Watch the developers talk about Gran Turismo

Too much Gran Turismo? Maybe. But we can't help but admire the potential that we see in Gran Turismo 5, Sony's next-gen follow-up to the famous GT series. Beyond just the graphics, we're excited by the gameplay, all of which can be seen on display, narrated by the team at Polyphony.
Enjoy the video -- it might be the last you see of us before we start playing Warhawk.

I was watching a diffrent dev talk/gameplay video earlier and its all 1080p, 60fps, 16 cars at a time and looks like that. I can't wait.

its damage or photo realizm! damage will come but you have to understand the GT series is a process.

the damage physics seemed more like bumper cars than a racing game. the 1080p @60fps is amazing though.

I don't think any damage physics has been shown or implemented yet. He did say that was, if forget exactly, part of the roadmap they are following or something ahead.

Yeah damage may be implemented later. It's just not in the game yet. It's still the GT bumper cars strategy that wins races. :)

This may be the first game in the history of my 15 odd years of gaming to convince me to buy a racing wheel.

I had to re-watch it because the Narrator made me fall asleep. Okay so they can't keep a room awake talking, but their games can. I usually don't care much for car games, but this one really has me jonesing.

Wow! Gran Turismo looks like the game that really is going to make use of the cell processor! They say the polygons per car is an average of 200,000 and that up to either 16 or 60 cars can race at one time (I couldn't make out which one).
The Xbox 360 can only manage half that with 8 cars per truck on Project Gotham Racing.
I'm happy enough with graphics as it is on the 360 but with graphics like in the video above I will definitely take considerations for the PS3 more seriously once the price of the PS3 starts to fall in a few years time.

This is gorgeous, incredible, do you see how the reflections on the top of the cars warp slightly with the bend of the metal beneath? Incredible.
I am so glad they're staying true to their roots, there's no doubt of their passion, and with something like this, it's easy to appreciate and respect.
I was very glad to hear that the AI was "more respectful". It will also be interesting to be driving with 15 other cars instead of 3 or 7!
Also notice, they have done this since GT4, this total understanding of camera, and lighting. I mean, you have these scenes where the car is backlit by bright sky, and the subject of the image, the car, is dark, because if you film against light, you lose color, just like if you look at something facing the light, you will see less color than with your back to the light, because of the physics of light particles, and the rods and cones in your eyeballs.
That is why Forza 2 doesn't look right, looks like a computer game... they don't understand the use of contrast or lighting or color, relative to a film camera or the viewer's eye.
This again brings us to the issue of the ps3's high output video, which in lesser hands tends to look 'washed out'-- but when used correctly, the dynamics are much greater than those of other video cards, and a more 'filmic' image is rendered, BUT ONLY WITH THE PROPER PROGRAMMING.
So this is just one of many things which Polyphony Digital do, and one of many reasons why I admire them.
