2K proclaims: our sports games will run in 60fps

Admittedly, developers have had less time with the PS3 than with the Xbox 360. "It's pretty tough on PS3 but I think it's because most developers have had the Xbox 360 longer in terms of development than the PS3." However, if Sony and 2K Sports can develop games at 60fps, there's no reason why other sports games should be limited on the hardware. Thankfully, EA has already learned from their mistakes.

This is hilarious. Who would have thought that developers of the first HD generation would be doing "frame wars?"
It reminds me of how one of the judgements we have always used on PC first-person-shooters is their frame rate. It's easily observed, easily measured.

basketball is probably the only sports game i can enjoy on a game console. well, maybe hockey...
love what 2K has been doing with their NBA games.

@4 EA live games suck 2k has been doing a better job than then i guess so they wont lose NBA games to EA either. that screen shot looks great.

The fact that you hate EA Sports games doesnt really mean anything. Im just pointing out that NBA Live 08 will be at 60FPS. I am sick and tired of how everyone is hating EA because of the Madden situation and saying that FIFA 08 will be the only game by EA Sports to be on 60FPS. Which is not true.
And by the way, that picture is way wrong. Chicago Bulls doesnt allow there players to wear a headband. Other than that, I am picking both games up, but by far, NBA 2K8 hasnt impressed me yet. Although NBA Live 07 did suck, and 2k7 is better. I think this year will be different.

The fault for the whole 30fps issue (or lack there of) is thanks to the major reviews that decided to harp on it. Since that news outlet ran an article basically calling the PS3 not worth it period didn't help. Now dev's are rushing to make sure everyone knows BOTH versions run at 60fps. What used to be a useless spec for console gaming as long as the games ran atleast 30fps or more has become a "60fps or it sucks" mentality.

I don't care what NBA Live does... I'm not buying another EA product... Madden 08(ps3) had more problems than just its framerate... they should have just ported the ps2 version with better player textures... at least the gameplay would have been good.

NBA2K8 is built to a multi-platform lowest common denominator with fewer, less complex, polygons per frame of animation. Madden 2008 has FAR more complex polygons with FAR more geometric processing, and much more Artificial Intelligence needed as a result of the fact that there are SO MANY more players on the field in Football. Basketball has a much smaller number of players on the field, and that does make a big difference. As a result, the 275,000,000 polygons per second that the PS3 offers is more than enough to allow NBA 2K8 to run at 60 frames per second; however, the same could not be said for Madden 2008 (or the other Football games). Obviously, the 500,000,000 polygons offered by the Xbox 360 is more than enough to allow 60 frames per second for NBA 2K8, FIFA 2008, Madden 2008, NCAA Football 2008, and All-Pro Football 2K8.
Let me take the time to explain in more detail.
Here is a statement that EA issued to the public that explained why Madden 2008 and the other Football games on both systems run at 60fps on the Xbox 360, but only 30fps on the Playstation 3, even though other sports games do run at 60fps on both systems.

In a written statement, Todd Sitrin, EA’s vice president of marketing sports branding, said that its games are tweaked in different ways to fit the different consoles.
“In designing a game, there are all sorts of tradeoffs that include frame rate, visuals, features, AI, etc. Football is an extremely challenging sport to replicate because of the number of people on the field, their interaction, and the scope of the environments. As you can see, every company making a football game this year made a decision that the best experience for the Xbox 360 included 60fps whereas the best experience for the PS3 was 30fps.”

How about the truth, which would be "the best experience we could come up with on this deadline was 30fps for the PS3. We rushed it out in time for the upcoming football season. Next year we will do better".

Too bad they can't just patch the games that are already out like MLB 2k7... I play that game more than any other right now and I just wish the frame rate was better.
But I guess if they fixed this version there wouldn't be any attraction for the roster update in 2k8. They are really stingy with the official roster updates you can download.

Ummm. I'm sorry. I just paid 600+ for this "next gen" system that spend the better part of 2005-2006 blasting numbers in my face telling me how the graphics on this machine would be all that and a bag of chips meanwhile current/old gen systems already had 60 fps games out for years (going through STANDARD DEFINITION TELEVISION ). Now almost a year after the debut , of ALL the graphic problems to arise, a simple thing like framerate should not be one of them.
I'll admit right now , I'M one of those people who believe your self-made tag line "60fps or it sucks" because this machine comes OUT THE BOX with hdmi and does 1080p WITH blue-ray caps. So , with all that , you couldn't pull a simple spec like 60 frames per second all over the board? ESPECIALLY on a machine that pretty much forces you to put your game on a hd-media?
It not a little thing. Its a big thing. It's big enough to make me go to EA right now and slap all of them....in the nutz...with a horse.
