Retailers say Eye of Judgment is $60, camera included
The PlayStation Eye accessory is far more advanced than its last-gen predecessor, the EyeToy. With 120fps support, high-res video recording, advanced speech recognition, and EyeCreate photo editing software, we feared the Eye would cost an arm and a leg. It doesn't appear to be the case. The upcoming Eye of Judgment, which includes the camera peripheral, is listed for the same price as a regular PS3 retail game: only $60. According to amazon.com, the game will arrive in October. At this price, it seems worthwhile to pick up -- even if you're not interested in the game.

Most of the advancements over EyeToy are software based..eg. the processing of the video and audio.
Sony is a leader in ccd/cmos sensor production, so the implementation of 120fps is evolutionary for them. For the audio component, aside from the added complexity of the mic array... its mostly software driven.
The Eye of Judgement game is a PSN level game.. so, its like bundling a PSN game with the Playstation Eye for $60.

Popfrogs @ Aug 20th 2007 9:04PM
Sweet, so between 2 full priced games I'm going to wind up with 2 cool peripherals...a webcam and a bt headset. What a win!
Leo @ Aug 20th 2007 9:04PM
Yeah, the box art sucks.
jp @ Aug 20th 2007 9:51PM
dont like card based games, even if i did this game would still look lame. but 60 bucks for a damn nice camera that seems as though it would double as a nanny cam works for me.
Steve @ Aug 20th 2007 9:58PM
i bet it'll be downloadable like warhawk so it's compatible w/ old Eye Toy.
but hot damn kiddes!! this is awesome!!
warhawk now this?? thank you phil harrison

@1, I'd say the noise canceling microphone is an improvement over the EyeToy, especially considering that it didn't have a mic...
Consolcwby @ Aug 20th 2007 10:38PM
$60 is a great deal... until you consider all the money needed for booster packs and the like. =/ Mind you, though, I'll still be getting this one! My dad wants to play this one! XD He hates the W**!
Sam @ Aug 20th 2007 11:31PM
Well that camera seems nice and impressive
I've been meaning to plug a webcam into my ps3 to test it out etc but then i realised theres not really any point as i dont have any psn friends ¬_¬
I'll still pick it up though :P
Gunegune @ Aug 20th 2007 11:46PM
Seems like a pretty sweet deal. I don't know whether to pick up this game or Warhawk. It'd be cool if I could buy just the PlayStation Eye.
Spector @ Aug 21st 2007 1:39AM
Eye of Judgement is also listed in the EB/Gamestop databases as $60 also. Here's hoping it's not going to change.
Mutsch @ Aug 21st 2007 2:09AM
Not that I wanna disappoint you guys, but EoJ was priced at EUR 109 in the latest release list from SCEE. Unsually those prices directly translate into $.
Btw, the game includes the camera as well as the board, cards and the camera mount. No way it goes for 60 bucks.
Giil @ Aug 21st 2007 3:17AM
You know why it cost $60.....because they are going to rip us off on the Cards!!(require to play the game). Remember $ony knows where it hurts the most...so don't be stupid saying OMG is so cheap. Prepare that credit card because is going to swipe like is HOT (Pokemon fanboys). FYI I am a P$3 fanboy.

@1. Nom eyetoy has significant hardware improvements
1) The 120 FPS as previously mentioned is a HUGE step up
2) The noise cancelling microphone array, again, huge. No need for a headset now
3) The camera is so light-sensitive, you can play in complete darkness using only the light from your TV. Eyetoy1s biggest flaw was it's poor darkness-handling abilities. This is now gone
4) The resolution increase
5) The visual quality increase. It's not even compressed video anymore
Considering every single part of the hardware has been improved, claiming it's mostly software is retarded and ignorant.
UltimateNinja9 @ Aug 21st 2007 3:17AM
This is a sweet deal, and I wasn't even interested in this game until now!
Justin @ Aug 21st 2007 5:41AM
Damn. I wonder how much the cam will be separately.
Brian Spence @ Aug 21st 2007 7:32AM
The game doesn't look like anything special. Not putting it down, but it looks like a downloadable from the PS store.
borland502 @ Aug 21st 2007 9:53AM
@20: "The game doesn't look like anything special."
The game isn't anything special by itself. But I cheer it on only because it adds another interaction layer to videogames. Tech like this has been around for awhile, but like the Wiimote, no one has successfully integrated home gaming with it.
So I'm not looking forward to the CCS aspect of it, but I am looking forward to Battle Chess and maybe games that go beyond the wiimote in ability. *shrug* it may not happen, but the possibility is interesting enough for me to cheer Eye on.
upz @ Aug 21st 2007 10:23AM
That does sound like a good deal.
Now let's think about the psychology of the situation. If they said the camera was $60, and came with Eye of Judgement, would that still sound like a good deal?
Popfrogs @ Aug 21st 2007 10:34AM
@22:
Yes.
Next question.
TxdoHawk @ Aug 22nd 2007 10:49AM
According to EBgames.com and previews I've read, the whole package is:
- The EyeToy.
- A stand for the camera.
- The play mat.
- The game disc.
- A starter deck (pre-sorted, every one is the same).
- One booster pack.
If this is true, that is a great deal, IMO. Of course, like everyone else has said, they'll be making the real money from booster packs, but that's fine by me. The game apparently plays great, and I want to see it do well.
MacGordon @ Aug 22nd 2007 12:05PM
Looks like they're about to play some crazy wack YuGiOh!
