PS3 game delay #3925: The Orange Box
Every time a PS3 game is delayed, a kitten is killed. Please, developers, help save the kitten population of the world and stop delaying PS3 games. It's getting silly. The latest game to fall behind its PC and 360 brethren is Valve's The Orange Box, as confirmed by Gamespot via communication with Valve's Doug Lombardi.The collection of five Half Life 2 related games will be released "a couple of weeks" after the PC and 360's October 9th date. There has been no reason given for the delay, but we put it down to the PlayStation 3 multiplat curse. Free cookies to the first game that comes out on all systems on the same day. Is that incentive enough for you, publishers?

The PS3 version of every multi-platform game getting delayed by 2 weeks is all starting to sound a bit too coincidental. I mean what does adding just 2 more weeks to a release date really give a developer or publisher time to do? That’s right; nothing… aside from giving the other platforms (read Microsoft) a head start that is.

I think it's time people stop saying XBL sux because of little kids screaming. TBH, of all the times played, I have NEVER, that is, NEVER, come across what all you people describe. Playing halo 2 and gears of war on XBL, u find the occasional faggot who insults u nonstop, but i have yet to meet a 12-year old high pitched-insulter. I live in canada right now, toronto area, there don't seem to be much of that, and same as when i lived in the silocon valley..i'm pretty sure u play on XBL with people closest to you to reduce lag..but comeon stop.

Its sad that the average fanboy isnt open to all three systems and that the trolls on here allow that belief to live on with there 360 rules comments on a ps3 only news site.

I hope that HOME brings something really next gen to compete because you are right.. But the PSN is making improvements you have to give it that... SLOW but improvements nontheless... A delay of a "couple of weeks" is usually due to a QA problem. Such as a glitch or bug.
If the delay was due to the PS3's architecture, then I would expect a delay that would push it back into '08.
Quit whining. I've never heard such outcry over a couple of weeks before.

This is going to happen every time a game is developed for 360 and ported to PS3.
As much as I'd like to believe in those MS payoff rumors, I don't think this is the case.
Just basic lazyness by developers working on a platform they're familiar with first, then expecting little problems with a vastly different one in the PS3.
I think Sony needs to do something to give developers an incentive to develop concurrently (like more and better dev tools - not cash! :D) instead of this common practice of base development for MS systems, then porting to PS3.

why would you even play a FPS with a Playstation Controller? it doesn't even feel right and playing on 360 feels more like you are firing a gun (whens that rumble SIXAXIS coming out?).
yeah you can play with a keyboard and mouse, but that's another purchase you might as well get it on PC.
and yeah, Live > PSN...for now at least.
also Heavenly Sword never got a bad rating. just lest than expected. Lair did get raped tho. Warhawk is the PS3's only saving grace till Uncharted or Rachet and Clank come out. but those aren't really system movers...

Now as to Lair and Warhawk. Lair came after warhawk due to delay and id say really bad rating by egm. (They claim online stuff but be serious that could have been fixed on the network side after launch ala motorstorm online mode) Lair was slated for early August. It got a terrible review and slipped to Sept 4th. Then Warhawk got awesome reviews and magically the onsale date for lair moved to Aug 31st. then Warhawk launched and suddenly Lair could be sold the next day.
That all being said it looks more that sony tried to make people forget about lairs bad reviews and sneak it out right after the high that was warhawk. Heavenly sword is next and it has been dinged on no jump button and too short with repedative enemies. We shall see how it fairs. I have seen many good reviews too. I would not count Lair as a downward slope as it should have been a dip before Warhawk not after. Heavenly sword's sales/reviews will prove your point for now... whatever they may be... (MetaCritic list it as an 80/100. With edge magazine giving it 60 and ign a 70 along with 2 other 70s. the rest being 80 or higher)

I don't think it's so much the PS3 is so hard to develop for, it just think it's a whole lot easier to develop for a MS box.
Most of these guys have been coding on Win-based enviromnment systems since they started programming.
So yeah, if you had a choice, you'd program for the more familiar processor/system.
As I said, Sony needs to step up and make some concessions to developers, in the form of coding assistance, dev kits, etc. so developers leave that comfort zone and learn the little tricks that coders learn after a year or two working with a new architecture.

