Son saves his Dad's life - wants a PS3 for it
Usually when you hear stories about the PS3 on the local news, it's because somebody got stabbed for one or an old lady got punched in the face over it or something -- kind of depressing really. So we were stoked when we saw GamingTarget's story about a 9-year-old boy who saved his father's life and decided he deserved a PS3 for the heroic act.According to the news segment, 9-year-old Matty Lovo was able to gain control of a 100,000 pound tractor-trailer after his dad passed out behind the wheel. He used the truck's CB to call for help and a second driver was able to come and bring the truck to a stop. His grateful father was interviewed by the local news agency, and said his son "keeps telling me he thinks he needs his PlayStation 3 now for a reward."
Seems like a pretty reasonable trade -- your son saves your life, you drop 500 dollars (or 600 if you're feeling extra thankful) to get him a PS3. Best part of the story though? When the co-anchor on the news show admits he has no idea how to use his own PS3. Pure Ron Burgundy right there.

CB Radio: $80
Saving ones life: $600
Passing out while in command of a 100,000 pound tractor? priceless
secret @ Aug 10th 2007 3:30PM
PS3Fanboy, send the boy a free PS3... :)
ClarkyCat @ Aug 10th 2007 3:37PM
So, Sony have resorted to sabotaging tractors for their viral ads? That's... original, I guess!
nathanexplosion @ Aug 10th 2007 3:38PM
How sad is this? Kid saves his Dad's life and wants a PS3 for it. Uh, how about having a Dad? Guess a PS3 is more important to kids these days. It isn't like it was a total selfless act. I mean, who
fed the kid, gave him shelter, and clothed him for the past few years? Who was going to continue to do that with pops six feet under? Flippin' incredible.
p.s. when my parents get put into a home, I'm
going to demand a PS6 game for each time I come visit them. Thanks for the idea kid
pcgamer11 @ Aug 13th 2007 2:16PM
why would he want a PS3? I use mine as a door stopper! He should've asked for a 360 and Halo 3 ;p
pete @ Aug 10th 2007 3:44PM
maybe the father was like,
dad: thanks son you save my life, is there anything i can get you
kid:ps3
dad: okay how much are those
kid: only 500. plus game and extra controller 600 total, oh and tax
dad: umm, anything else... maybe. a hot wheels??
kid: PS3! PS3! I WANT IT NOW
pete @ Aug 10th 2007 3:46PM
and #5 getdafukouttahere!!
Mike Staino @ Aug 10th 2007 3:46PM
nathan are you serious???
This kid is 9 years old, do you really think he thinks about all that stuff. I'm not saying he is right for believing he deserves one but come on now.
He probably doesn't realize what death really is yet either.
steve @ Aug 10th 2007 3:53PM
"why would he want a PS3? I use mine as a door stopper! He should've asked for a 360 and Halo 3" ;p
Go lay down by your dish!!!
Anghel @ Aug 10th 2007 3:56PM
The dad probably passed out again when he found out the PS3 costs 500 dollars.
pcgamer11 @ Aug 10th 2007 3:53PM
360>ps3
Tru-blue @ Aug 10th 2007 3:55PM
PS3 as a door stopper...sounds like a good idea, I'd use a 360 for that, but the 360 is currently being used as the cat litter.
never$$hort @ Aug 10th 2007 3:56PM
@#5 pcgamer11:
-Why the hell would he ask for a defective, disc scratching, always-out-for-repairs, losing-HD-format-supporting, non-HDD-using, over-priced, over-heating, red ring of death toaster-oven??? Oh yeah and buy a machine that is going to be improved and updated in months making the version he buys now obsolete... You're better off with the doorstop you call a PS3, at least its quality design wont damage your door, LMAO...
secret @ Aug 10th 2007 3:56PM
If the kid was an xbox360 fan, the father would've been dead by now.
pcgamer11 @ Aug 10th 2007 3:59PM
my point is: games matter right now, not hardware. all ps3 is getting is watered down lame ass ports of 360 games, and original ips keep getting delayed. point made. period.
secret @ Aug 10th 2007 4:00PM
Or maybe the kid WAS an xbox360 fan but because his xbox360 was back in customer service for repairs, he had the free time to navigate the trailer. Because of his experience with the xbox360, he now knows that the PS3 is the only way to go. Kids get smarter and smarter as they grow up and gain more experience.Plus, the 360 is too expensive for something that only plays games that are NOT in Hi-def. If DVD-9 is HD, why do you need HD-DVD and Bluray? Kid's are getting smarter now.
secret @ Aug 10th 2007 4:04PM
And this is a PS3 forum. Why are 360 people even in here? In a car race, if you truly felt that your car is faster and prettier and is guaranteed to win the race, then why come over to our side and try to scratch or paint and flatten our tires just before the race begins? Why not play fair? Why cheat if you truly believe your console is better? Remember the olympic hopeful skaters Nancy Karagen and that other girl? Remember how one girl felt the other was too much competition so she went and bashed up the other girl's knees and then got arrested and banned from skating ever again? If she really felt she was better than the competition, why'd she resort to illegal behavior and cheat? XBOX360 people? Who's cheating now?
never$$hort @ Aug 10th 2007 4:05PM
Actually hardware DOES matter retard... Games come and go... Just like games will come to the PS3 and go away from the 360 in the NEAR future.
secret @ Aug 10th 2007 4:09PM
So that the xbox360 people with educational impairment can understand better, the girl who cheated felt that her competition was too much for her and that she couldn't win fairly. That's why she resorted to crimminal or "UN-SPORTSMAN LIKE PLAY" behavior...I'm proud NOT to be an xbox360 owner. I've never once felt the need to go into an XBOX forum. I'm confident the PS3 is good. i have no need to be unsportmans like and play dirty. I know the PS3 is better. Only the C or D student would feel the need to cheat and hate. The A and well prepared student keeps to himself or herself with a smile on his or her face.

