Network issues with 1.92? Sony is aware and trying to fix it

We contacted Patrick Seybold, Sony's Senior PR manager, about the ongoing network issues and he confirmed that Sony is indeed aware of it and are actively working on a fix. When he gets more details, he said he'd pass it on to us and of course we'll let you know as soon as we hear anything.
It's frustrating when a minor firmware patch breaks something major, but it's good to know that Sony is actively researching methods to ease our pain. Put down your pitchforks and torches folks, hopefully we'll all be playing Warhawk again soon.

This is officially the most useless update ever. No new features and it screws up the online. Why was this released again?
Solace @ Sep 5th 2007 6:24PM
supposedly, if you clear out your caches for your profiles, it'll fix the problem. worked for me.
Andy @ Sep 5th 2007 6:26PM
@2
How do you do that?
RPG @ Sep 5th 2007 6:56PM
Umm... I have no problems. It works fine.
Foom Man @ Sep 5th 2007 6:28PM
Just enable and disable your internet connection, worked for me.
Kevin @ Sep 5th 2007 6:32PM
I'm still problem free.
For now.
Nahum @ Sep 5th 2007 6:35PM

try clearing the caches.
NOTHAPPY @ Sep 6th 2007 4:41AM
This is funny....not only do they give us a 1.92 update which apparently does nothing on the surface, actually screw up what was an already crappy online experience they call the PSN.
Good work Sony, you really did gooooood this time.
If things don't improve, and i mean drastically improve, i'll be changing my 600$ paperwight for an XBOX360 elite.
Lord Madux @ Sep 5th 2007 6:45PM
AHAHAHAHAHAHAH
do they have a choice to work on it or not? dont think so buddy
ahhaahahahhaahah
WHERES THE GODDAMNED GAMES- THIS IS THE WORST HOLIDAY LINEUP EVER!!!!! ONMG SONY WHYYYYY!!!!????
lol
JKPierce @ Sep 5th 2007 6:46PM
I had the problem a few hours before the firmware went live, and little difficulty afterward. Five minutes or so of patience solved it, though. Not sure such a thing exists anymore.
a.j. @ Sep 5th 2007 6:56PM
no probs here, been playing Warhawk since Friday...
a.j. @ Sep 5th 2007 6:57PM
@7...man you're a fucking loser.
JCool32 @ Sep 5th 2007 7:05PM
I did the delete cache and it seemed to work, however Stats are still busted. I've played for the last 2 days and no stats updates.
The game is still incredible fun, however, you do feel a little shafted you win a bunch of medals and ribbons and all you get is bubkus and a smile.
Tim Parsons @ Sep 5th 2007 7:16PM
well i dont have warhawk so this dont bother me much though i have noticed in the past week espeically since the update i cant access the store sometimes and get alot of disconnects from PSN,. and in LAIR it freezes the whole system alot when you go into LAIR NETWORK,.
Snpo @ Sep 5th 2007 7:46PM
redoing my network connecting and running the test fixed it for me, its not that hard to do lots of people with the same problem on the playstation boards, the ones that were smart enough to read the non flame threads, saw the fix, so can we please put the fix up on the page "redo internet connection settings"
RazielDune @ Sep 5th 2007 7:36PM
no problems here.
Wayne @ Sep 5th 2007 7:42PM
I'd be pissed about this if there were even enough Warhawk Servers in my country. Why make an online only game then limit the number of players (on good servers) in Australia to 60? Idiots...
o1eyedwilly @ Sep 5th 2007 7:43PM
So then why does Sony not post something on thier website the moment they know something is wrong? I can't stand the way they handle PR.
irshliquor @ Sep 5th 2007 7:47PM
Mmm...Lobster Bisque.
kevin_254 @ Sep 5th 2007 8:05PM
i turned off and then back on my ps3 and it worked, wait u guys are getting the error message that says network timeout in warhawk ryt?
SoBeDragon @ Sep 5th 2007 8:28PM
Problems happened for me right after I updated. I've been reading forums and trying some of the suggestions that people have made. So far I've rebooted, turned my wireless internet on and off, did a connection test (ip address - check, internet - check, psn - instantneously fails) cleared my cookies and my cache, and recreated another account. Nothing has worked.
The weirdest part is how the PSN INSTANTLY fails...it doesnt even take a moment to try. It's just *blink* failed. I asked some of my friends if they're having an issue and they are all fine. The only thing I've noticed is that I have a linksys router, and neither of them do. Is there anyone else that's having a problem who uses a link sys router?
