Joystiq & PSPFB hands-on PSP-2000: Part 3
With the new PSP-2000 available in the wild, we decided to answer a few more questions in this final iteration of our ongoing series. Want to know what new background colors are in firmware 3.60? Want to see the TV out function in action? Check out this video overview we made, then check more questions after the cut.
Is the video out cable included in any of the bundles?
Submitted by: mike

If you are getting one of the bundled ones, does the game and the movie come in a slipcase or does it come in its regular plastic case?

What is the battery charge time for the PSP Lite? Is it faster than the original PSP?
Submitted by: Sai
The battery life doesn't have any noticeable difference. Once again, the amount of play time you get from a PSP varies from title to title. It can use the same charger as the original system, and because it has a reduced battery size, it will charge somewhat faster.
Are fingerprints very noticeable?
Submitted by: aymany
Fingerprints will show up, but the silver we have seems far improved over what we saw at E3. The paint job is nicer, the coating is much smoother, and fingerprints don't seem to stick onto the system as easily as before. However, fingerprints will still show up on the screen no matter what you do, seemingly.
Does the PSP Slim fit into the current Logitech and Sony hard cases?

Do the new earbuds come with the system?

Are you going to give one away?

That's the plan!

WHat about Remote PLay? Does that only work one way?,. or can you play the PSP on your TV via your PS3?,. I think it would be is lame if the PSPS can make use of the PS3 on it and not vice versa

I understand you need the Component Cables to play games on your TV. I have a CRT television that DOES have component inputs, but only supports 480i. Will I still be able to play games on my TV?

thanks for the update. :) I'm very excited about the new PSP coming out.

Very nice overview.
Is there still an option to have the wallpaper change every month? And if so, does it change to the same 12 colours as on the older firmwares?

It's really great that you went through the trouble of showing us the video out functionality in full. Comparing UMD to DVD was especially informative.
Thank you PSPFanboy!

Awesome!

I'm confused.
So the PSP DOESN'T come with the new headphones, and the old headphones don't work with it.
So does it mean that no headphones come with it?

what i want to know is did sony learn from the first system and fix the dead pixel issue that was sporadic and random in the older models?
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Sep 7th 2007 1:19AM
damn, I hope Logitech makes a new one! I don't trust my soft cases anymore after I found my screen broken :(
Muu @ Sep 7th 2007 9:15AM
The big problem with the PSP Lite's that I still want to use the logitech case, which weighs just as much as the PSP, meaning any decrease in weight is pretty much a moot point.
If Logitech comes out with a PlayGear Pocket Lite, though, we may be talking...

Christ! those borders were huge! I would really want a significant downsize in screen borders in a newer firmware. Unless your TV has zooom... hmmm...
dknight211 @ Sep 9th 2007 12:00AM
I have a question!
Is the PSP-2000 screen brighter than the old PSP (when compared at the lowest brightness setting, and next step, and so on).
Thanks!!!!!
atlysia @ Sep 9th 2007 2:31PM
i have one dead pixel on my screen it shows up as a small little discoloration during games but when web browsing its gone, it seems to blend in and disappear on the xmb so i guess i got lucky that its not too severe, but so far i am impressed with the system but i will admit i dont use the battery i always keep my psp plugged in when i play any game cause i know i play more than the battery lives and also i dont find the need to do any psp play without plugging it in.
Mike Farley @ Sep 11th 2007 6:43AM
does this psp fit in the old soft case?
Giovanni @ Sep 17th 2007 7:35PM
So your telling me that I can't use the composite cables to play games? Because the TV at my girls house only have composite in's, not component. That will suck because I already sold my old PSP to get the new one.