The A and well-prepared students keeps to himself or herself and would hope that the bitter C or D students (xbox360, cough, cough) just leave them alone and stay in their own hill billy community??
pcgamer11 @ Aug 10th 2007 4:20PM
pretty much, i mean, they are butt hurt due to the fact there is nothing to play on their consoles

Lol @ Corbin. You just came on a bad day! We're normal I SWEAR!
Lol Colin, I love that Ron Burgundy reference.
never$$hort @ Aug 10th 2007 4:27PM
Still playin Gears Huh... Isn't that the only game WORTH playing on the 360 2 years into its life span... Looks like your hurtin for games too at least until your beloved Halo 2.5 comes out (or is it Halo 3??) Fuk it whats the difference, Halo is overly repetitive no matter how you look at it and I will never buy a game system to WAIT 2 years for 1 game!!! At least we can enjoy HD movies while we wait...
never$$hort @ Aug 10th 2007 4:30PM
Get some NEW arguments 360 trolls... The game debate grew incredibly STALE and OLD months ago. I understand tho, its all you guys have to hold onto in the midst of all the negativity involving M$...
pete @ Aug 10th 2007 4:44PM
the kid maybe be selfish and a brat but at least hes smart. he didnt ask for a wii, let alone a 360 he went for the gold w/a ps3 . so kudos to the brat.
Andy @ Aug 10th 2007 5:11PM
"a lot of games are getting delayed for the ps3,the best online service, and really solid exclusives."
I agree with you 100%. PS3 does have delays, the best online service because its free, and really solid exclusives.
I think there are about 40 exclusive games coming out in the next 12 months.
WTangoFoxtrot @ Aug 10th 2007 5:15PM
slow news day for the PS3 eh ?
Andy @ Aug 10th 2007 5:19PM
I took this excerpt from the article
"Help came from another driver who hopped in to turn off the truck and steer it back to safety. "
This guy deserves a PS3, it sounds like he jumped from his vehicle to this guys truck. Just give the kid a Gameboy Advance.
upz @ Aug 10th 2007 5:27PM
Welcome to the thread where no one understands what anyone else is saying.
Corbin, he was talking to Colin. Andy, he was talking about the 360.
Irwin @ Aug 10th 2007 5:31PM
lol @ upz :P
gullum @ Aug 10th 2007 5:32PM
Ugh, how did this turn into another console debate? Oh yeah the Xbox 3FixMe trolls came and started it.
Back on topic, the guy was driving a tractor and passed out? Next time lay off the moonshine, Jethro.
And I agree with pete. Props to the brat for going all the way and asking for the PS3. We all know it's gonna kick ass and take names but to know that a 9 year old had such insight, well let's just say I wish my kid is that smart.
never$$hort @ Aug 10th 2007 5:41PM
@#36 upz: "Corbin, he was talking to Colin."
-Who the hell is Colin??? No Colin here... LOL
never$$hort @ Aug 10th 2007 5:45PM
@39:"explain to me how using a 360 as cat litter is even possible.
jackass."
-You're right, he meant to say he uses the 360 as the cat litter BOX to hold the cat litter, Me, I found a better use for it, whenever I throw a large party and all my bathrooms are taken, the 360 doubles as a urinal/shitter...
never$$hort @ Aug 10th 2007 5:50PM
J/K... I wouldnt give the 360 credit for being used for taking a piss or poo cuz my toilet does an even better job than the 360 because it doesn't break...
GL @ Aug 10th 2007 5:52PM
Smart kid!