Wayne @ Sep 5th 2007 8:33PM
I'm getting the network timeout in Warhawk. It was bad earlier this morning, but now it's even worse. I can't even get on to play a game.
I've tried all the newbie fixes that make no sense and they didn't work.
PS3 and PSN is really starting to disappoint me...
John @ Sep 5th 2007 8:42PM
If I were "Lord Madux" I would own what I post, and not keep changing my name.
I haven't had any problems. Wait, I haven't even upgraded, yet...
deman @ Sep 5th 2007 8:52PM
its been working fine except for once when i was playing resistence online
stirlo @ Sep 5th 2007 8:53PM
i've had sporadic issues, getting disconnected from PSN, browser slow or not loading.. :( I have a linksys router too, i wonder if that has something to do with it.
All though router brand -shouldn't- make any difference if everything uses standards, who knows?
oh yah, and #7, shuddup and play your 360!
tane @ Sep 5th 2007 9:00PM
If you go to Network Settings and Test the Internet Connection. It seems to work fine after that...
wonway01 @ Sep 5th 2007 9:08PM
Mine gave me a network error the first time I started Warhawk directly after the update. I shut down the console and restarted it and have not had the error a second time. Lucky me. :)
k_nutCalgary @ Sep 6th 2007 1:23AM
sobe dragon im having the same problem as you and i also have a lynk sys router. right now im whiping my hdd it will take 3h 54 min , if that doesent work im going 2 be pissed. Tried calling sony but no one will take my call at the time
ill trooper @ Sep 5th 2007 10:32PM
Maybe it's coincidence added to superstition, but when I have this log-in trouble, I quit out of Warhawk and open the browser or the PSN store, then returning to Warhawk, which then seems to then respond... It feels like forcing another internet-based activity will allow the Warhawk connection to work.
Like I said, probably superstition!
Popfrogs @ Sep 5th 2007 11:14PM
#24: He can't, it's in the shop. Or, it will be in the shop when they find a box to send him to mail his broken one in. Box shortage..lol.
ShaggyB @ Sep 5th 2007 11:42PM
#24. linksys routers are known to go bad after time, ive been through 2 wireless G routers. I finally went with netgear. No issues with PSN or Live or for that matter WiiConnect24 yet.
#28. ooooo "Sick burn". in reality he still with a red ring'd 360 could be having more fun than a ps3 owner. Halo 3 has marketing to take part in. But seriously, Fanboys are annoying.
I have yet to experiance the problem and my copy of warhawk arrives this friday along planet earth in hd-dvd. (also pre-ordered spidey trilogy and Pirates 3 Blu-rays)
Andy @ Sep 5th 2007 11:49PM
@28
Can you delete that comment. As soon as someone says something like that they pounce like turtles.
@24
I've had those problems too. I have a D-Link but stuff like that just happens (at least to me). Every once in a while I lose my connection and have to resign in. And the browser just flat out sucks.
mccomber @ Sep 6th 2007 12:06AM
I'm having the network timeout error tonight. Since they still haven't gotten the rankings working again though, I'm not too upset. I enjoy the game and like to just play, but I want to get in and unlock some more customization options and earn some more ribbons and badges... oh well, quality Bioshock time instead.
John @ Sep 6th 2007 1:50AM
I found in the Warhawk forums that if you quit the game and sign out of your PSN account, it should take care of the network timeout issue (it did for me). Now if only my stats would unfreeze...
Popfrogs @ Sep 6th 2007 8:40AM
#30: Come on, Andy, if we can't troll a troll, who can we troll?
Dave @ Sep 6th 2007 9:45AM
PS3, never getting their act together.....
As an owner of both consoles I'm rather dissapointed.
djwaves @ Sep 6th 2007 9:58AM
ive only got a problem playing dvds now after the update no network issues so i hope they sort that or me and someone from the sony care lines will be having a little chat..... flame on!!!
sonic @ Sep 6th 2007 10:12AM
The XMB worked much faster than before for me
Foley @ Sep 6th 2007 10:20AM
My connection was working fine after the update but this morning I tried to connect and couldn't at all. I tried the test and my IP address doesn't even show up, with a "time out" message appearing. I've not saw many mentioning that even the IP address doesnt show up, unless when they say their connection "timed out" , it was before they connected, and not just before they were on the network (PSN). I don't understand how it was fine for a while then now just suddenly stopped. This better be fixed soon, apparently there's a stranglehold AND fifa demo on the store that a really want to play.
kung_Fu_Russ @ Sep 6th 2007 11:08AM
I got this advice and it worked for me:
Go to the XMB, go to network settings and run the test. Log back in, play warhawk.
kung_Fu_Russ @ Sep 6th 2007 11:11AM
....as for those criticising the linksys routers, I'm confused. I was told specifically to get a linksys WRt54GS after my belkin turned out to be useless. This model router was even approved by MS. The linksys has served me well. Now i have a ps3 instead, I am also having no probs with it.