If no reason is stated, what's the point in guessing? And PS3 is not always getting the short end of the stick, let's not forget UT3 is coming out for PS3 first.
And for those who own multiple platforms, please stop saying that to strengthen your point. It lacks any evidence or support, so it is a mere moot point.
I really have to say this site is getting harsher and harsher with the PS3 with every single passing day. I'm gonna guess it is based in EU and the mods aren't too happy with Sony these days with lack of update on PSN.

It hasn't even been a year yet. When the 360 first came out, it had a lack of games too plus their exclusives in the first year weren't nearly as good as Sony's. Alot of people seem to forget about that.
Your college course scenario doesn't really make sense to me but maybe it's just me. Why would I criticize Sony for making a console that had so much potential for gaming, just because it may be a bit harder to program for than the other console at this moment? It's been less than a year, developers will keep learning and getting better with the system, just like with anything else.
Insomniac and Incognito have given PS3 gamers two great exclusives within 9 months of the PS3's release, Insomniac at launch. Tell me, what did the 360 have as far as exclusives within the first 9 months of release that could compare to those? Heavenly Sword looks like another great exclusive that I'll be picking up on release, and let's not forget about what a great exclusive MotorStorm is. Sony destroyed MicroSoft's exclusive lineup within each console's first 9 months of release, and I'm sure that will continue to be the case. You have your way of looking at things and I have mine.

it actually comforts me to hear this.
ps3 is a complicated multi-core beast, quick and dirty ports *will* be poor.
it's good to hear studios taking extra time to get things right because the alternative ( a shoddy port ) would maybe make them a lot of money as they would be releasing passable games into a game-starved environment.
i.e. if a %75 complete orange box came out tomorrow a sh1tload of us would probably still buy it cause we've no-where else in PS3 realm to spend it.

That sucks. I have spent considerably more time playing Warhawk than Bioshock in the week and I thought that maybe the dry spell was over. Guess not. For those who actually care about the PS3: THIS IS A BIG DEAL. It's not Sony's fault for creating a difficult processor to program for, but it is their fault in creating a system that the masses would not buy. If the install base were there, I guarantee you would see far fewer delays.

#34. UT3 is out on ps3 first due to its compliance on the mod community. Epic used that to force MS's hand to build the live server thing they got so that user created content can be uploaded to the Cert process. I give cudos to epic for having the ballz to go for the juggular on MS. (glad they apart of my home community lol NC baby) Thats got nothing to do with which is harder to program for... And one small win vs many large defeats does not a battle decide. Plus Ps3 got Virtual Fighter 5 first and we all know how that worked out.
#35. 360 had a ruff start just like ps3 but at this point in 360s life cycle it had more than 4 "killer apps" out for the public to consume and had a much bigger franchise waiting for its fall release than ratchet and klank or uncharted. Gears of War was its system seller. I ask where is ps3's November system seller? Dont be so quick to spout out 360 poor launch titles when they started growing the lineup in march and ps3 has now just begun the push to hit hard, MGS 4 is the first major system seller game and its next year.
X-bots are annoying but please remember between the crazy "i love MS" and "sony sucks" talk they do have valid points that sony needs to address. And by all means where are the Wii-tards (wii fanboys)? Wii passing 360 in worldwide sales in under a year plus wii making money on console sales is reason enough to end the next gen war now. well for our purpass we will stop with Q3 2006 soooo 5.9 million units out there
compare that to the current 4.28 million as of June 30, 2007 for PS3 and you see that its a close race with xbox slightly favored but the chips not in yet. (August and Sept are part of Q3 if i recall right)
Resistance: Fall of Man was the first PS3 game to sell over one millon copies.
As of July 9, 2007, MotorStorm has sold more than one million copies becoming #2 to reach that goal
So thi issue is how does that all stack up to 360. Xbots are annoying but facts are even worse.

