Recycle your old Sony consoles, Sony requests

It's a cool program, but right now, the recycling centers seem arbitrarily distributed: 17 in California, 19 in Minnesota, 1 in New York and 32 states missing them completely. Sony intends to have doubled the number next year and assures us they plan to have a center "within 20 miles of 95% of the US population". If they can do that, good for them. So, how many of us are sitting on nearly-dead consoles of the past? We know our PS2 is still kickin', but barely.

This is something Microsoft should do because we know they have a bunch of dead consoles, lol.

@1
Microsoft don't, they temporary "fix" the broken 360 and ship then back when they receive another broken console
Dave @ Aug 17th 2007 11:04AM
@#2, so, that's the perfect meaning of recycling, lol

"they temporary "fix" the broken 360 and ship then back when they receive another broken console"
-I still dont understand how this doesnt extremely upset thier customers... I would be soooo mad if I was in that cycle of temporary fixes, in fact I would demand a NEW console... and they call us crazy just because we wait for games, sheeesh, this logic never ceases to amaze me with those people. Halo 3 is far from enough to convince me in a million years to hop aboard that trainwreck to no-where. I wouldnt be suprised if they were keeping the system on life-support until the Halo 2.5 rush is over and then they will brutally kill it just like the 1st box...

Don't get me wrong, I'm for reclycling, but my ps2 is like a third lung. I wouldn't trade a girlfriend for a new girlfriend.... If I can have ont in the living room and one in the bedroom ;)

I've still got my original Playstation - that works....
Unlike my Launch PS2 which worked from the day it was released... right up... until.... I recieved my PS3 in the post... then the disk tray stopped working :(
This is a really nice thing... but what happens to them all? Do they go to orphanariums? under-priveledged kids? developing countries?
NB: Wouldn't a NEW Xbox be able to suffer the same fate?
Sammy @ Aug 17th 2007 12:41PM
They are used to build cages for orphans.

Not all 360's break... In my family (cousins)we have purchased 4 of them... and one of them runs perfect.
Anyway all my Sony products work fine... My PSOne runs like a champ, that sucka ain't going anywhere.
Hirsbrunner @ Aug 17th 2007 2:58PM
Isn't saying "Sony" and "Waste Management" being redundant?

"Not all 360's break... In my family (cousins)we have purchased 4 of them... and one of them runs perfect."
-Wow, 1 outta 4, thats some good statistics you have there to prove 360's are a quality built machine..
*rolls eyes*
If you were being sarcastic, I would have to agree with you that those stats are pretty funny, but if you were being serious like thats a good thing, I would have to say you're mentally challenged...

I still use my PS1 and PS2 regularly, they're like my left and right testitacles, they aren't going anywhere.
The Clunge @ Aug 18th 2007 8:08AM
I've still got my original PS1, which finally died after 7 years of incredibly hard service, but I couldn't send it away to be recycled, I love it too much. I've been gaming since the 70's, but the PS1 is the best machine I ever owned. I'd rather put in a display case, or get it gold plated and hang it on the wall. It's not a particularly attractive piece of design, but nothing is more beautiful than the face of an old friend, even if they're plug-ugly.
They might get it one day, FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS!
