if you've really never played any...you should play them all in order. most likely...you'll be super-lost when it comes to MGS4's storyline.

okay...who the HELL is talking in that first video?
Darkdrium777 @ Aug 23rd 2007 1:35PM
I think its Kojima San. Now you know why there is always someone that speaks for him in english. :)
Popfrogs @ Aug 23rd 2007 2:43PM
#4: The previous games in the series have been more about hiding and picking your fights than straight up massacre like every other FPS. Find MGS2 cheap somewhere, fire it up and see what you think. MGS3...maybe you can skip it, it's a real pain in the neck for the first 30 minutes or more and the storyline is a history lesson (it's like 30 years before the other MGS games).
Trust me, when it comes to storyline, action, adventure, sneaking, a little puzzle solving...MGS takes the prize. These are some of the best games ever made. I don't say that lightly.

Wow.
NOW I am HYPED.
Watching that first bit, where we can hear him talking? Awesome. We get to hear an artist talking about the implementation of his creation. And he has taken a classic push/pull (pulk/pull revolving doors), timeless concept and brought it full now-generation, a classic element, dispensed through a new mythos, so that now-generation people can explore classical elements in a way that is stimulating, intrigueing, fun, I could go on.
A smart teacher or parent would have a student write a paper about these elements. Think of how mobilizing, how motivating this would be. Like Shakespeare in our time (perhaps I had one too many beers?).
If you exalt a woman, you're going against the status quo. Exalting men is easy, that's what GOW (and GOW) does, it's what our military-corporatocracy does.
Now we are seeing a bit of anthropology here ('bit' being sarcastic).
Maxim does not exalt women (and I say exalt because we are already exalting men-- exaltation has it's drawbacks, but this is one way to meet male exaltation with female, creating a balance), it objectifies them.
As do the commercials, the billboards, the magazines, my eyeballs...
So:
How do women come back?
In this next-gen example (and I'm keeping it there, because think about it-- what is SIMs but a woman's game? So women have already finally begun to make their own franchises in a male-dominated industry), women are entering this realm in war-time, male-dominated scenarios.
First, we have Heavenly Sword.
Now, Gears could never have been made with women leads, that would be like making a Hollywood chase scene with a Prius and a freakin Honda Insight (actually, that sounds SUPER cool!)-- the storyline prevents it, most women don't act like that (do most men?)
So Heavenly Sword has all this emotional docudrama type stuff, which I love.
Notice that the game will be almost totally reviewed by males.
And they will not give it more than a 8.9, if that.
They're not buying into the background.
But Kojima of course knocks it up, a notch.
He says (truthfully) that women are casualties of war not to be discounted.
In his script, they transform into beautiful/monstrous machines (what monstrous machine isn't also beautiful-- cha ching! Zen point!), and they are 'grotesque' and they are enraged, but they are also still beautiful yet now they are a threat.
So, as he finishes, that last line, he's got me, hook, 'line', and sinker. I'm a fish in a pond. I always rent games, but I will buy this game.
Respect.
The layers of all this go so deep, but since I'm not writing an anthropology paper for a grade or a career, I'm going to stop right here.
p.s. I LOVE the way he talks. Don't change a thing, 'San!

Damn, John, you're all over the gigantic posts! You do (even though you're drunk) make some decent points here and there and, even though the only reason I can make sense of them is because I am also tipsy, the fact is women do deserve a lot more respect than they normally get. No matter what the medium is.

no disrispect cuz i got em all mgs games but im disapointed. i expected a little more realism. not any more crazy villains that run on water and are psychic and the like... kojima u disapointed me. i expected true realism and bosses shoud be more human like... even tho im no splinter cell fan and i never would even tho i played all its games i think this is where they rock. i mean no psychic, vampire soldiers and the like. kojima wassup with that nonscence man? i mean reality is boring true, but you can make it interesting at least without going too far...
