Kaz Hirai says PS3-exclusive content adds extra flavor

He doesn't deny the importance of many devs moving to the multiplatform arena, saying, "When you consider the cost of developing on today's platforms, I think it's a logical progression that they're all thinking of making their games cross-platform ... But I think it's important that third parties use the unique characteristics of the platform to add a little bit of extra flavour to their games. For example, with the PS3, you've got the Sixaxis controller, or you could utilise the extra capacity provided by Blu-ray to add more levels, put on interviews with the developers or have your videos able to play in 1080p."
These ideas are a positive step if they catch on, but they're starting to pop up already. For the fans of Heavenly Sword, extra content has spread like a virus throughout the PlayStation Store over the past months. The Blu-ray edition of Warhawk has a ton of extra stuff packed into it. Stranglehold has a full HD movie packaged on the same disc as the game. Folklore has downloadable content planned for months to come after its release. The only thing missing are for multiplatform companies to jump on board and see how much stuff those Blu-ray discs can handle. Do you guys think this scenario will ever unfold, or would the entire industry have to support Blu-ray before it became the norm?

the blu ray version of warhawk has a ton of extra stuff??! sorry ps3fanboy.com but their is no way you can consider those videos (most of which are on the store) a ton of stuff, that's just ridiculous, it's an awesome though!

It's a shame that Sony hasn't done anything to entice developers to do this. The 360 is the platform that third party developers are targetting. The PS3 gets ports of 360 games with lower framerates and muddy textures.
Sony needs to produce some games on the platform that show off the horsepower, because this "more powerful platform" stuff hasn't yielded much fruit.

It just takes time. Slowly more and more games have the PS3 as the lead platform. Games can take almost two years to make so switching platforms can't be done instantly. And as long as companies are making money I see no reason for them to give a ship.
I just really want to see games like DMC4 and Assasins Creed to see what platform they look better on.

It's just a matter of time before playstation 3 takes over.

I dare say that GT5, Haze (maybe), MGS4, and FFXIII will be the true games for PS3. They are from the most famous lineup and they have shown a dedication to the PS platforms, so they have the experience, skills, and resource to truly show off the PS3. I will definitely be more inclined to buy exclusives than I am to buy cross platform, especially those from controversial publishers, like EA.

I doubt that any of the cross-platform games will ever be a measure of what the PS3 is capable of. Exclusives like Haze, FFXIII and MGS4 will give you a taste of the PS3's power.
Look at what we've seen so far. R6Vegas on both platforms, slightly better on x360...same goes for many other cross platform games. Oblivion was a nice exception.

IMO... I believe that once BD becomes the standard video format of choice, so to will 3rd party devs make the ps3 their primary platform for coding. If you consider when the ps2 was only adopted when DVD became the standard video format. While neysayers said the ps2 would never make it because of the DVD drive, how they were wrong.