ShaggyB @ Sep 6th 2007 12:32PM
Showstopper:
As an owner of all 3 consoles i do see what you are getting at but the fact that Resistance and Motorstorm were the only 2 games for the longest time shows the promise of Ps3 exclusive titles. The list stands at 5 games now
Resistance
Motorstorm
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Lair
Warhawk
of those 5 two have broken the mil mark. 1 is a re issue of an XBOX game, however beautiful it is... its still an old game at heart (I have it, loved it on xbox, like the Black version too). Lair wont break a mil because half the people who play it hate it and the other half love it (Im in that second camp). Warhawk has barely any bad reviews that arent about price and lack of single player. I figure itll break the mil mark (hell i just bought it, should arrive Friday)
I see your point in that BioShock in 1 week may have hit that mil seller mark and then you add the whole list of games that 360 has had do that, not to even mention Halo3's crazy preorders... with all that its clear that the ps3 vs 360 battle is done this year. 360 won. Hands down. But if it hadnt.... well that would be sad. Year headstart and all. In sales Nintendo won. Wii has caught up to the 360 in units worldwide sold.
So while i see your point I'll raise you the Wii-tard (aka wii fanboy) view.... If 360 was so great how come wii has caught and pass'd it in worldwide sales in less than a year. How come you cant find one on a shelf?
But all things aside good point on linksys.
vinny @ Sep 6th 2007 4:07PM
you would think sony would actually give these firmware updates a nice testing before they release it, seems like they think of an idea and boom, they release it the next day
Brad @ Sep 7th 2007 3:30PM
As soon as my system updated, I logged into the network, which took an abnormal amount of time...I easily connected to the Playstation Store to try to download the NBA Live 08 Demo. I clicked on it and it just sits there.
I then tried to play some Warhawk and that would also not work.
Finally, I thought I would make sure the update updated right, so I clicked on the "Check for New Updates" button and once again, it just sits there.
This needs to be fixed IMMEDIATLY!!!!
brian @ Sep 7th 2007 1:28AM
Have same problems as Sobedragon. Linksys router wrt54g vs8, unable to keep a consistent connection with the Ps3 network or the playstation store, keep getting signed out of the network with an error code, etc.., but can access the internet via the Ps3. My friend also has the same problem with his Linksys router. Everything worked okay, not perfectly, before this update now online is totally messed up.
crafty @ Sep 8th 2007 10:57AM
hhmm was hoping for a clue, my whole ps3 Bluray drive fails by this update running a japanese ps3 for a while, thought I gice the update a go to 1.92, now ps store resets connection and the games / bluray not work anymore, update soon sony boys! I gues im not the only one
brugesh @ Sep 9th 2007 8:45PM
man wtf my ps3 network hasnt been working for a while now how long is it going to take them to fix this problem god dam it its been two weeks now shit
dezkb @ Sep 10th 2007 12:05AM
I've been getting this error on my PS3 for days since I d/l the 1.92 firmware patch.
An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PLAYSTATION Network.
Error message 8002AA08 . I'd sign on at first...then after a minute...get booted off.
I tried everything...rebooting the ps3...deleting cache/cookies..."test connection"...tried port forwarding...even trying different combinations of security for my wireless router. I was about to give up and hope for a 1.93 patch or 1.92b..or whatever...
And then I discovered this guy's fix on the ps3 forums site (Trigue..props to you)...all I did was go to the "network settings" on the XMB....DISABLE the "search for media servers" (it's something like that..it's at the bottom i believe on the "network settings" list...and bam...the instant i did, PSN signed back on and I was able to get on Warhawk after two agonizing days...
Do all the fixes if you want...but that's what finally worked for me. Just make sure you set it to "disable"...and you should automatically sign back onto PSN.
The issue isn't the router...or the browser (I had browsing capabilities the whole time..)
I figure that when the ps3 boots..it signs on..and goes through a list of features to turn on...once it gets to the "search for media servers" function later down the line..it knocks you off the PSN.
So again...make sure you DISABLE that "search for media servers" options in network settings...it worked for me!
Nick @ Sep 10th 2007 1:42AM
How do I clear teh cache??