"-Who the hell is Colin??? No Colin here... LOL"
He's the writer of the story....Look at the writer's name. It's Colin Torretta.
never$$hort @ Aug 10th 2007 5:59PM
Thanks Killer for clearing that up, and I'm proud of you for not following up your comment with anti-PS3 remarks... good job

lets start a paypal account and contribute money for the console, games, accesories, games, games, and more games!
GO 9 YEAR OLD DUDEZ!
Thomas @ Aug 10th 2007 6:45PM
This story would have been so much more cute if the child wanted a Wii Wii... but he said PS3.. so his dad needs to get him one. Bad thing is that, his father probably can't afford the damn thing.
Remember that study that says people with the PS3 are oblivious of its blu ray functions.. well that news anchor just validated it!
micklol @ Aug 10th 2007 6:49PM
this story is the exact opposite of the hold your pee for wii story.
mom-dad
dead-alive
got wii-no ps3 yet
wii-ps3
jitty @ Aug 10th 2007 7:34PM
This how I imagine the conversation:
dad: OMG son! You save my life!!!
kid: NOW can I have a ps3?
dad: How much is it?
kid: only $499
dad: Ummm... uh... I'll think about it... How about a DS?
kid: PS3! PS3!! PS3!!!
gibson335 @ Aug 10th 2007 7:36PM
If Dad doesn't come through, I'm sure Santa will make sure this young man is on the GB&G list. And as for Dad, fathering progeny that not only thrives but keeps you in the gene pool: That's the pinnacle of positive natural selection.
Ho Ho Ho!
MisterL @ Aug 10th 2007 8:21PM
The kid deserves a beating for asking for something in return. I guess it's not enough for parents to give birth to their children and then deal with their whiny asses while clothing, feeding, and sheltering the ingrates for many, many stressful years.
apoc06 @ Aug 10th 2007 9:36PM
geez, did no one watch the interview?
#1. the kid saved his dad's life. period. most adults would have panicked and went into shock.
#2. the kid has been asking for a ps3 for a while.
#3. he's nine! sure if he was an adult, he would have just been doing what was expected. at nine years old, he knew how to work the CB to call for help and he knew not to panic.
#4. how is he a brat? the kid didnt ask for a reward. the father offered to get him a reward for his heroism. the kid responded that as the reward, he wanted the ps3 he has been asking for.
Ubermonkey @ Aug 10th 2007 11:24PM
lol i bet the kid put sleeping pills in his drink or something so he could get a ps3