As a software engineer I just thought I should chip in and say that the PS3 is NOT hard to program for. Anyone who says that is either inexperienced or has not tried it. It is slightly different than programming for 360 and Windows, but not difficult (actually it's pretty neat). Now the thing that IS true is that the English developer kits are better for 360 than the PS3... Well DUH, a US product's instructions are easier to understand than a Japanese product? Wow, I had no idea there was a language barrier at all!

1 million mark on a game is generally what is known as a "system seller". Motorstorm selling 1 million units worldwide means that 1/4 of the owners of PS3 have the game.
4 million is known loosely as a "System Mover" It means the demand is so high for this game that it moves systems from the shelves to the homes. Lets look at my prvious post at Q4 for 360 right in the middle of Q4 is Gears of War. 4.4 Million 360s sold!!!. now give its the holidays. Also given its a time when you cant get a Wii and Ps3 arent abundant until after christmas (like january. not sure if thats cudos to sony on shipping or bad sales. id love to see a quarterly break down on sony ps3 sales) The point is 360 sold ruffly what it already had on the market in that set of 3 months. (5.9 out there and then it sold 4.4 more. thats impressive to say the least)
This is what ShowStopper is alude'n to with his comments. So far sony has 2 games that have been legit "system sellers" id wonder how the releases of those spiked sales, regardless hes wondering if anymore will make it this year. (Id call warhawk) and further more hes calling out ps3fanboys to present a game/conditions that will reproduce 360s Q4 2006 sales. So far looking at whats left i dont see it. UT3 first doesnt equate to better nor does it push a system (PC is still coming out this year) Uncharted and Ratchet are nitche games (they wont appeal to all ps3 owners... neither appeal to me personally) and thats it for this year. Will that result in 4.4 sales this christmas. (perhaps the pending 80 gig price drop to 499.99 will help. Who knows.)
Those are the facts people. Take it from a guy who has all three systems and plays each religously... Facts are hard but if games are the way you want to look at it 360 won. if Money is your deciden factor Wii won. If potential gets it done for you PS3 has it, lets see what happens

those are the bad reviews... it got a bunch of good ones too but the ones that were bad were written to damage. If you ask me a 70 is average infact a 60 is worth looking at why it was ranked as low and finding out for yourself.
hes not a dumbass for just reading the bad reviews, hes a dumbass for not reading the good ones (1up, GameDaily, Game informer, EGM, Play, and Gamepro all liked it with 80/100 or higher) Most agree its not God of War, but its a good game that will give Ps3 owners something to enjoy and thats the whole point.

Tards and Trolls: a new game, which has been in beta for some time, featuring the creepiest monsters you've ever seen! The game works like this: Tards and trolls post goofy comments to ps3fanboy, and ps3fanboys have to shoot them down!
The major criticism leveled at this beta game has been that it's too easy. The monsters are too easy to kill by using simple logic, proper spelling and use of apostrophes, and the occasional clever long-winded comment which they should all steal and give to their 10th grade english class as if they wrote it themselves.
There is also a medieval monster called a FlameTard which will constantly check back and see if you have posted a reply to his comment. These monsters stir up a lot of trouble, and gain points by how many people respond to them, by name. They hang around a lot, but they're ultimately no threat once you discover that they are, in fact, eunuchs.

Ive seen second life. Ive seen WoW and I am not impressed with Home in the way of it being a revolutionary step.

ps3 is powerful than xbox 360. no doubt about it. but the games are delayed.sony u better do something ,before its too late. help developers with some sort of middleware which they can feel better to program.otherwise microsoft xbox360 will take more advantage of it.dont loose your trust and reputation of fans around the world.
