Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be free
A new "Home" mode will allow greater integration with the upcoming online service. "The goal is to create as seamless an experience between the game and the Home service as possible."
Just like the PS3, the goal is to have Prologue constantly evolve through updates. "It's possible that additional improvements, such as damage modeling, could be a part of a future update to the game somewhere down the line." Certainly, exciting -- hopefully, we'll find out more as Tokyo Game Show draws nearer.

if you add damage modeling, GT5 will be unstoppable.
don't think--just do it. make this a true driving sim.

HELL YEAH!! I agree with you a 100% I think with the power of the PS3 it's possible!! I would hope they do take some damage physics into effect that would make the game unreal!

I would assume that along with damage modeling would come the ability to flip and roll the vehicle.

I'm no fan of these "stop gap games", but at a great price of FREE you can't really argue about not getting the latest Gran Turismo game yet. This should satisfy a lot of people's hunger, especially with the expansions planned.
Oh, and I USED to be kinda so-so on the WipeOut HD thing, but then I found out that it wasn't a remake of WipeOut for PS1, but a port of the 2 PSP WipeOut games, which gives it a few more brownie points in my opinion. It's going to definitely be a day one download for me.

Kazunori stated that proper damage modeling is possible in a future update. Every single car in GT5 has individual parts that are put together to form a car as in real life. Those parts should be interchangeable so extras like customization, enhancements, and damage modeling are inevitable.
Think about that, over 200 parts for each car will come apart in a realistic way unlike some canned animations of that "other" racing game.
AND IT IS FREE. A bigger game than motorstorm, and it is FREE.

The demo for the original PC release of Doom included the first third of the entire game. You'll forgive me if I don't think GT5 Prologue will be that complete.
Also, it's spelled "you're," not "your."

If they do damage, please let it be done really, really well. I think if it doesn't end up in the game, it will be because they couldn't do it on the level they want it to be at.
I hate how in Forza and Dirt that when I oversteer and smack the rear-quarter on my car into a wall, it will often somehow cause my front bumper to come lose and one of my headlights to break, or the rear bumper of my car suddenly looks like someone ran into it from directly behind.

People who have to correct posters English grammar always look lame, it's like saying that anyone from a non-English speaking country or someone who is Dyslexic has nothing worth while to say. Spelling and grammar doesn't come easy to everyone.
The "demo" for the original Doom you're talking about was shareware so your point is utterly pointless.

for those who wonder why they didn't add damages into the game..
one of the main programmers once came to my school to give a talk, and my lecturer (who was a friend of him) went to ask him the very question
he said: the reason why damage modeling isn't done is because modeling engine parts is too difficult.. the car is just an exterior shell.. and contrary to what we expected, it wasn't due to manufacturers concern
side notes: he did mention that the polygons on GT's cars is alot.. he don't even know how much polygons per car
you can choose to believe it or not ;).. the reason the guy came to our school is because he used to be a lecturer here and later went on to work on gran turismo as a programmer

Actually, I'm glad they decided to avoid damage in the game. The reason for this is because if the car gets damaged early on in the game or at some other point, you'll have to play the entire game looking at a car accident wreck of a car the whole time. When starting the game in Motorstorm, I'm thinking to myself that the car looks gorgeous with the sun shining on it. After it gets banged up for a while, the race isn't fun anymore but gets very (VERY) distracting with one or two doors always flapping in and out and one side all crumpled up and wobbly tires and black smoke coming out of it. In fact, I'd want the race to be over with because the car by that time looks ugly. I don't want to look at it anymore.
I'd rather look at a shiny ferrari the whole time during the race and admire the beauty than to look at smattered glasses and wobbly wheels during an entire race because of some occassional smash ups. So I applaud the game designers on that game design choice to forget about damage for now at least.

NO DAMAGE IS A GOOD DESIGN DECISION:
In other words, I want to race a shiny good looking pleasing sports car the whole time. It's similar to marrying a beautiful young wife who unrealistically never ages throughout the span of the marriage. But, if that's not the case, then let's say she gets into some accident after your third day of marriage and is now bloated with scars and scabs throughout her body and missing both arms and a leg and half of her face is missing and full of stitches and has a hole in her head and you can see her brain,and now she's all purple colored and missing all her teeth. Tell the truth, do you really want to continue playing this game after that accident? Or do you want the car or wife to still look pretty for you to enjoy the whole race / marriage? You want realism or do you want enjoyment? Maybe the best is to have the option to put damage if you want it. But i would choose to turn off the damage feature if they offer it.

@ secret yeah i want damage, i'd like it to look as realistic as possible. if you want to drive a shiny ferrari the whole time then dont hit the wall or other cars. and it probably wouldent be for the whole game, i would bet that if they had damage the car would look new for the next race like the tires were new in gt3 (never played 4 or HD) or you could have it fixed for a fee.

Damage or no damage, I will still be loving this game. The only thing I would want is from them to copy if not make better options just like Forza, we need to have a kit to customize the car and then save it on the game, that will be transferred to some website and we can show our cars to our friends or make avatars and signatures out of it, I think that feature is cool in Forza and would greatly appreciate it if they do that.

Most of you if not all missed the whole concept and vision of the developers from GT. One of the main visions from the developers are not about car damage. Its about the beauty for the car as its entirety, its about appreciating the car for what it is. Notice the music playing in the background of GT HD? The music is so classy, its almost as if you were able to fall in love with the cars all over again. Its like meeting an old gal in her late 80's and wonder how beautiful she was at her prime. But to capture her at that moment in time, that my friends is unforgetable, which shows what true beauty is all about. My friends stop wyning about car damage any enjoy the vision of GT. Love the cars marry it if you will and stop bashing the game about car damage.
