Details on Disgaea's new multiplayer mode

Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness is shaping up to be quite the PSP game. Originally planned as a slightly enhanced port of the original PS2 SRPG, Nis America has added a ton of new features to the game to entice fans, old and new. Of particular note is the new multiplayer mode.

In addition to battling against each other, players will be able to buy and sell items. Players can choose which items they'd like to offer. Interestingly, even if you sell a rare item, it won't be deleted from your inventory. Using this barter mechanism, players will be able to share rare items with their friends -- a real "win-win situation."

Multiplayer will have a few new features, such as the classic "Fog of War" effect, which hides the field beyond the player's viewable range. There are special items during multiplayer, as well. Geo Cubes usually alters opponent's stats, but the most powerful kinds can destroy enemy units and summon extremely powerful units to fight for you. Before battle, you'll select up to eight Geo Cubes to use, with five being randomly chosen in the game. To use the Geo Cubes, you must spend Geo Points that you accumulate. Finally, Demon Gadgets add a bit of chance to the game. Like Geo Cubes, these items will have various effects. However, they appear randomly on the map, are activated without any points, and have unknown effects until they're used. It's like playing Russian Roulette -- you got to hope for the best!
