Sony's four C's of online gaming

In addition to Macdonald, Home's director Peter Edward gave a short talk also. He spoke of plans to have a fully-functioning social network within Home in the coming years -- less like MySpace, more like OurSpace, if you know what we mean. Another interesting tidbit was the fact Sony will "be giving out tools to allow scripting, java minigames and so on." We doubt this implies anyone can make a java game to slap up on Home, but in the coming years, perhaps such tools will be made available to users. That's our imaginations at work, not Edwards'.
What Edwards did imagine was revenue sharing -- allowing certain company's or brands to advertise in your personal room for a small slice of profit. Perhaps they'll stick a few dollars in your PS Store account or something. Would you guys be up for that? If you were given a few dollars to have a certain brand in your personal room, would you do it?

We can all sound like nascar drivers after a race"...I wouldn't have been able to frag without Pepsi and Doritos and...."
Personaly, I have no shame if they want to give me money to advertise for them.
Xoonaka @ Aug 15th 2007 4:08PM
As long as I could choose what brands I advertise, I'd completely be up for it.

"Would you guys be up for that? If you were given a few dollars to have a certain brand in your personal room, would you do it?"
Uh...yea! I wonder how big the ads will be and also if you could move the ads to like the ceiling of your apartment or cover them up, it would be like there were never there! : )
MentalGunner @ Aug 15th 2007 4:23PM
Isewise, i'm sure the company will have scouts checking out their ads they're paying you to display. putting a coke ad behind a couch is not the best idea. On a side note hopefully they'll be like posters that you can put up on the walls and designed to look like real wall posters (complete with shine, slightly torn edges, sight dog ears etc).
doug @ Aug 15th 2007 4:24PM
if its coke maybe itd be cool to have a coke machine in your home or something
Darkdrium777 @ Aug 15th 2007 4:59PM
I have no problems with in-Home advertising, as long as it is discrete, not like a huge billboard ad or something. And the money in exchange is always nice :p
Featherhammer @ Aug 15th 2007 5:01PM
I'm guessing that you are going to need to qualify in some way for the advertiser to send you money. If not, my crib is going to look like the Sunday paper.
afr @ Aug 15th 2007 5:17PM
i would happily put up an advertisement in my Home space for some cash
Nuge32 @ Aug 15th 2007 5:48PM
A whole 2 hours with out a 360 fanboy coming in here and saying thats "selling out" or some other bullshit... Did I die and go to bizzaro world?
IseWise @ Aug 15th 2007 6:40PM
I would be alright with a coke machine in my loft for some cashola

They could force upon me as big an advert as they wish (the larger the ad the more money for me), as I would simply leave my avatar looking at the ad, flick the TV over to watch some football and return later with a PSN account full of money. Ker-ching!
Killer @ Aug 15th 2007 8:01PM
A whole 2 hours with out a mention of anything related to the 360...then comes your comment.
Ironic. I was really hoping there wouldn't be (for once) the numbers 3-6-0 weren't written in a comment. Guess not. I had High Hopes too.
Back on the subject. I like the advertising Idea. Money makes the world go'round. So why not the virtual world?
cabinda4ever @ Aug 15th 2007 8:06PM
Thats way easy!!! heres the plan...am sure everybody has a body with a ps3 so ...you get them to fill his room with ADS for every company you can get. Tell your body to hang with you in your room. For that period of time..THEN SPLIT THE MONEY...EASY FIZZY MONEY HAHA now thats what i call MARKET or BEING BUSTED.

It'd probably be similar to real life sponsors for a lot of the worthwhile paying adverts, where the top gamers are always the ones with the goodies as usual.
They could also run it on a very low $£€ per view basis, so if you have tons of people visiting your 'crib' then you may be able to afford an alternative Tekken5 costume in a couple of months.
What i wouldnt mind would be mutual backscratching, while you advertise Tekken5 by putting a poster in your place you can have access to a new arena, if you yank it down then you no longer have that arena, that sort of thing. So you'd both get something for nothing for as long as it was convenient. If all your playing is LittleBigPlanet then losing access to R:FoM freebies etc
But i dont see the average 'Home'-owner really making worthwhile money from in-home advertising, especially when they know most people who like Gran Turismo would love to have a cool GT poster on their wall, why would they want to pay people for it??
Consolcwby @ Aug 15th 2007 9:26PM
=o i was gonna put a cool captain morgan poster in my room anyway... might as well get paid for it i guess... now if only vivid video was involved - then i'd really make some great cash! =DD
joeybwfc @ Aug 15th 2007 9:48PM
the possibility of this sort of advertising has only just been announced and already you guys have figured out a way to beat the system......good stuff!
secret @ Aug 15th 2007 10:03PM
Add another C for "cooperation."
secret @ Aug 15th 2007 10:04PM
Well, community is already like cooperation, so ...

"Would you guys be up for that? If you were given a few dollars to have a certain brand in your personal room, would you do it?"
Hell yeah I'll be up for it, especially if the make it where the more people you have in your home space the more money you'll make. Therefore, I would throw home parties every single day, and everyones invited.
Ninegauger @ Aug 16th 2007 7:53AM
Gamercards and trophies? How about a "C" for Copy, or Coopt...
A good strategy, it's worked for Sony in the past.
coplice @ Aug 16th 2007 10:07AM
@20
what about some other that copied Sony?
hard drive in console...
dvd for games...
everything is copied from another, its hard to be completely original
xbox live remind me of gamespy, not you?
Andy @ Aug 16th 2007 10:37AM
@21/Coplice
Sony actually copied Xbox in regards to the hard drive. The Xbox had a 8 GB hard drive.
This generation the Xbox 360 had a hard drive about a year before the Playstation 3 launched.
So I don't really see where you are coming from with that?
Wow...it almost sounds like I am defending the Xbox 360.
never$$hort @ Aug 16th 2007 2:27PM
Microsofts 4 C's of gaming:
1)Cheaply-made
2)Cheats for exclusives
3)Con you out of your $$$
4)Choking miserably on death
