Kojima talks Metal Gear Online, Xbox 360 and "The Rumble Guy"
After his Leipzig presentation, Hideo Kojima took some time to answer some questions from the audience. When asked if Metal Gear Online will be separate from the main MGS4 game, he answered: "When you play story mode you will be able to go online and it will have extra stuff at the end. Haven't decided whether it will be separate or not, but if you buy MGS4 you can play a portion of online at least."
When asked about rumble, Kojima-san told a tale of woe: "In Kojima Productions there is a man, we call him The Rumble Guy, and he has nothing to do right now. So every day I worry about him. I want to include Rumble so that he has something to do." Please Sony! Give The Rumble Guy something to do!
Finally, when asked about a 360 version, he reconfirmed what we knew all along: "Right now it's only being made for PS3. No plans for 360 for now." For the complete Q&A, visit Joystiq.

Can you say anything about the music?
There may be a special feature where you can play your own music.
Yay...I can listen to 90s pop music while sneaking up on some folks in MGS4.

Hahaha.. the rumble guy!
I can just imagine him, sitting in his corner, silently.. longingly..

I hate to say it. But it looks like MGS4 will EVENTUALLY get to the X360 in the future and not be a 100% PS3 exclusive. Why else in the world would he say "No plans for the 360 FOR NOW." and please don't call me a x360 fanboy, I'm just a videogame fanboy.

MGS should not have a customizeable soundtrack...
Harry Gregson-Williams is GREAT!

I still think the most likely scenario is MGS online for Xbox 360 and PS3. This game has probably already exceeded the 9GB limit for Xbox games. They would have to do some wicked compressing or cut the cutscenes or a few levels to make it fit.

The Rumble Guy :D

Another console getting the game doesn't mean you'll somehow enjoy the game any less.
Having played MGS2 on Xbox I'll stick with the PS3 MGS4 because if MGS2 for Xbox was any indication MGS4 for Xbox360 (if it eventuates) will be a cash-in, poorly optimised port.

You're correct, it won't hurt our enjoyment of the game. However, games like MGS4 and FFXIII are potential system-movers. If they go cross platform, then Sony loses sales, and us PS3 owners continue to suffer through half-assed ports of X360 games since Sony's marketshare remains low.
Kojima needs to get paid to say "this game will never be released on X360" or something extremely definitive like that. He needs to bury the rumor so Sony can move some consoles.

The Rumble Guy sitting at his desk with nothing to do. The Rumble Guy sitting there all alone mumbling to himself as people walk by, "..stapler, can I have my stapler? I want my stapler."

Part of the reason they keep saying it in such vague ways could have something to do with the fact that they are, surprise, Japanese. If you don't see their answer as a no, it's because you are expecting a Western response.
It's simply part of the culture, and is far more involving that can be explained in a comment here. It basically stems from avoiding confrontation and finality.

Then Kojima walks by and asks him to move his stuff to the basement. While eating some cake from the party.

That's exactly how I see it too. There is a need for exclusives to move the system. I love my PS3 a lot; just as I loved my Dreamcast, and I don’t want to see it take the same route the latter did. And beyond sales I don’t want to see a game be held back from it’s full potential because developers have to try and make the two games on par with one another. I’d rather see the PS3 get pushed to it’s limits, using as much of a Blu-ray as needed, than having a watered down multi-platformer.

Losing exclusives do hurt PS3 players, much like you said, we need system sellers to ensure the PS3 as the lead platform. Even as a Multi-console owner, I still want the PS3 to win, as I believe the 360 is holding back this gen.

i knew this would come up. this rumor has already been mega buried under a mountain in the center of the sun.
Trev @ Aug 24th 2007 1:56AM
TwoTurbo, I think it was just a classically vague video game statement. That way they don't pull a Capcom if they decide MGS4: Substance (or whatever) will be multi-platform like MGS2's expanded re-release was.
