PSP firmware version 3.71 and downloadable themes on their way

Sony have updated the PlayStation.Blog to tell us that two new firmware updates will be available - one for PS3 and one for PSP. PSP version 3.71 will further improve the functionality given with update 3.70 which hit yesterday. 3.71 will add "many features" that the commenters on the PlayStation.Blog have requested. There's no word what exactly those will be, but they name the main new feature as being the ability to apply themes to your XMB. Wait, wasn't that added in 3.70?

Regardless, Sony have also said that new themes will be available for download at some point on PlayStation.com, the official PSP Site and the PlayStation Store. The PlayStation Store? That sounds great, but why stop there. We'd love to have demos, wallpapers and videos made available that way, too.

I have installed 3.70 on my SLIM. Custom Theme option is cool, i currently have the Cookie Icons with Black XMB Waves. Great update Sony! Plus music while viewing photos!

Looking forward to more themes!

I'm not upgrading until I can figure out how to install homebrew on my PSP Slim. Can any of you guys offer a hand please? The only equipment I have is what came in my Daxter bundle.

kaynyne, you need a Pandora Battery and a memory stick with certain files on them to get that to work. But yeah, custom themes were already on 3.70, Sony, wtf.

people who updated to 3.70 actually got the japanese update, which is why we got the PS spot, it's just 3.71 so those who got 3.70 can get the north american update.

From what I understand(I have 3.52-4 M33, so i wouldn't know firsthand) you can only have three themes in 3.70, to have custom themes on 3.70 PSP you need to replace one of the three.

This update, will probably allow you to install as many custom themes as you want.

beeing able to create our own theme on an in-psp program would be nice,downloading backgrounds,icon skins etc then mixing them together

to jell-o: i think the themes have the Sony signature files on them so it'd be hard to do, but not impossible!

Firmware 3.71 is now available on the japanese Playstation website. The description of the update doesn' mention any new changes, only some revisions depending on region.

How do I know when the next update will come out,and what is that icon (when you go to tools, then theme settings, then click theme) it's like a square with an antenna, it's wierd! (I think it might be because I stopped in the middle of downlading the update.???????????) After I finished installing the first update(3.70) there was something called game spot in japanese , after I installed (3.71) it was gone!what happened??

I had problem, please help me. I downloaded EBOOT.PBP and located on PSP/GAME/UPDATE, when I run, psp reboot and got error "The game colud not be started (DADADADA)" how can i update psp 3.71. I am using PSP ver 3.4.thanks

1. What the hell is a PS spot
2. When you download the files remove them from folder and create file In psp folder called THEME. (When it comes out of the folder it should have a .PTF at the end this is the only file you need) and Enjoy your new themes
3.You can create your themes using the theme creator at http://www.psp-themes.net/
4. You think there gonna Do this for the PS3 cause that would be a nice bonus.
