the screws? Just take a very tiny drill bit and carefully drill them out. Replace them with kite string or something you won't strip next time. ;)

Would love a SWG that doesn't turn into a KOTOR orgy.

I'd like a ps3 star wars galaxies. dc comics sounds cool too, though.
Dahk @ Aug 10th 2007 12:53AM
Lol @ Andy, I totally skimmed over that.
Yeah it seems Sony is looking to acquire Rockstar. But Take Two took a lot of effort to get that going right. So who knows what'll happen. All this is just speculation for now =P Won't affect GTAIV anyway, especially since Microsoft shot out 50 mill =P.

Planetside!!!!

Love me some truthiness, but it was LucasArts' push for the 'New Experience' in Star Wars Galaxies. They weren't pleased with the sales and direction, so they threw it all away for the sake of a boosted userbase.
It backfired, naturally.
What Sony Online Entertainment did mess with its userbase was PlanetSide. That poor, bastard shotgun.

Everquest, Planetside, and Star wars Galaxies.

Don't worry, SOE is screwing over Vanguardians too. The game was on the track to being unique until SOE got a hold of it. Now it's turning into a rebadged EQ2. I kind of wish the performance issues that were around during it's launch weren't there so Sigil still had control over the direction of the game.
Valarious @ Aug 10th 2007 9:35AM
SOE actually saved Vanguard. Vanguard was its own company created seperatly from SOE. The Vanguard team screwed the game from the beginning by releasing it before it was ready. Anyone who played the game at launch can tell you the bugs were horrible. The game has not changed from what it was originaly created for. They just have the money behind it to develop it properly with SOE owning it now.
OrganicShadow @ Aug 10th 2007 12:21PM
K, yay, awesome, great....
Now give me some non-fantasy/rpg MMO games so I can be a nerd too! Can't be using potions, rushing ogres, flippin' tapes n' drinkin' mah sip....

Yeah, I'd love to see PS on the PS3, but they're going through a server merge at this point so that's never a good sign I guess. Plus, I think they only have about 5 developers working on the game and no artists - which is why they continually release modifications of weapons and not new ones.
Andir3.0 @ Aug 10th 2007 6:59PM
@Valarious: the bugs were not horrible. I beta tested the game. Believe me. Sigil was not responsible for releasing it to early. SOE forced them to a set release date when Brad and Co. said all along (when it was under Sigil control) that the game would not release until it was ready.
I seriously think when SOE got ahold of Vanguard publishing they new what the next few steps were. Force Sigil to release it early, the sales numbers were bound to drop with the lag and performance issues. After they drop, offer to buy Brad out and take over rights to the game. It's copybook. Now, they go in and strip out any individuality Vanguard has (starting with the removal of EE, and the addition of raid only content..) and you turn the game into another EQ2. Pathetic. They got an MMO lock stock and barrel with very little work.
