PSP-2000 firmware already "dumped"

This doesn't have much significance to the end user, but it's clear that the PSP homebrew scene is still very active, regardless of what Sony may want. Bright people are at the heart of this effort, and they won't let something like a new firmware, or even new hardware, stop them.

Does it occur to anyone here rejoicing in this and capping on Sony's efforts that it's BAD for the PSP market? Bad for the future of the platform?
Ask yourself the tough questions:
Does open FW mean you can run an ISO loader?
Is there any way to prevent someone from making an ISO loader for ANY hacked FW?
Might the impression that the PSP is unsecure as a platform (piracy) cause developers & publishers to think twice before supporting it?
Is it important to have good new games coming out for the system, or are emulators good enough that it wouldn't matter if PSP support dies off?
Does the PSP have so many developers signed on that we needn't worry about the future? Is it OK if publishers abandon the platform?

Yes, but ISO loaders can be useful in a non-pirating sense.

There is, but that is against the point of having a hacked FW. Plus, they made ISO loaders for official FW.

Maybe, but good sales are good sales. If I know that I would sell 1 million copies, I wouldn't feel as bad about any possible "lost sales." There is no telling if any of the pirates would of bought it if they had to pay.

Good games will always come out until the system is dead. Plus when Sony does pull support, home brewers will have free reign to do whatever they want.

Hell ya I rejoice at this "pixelator". I love using my hacked psp to run emulation on games I have bought long ago. I have also bought over 20 games for the PSP.
Developers keep releasing rehashed compilations and charge us 20-40 for each one. Why the hell should I have to keep repaying for these games I have purchased at least once???? I can play them emulated. I still buy and play the newest PSP games that I want. The psp has had homebrew for a long long time and the number of developers has risen and not declined. If piracy was an issue you would not see sequels from big name companies would you? The number of games and type of games is still on the rise as well. So wake up and don't stereotype those of us that enjoy more of what the psp has to offer by saying don't be stupid. There is a whole world more than the official bits and scraps thrown to us via Sonys firmwares.

it is not a big deal :) sony is already used to being owned :p maybe one day some features from the psp2 can be ported to the original (i konow video out aint happening but maybe other features such as usb recharge)

ok~ if you're so proud of homebrew then in the end what you get is buncha homebrew application and maybe a little bit of cheap umd game that you can rip to play with. Or even worst. Sony stop supporting PSP and that's the end of your PSP. A psp that only have some homebrew application to play with. Who want to make game like god of war or crisis core or metal gear that take so much afford and in the end get nothing in return? The only happy news that homebrew can get is a custom firmware that doesn't play pirated ISO. -the end-

If the GBA, DS, and PS2 are any indication, I'd have to say "probably not". Publishers and developers go wherever the market share is.

It seems that it's already happening: the creator of Castlevania has hinted that Dracula X Chronicles could be the first and last Castlevania title for the PSP because of low software sales.

It seems quite easy to link low games sales with being able to play pirated games.
As great as free games sound, it might also mean that developers drop the PSP for the DS, and we will be the ones losing out. Sony should listen, but remember that Sony are not your enemy: they created the PSP in the first place!

TO: 'pixelator', 'Random1448', 'Tim Parsons', and any other haters out there that are not smart enough to change their FW to a CFW... That is the reason they hate and talk down on it. I been using CFW and supporting it since I bought a PSP the day it came out. And for the person that made the comment about "THANK YOU pixelator!!! They could have at least waited until it was out..If there is a delay I'm going to kill someone!" HELLO! I just bought mine yesterday from Target Stores and they were stocked to the roof with them. I don't know what kind of BFE town you are from but they have already been released and you can buy one on the net at various places.
Homebrew and CFW are not only used by pirates, I use homebrew and CFW on one of my PSPs and my son has another one that is Sony FW because he is too young to understand and use CFW to it's full potential. I own and have purchased many games new and 'used' (i.e. Gamestop) and it is convenient that if I RIP my already owned and bought games I can put several of them on my 4GB MSPD. Convenient, faster loading, no LOUD UMD spinning noises... So before any of you 'youngsters' start tearing up at the developers of CFW and the people that support and use it, learn the facts and stay in school!!!
Sony knows what is going on and lucky for them there are CFW developers out there to teach them about the power of their own product. I even read an article where some Sony developers and owners run CFW on their personal PSPs??? So if it is so bad then why are people that work with Sony using it?
I would like to see what all you nay sayers and negative commenters have to say about that?

Um, the GBA, DS and PS2 need HARDWARE to hack and play pirated games. The PSP does not - and is thus one of the easiest to hack systems to date. If you don't think commercial developers aren't aware of that, think again. And if you don't think it a negative effect on the PSP's perceived viability among publishers, go right ahead killing off your favorite system by advocating those hacks. Idiot.

Sorry, but I've got two PSP units running emulated FW 3.x. The reason I am (now) not in favor of LOUDLY BROADCASTING hacked FW is stated above in my previous post. Put down the jelly flavored dildo and the crack pipe and R E A D it again. Twit.
For the intellectually challenged: Of COURSE hacked FW and homebrew doesn't mean EVERYONE is a pirate. The point is, there ARE people running ISO loaders and hacked FW is what makes that happen. Sad but true. Eliminate open FW and you eliminate piracy on the system. End of story.
The PSP needs EVERY leg up it can get at this stage of its life. You drooling punks getting off on every FW hack are helping put nails into the coffin of the of the system. You may enjoy your emulators and other HB wares, but eventually, at this rate, that's ALL you'll have - because the development will have dried up. Say what you want about ports and rehashes, but there's lots of GOOD PSP games out there - and this is the best way to STOP that from continuing.

See all the new stuff coming for the DS? All those titles we're NOT getting? Hell ya Sony knows about how much pirating goes on, same as Nintendo and Microsoft. You can check any place you want but if you see say 2 psp titles on a place like BT then you will see 4 for the Nintendo DS and yet it has not hurt the DS market you fool. So I can call names like Pixelfuckinglater and Pixieass all day long so that I can rant like you. Bottom line you need to WAKE the FCK up and get off of your highhorse and realize that pirating on the PSP is a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of revenue of store bought games brings in.
