Skate keeps performing tricks, keeps people smiling

Unlike the Tony Hawk games, the streets aren't riddled with ramps or arbitrary railings. It's a city, so there are benches and stairs and all that, along with some curved building structures. If you want ramps and such, head off to one of the designated skating parks. Or be more imaginative with your surroundings. There are multiple contests and tournaments to enter all across the city, so there's plenty of chances to pull out your best moves on different scenic grounds. We're looking forward to hearing more about this game!

It is my opinion that Skate doesn't have to 'dethrone' Tony Hawk. The Tony Hawk series is at what? The 9th version? Skate is at version 1.
All EA really needs to do with Skate is produce a solid skateboarding game that gets enough attention to warrant a Skate 2.
I just think its unrealistic when people expect a new IP to dethrone a well established IP in the same gamespace. The first version is all about exploring new ideas. Only with the sequels will the gameplay start to approach the level of polish (and sameness, aye, there's the rub) of an established IP.

Skate definitely seems to be threatening Tony Hawks.
Seen the trailers for the newest game? All really tame gameplay with lots of manuals + street work + realistic moves, unlike every other trailer where they were just filled with the usual 9 hour long grind combo's for millions of points.
The newest THPS game really seems to be trying to achieve the same things skate is, with the more realistic style of skating and the photography+videomaking side of the game.
I'm still undecided about Skate, since i really enjoy the over the top gameplay of the tony hawk games but if Skate can bring the same level of fun as grinding around an airport to doing a few manuals and ollies over a bench then...i definitely welcome a new entry to the skating genre.
Bring on the x360 demo tbh.

Skate will be more satisfying when you nail a trick so thats why I'm going with EA.
Does skate have online for PS3?
Tru-blue @ Aug 15th 2007 4:20PM
Will EA make Skate for the PS3 run at a blazing 30fps? =\
Popfrogs @ Aug 15th 2007 5:18PM
Whatever crap studios are responsible for the Madden and other underperforming EA sports games aren't working on Skate. Skate is being done by Black Box and EA is just publishing it. I think Black Box will get this game right.

I cant wait for this game I hope it lives up to my expectations. I wonder if we see a demo as I noticed on a Jason Dill vid on VBS that the 360 has a demo as of today

I haven't been this excited about a skateboarding game since I first heard about THPS2! I really hope that the devs make this the BEST multiplat game out there! =)
On a side note, THPS3 was the last game I bought in the series. I rented the others but they just didn't do it for me... =( i miss my ssx too! )=

Do you see that pic?...
Fark, why do skaters have to turn all emo with the damn tight jeans. Give it up already, go back to how we used to be.
Sucks. Seems there are only a few of us original skaters left these days. I hope the whole emo crap dies so all of us who can't stand the thought of ripping our pants in mid air can gladly wear what we all should & not feel different.
Bloody society these days.

wholeheartedly agree ^^^^^^^

@#13.) You have to remember, to truly be a skater means to be an INDIVIDUAL....why does it matter what other skaters wear? If you care about looks then you are really a conformist sheep that falls in line with all the other mindless people being lead to slaughter.
Being a skater is being oneself. If you are comfortable and feel at home in baggy pants so be it....That's your style. Each person has their own. Remember how different Muska dressed from everyone else?? He was still a skater.... so stop worrying about the fashion, and concentrate on the skating.

Jase how did it used to be? The 70's skin tight jeans no shirt and a pair of Vans? The 80's neon day glo Vision shorts with a T-Shirt sleeve around your neck Hosoi style? The size 48 New Deal pants and 20mm wheels of the early 90's goofy boy era? The Levi 501 and Ralph Lauren Polo Sweat of the mid 90's? Or is it the shell pants and basketball vests of the early 2000's. Oh I get it you mean the Dickies pants and mesh trucker hats of the hesh skater 3-4 years ago?
Oh by the way the pic is of Chris Cole and he has been wearing tight pants and metal T's long before emo landed
You know just how it used to be
