Yakuza 3 info revealed in latest Famitsu
As well as confirming our Eternal Sonata suspicions the latest issue of Famitsu contains a lot of information regarding Yakuza 3. The game will be a PlayStation 3 exclusive and will be set in 1605, as opposed to modern day as the previous games have been. Famitsu contains lots of pretty pictures of the characters and the real-life celebrities that they are based off.
One naughty NeoGAFer has scanned in the pages showing all the info and images. We're excited about this game, even though we haven't played any of the previous ones. From the looks of things though, it promises to be Onimusha without the demons. Which is fine with us!

Evidently Yakuza2 is still in production for PS2..or they've decided to scrap it and release the 3rd one for PS3. Not sure what Sega is doing here.

ahhh look at the cast, Matsuda Shota in it O_O hopefully SEGA will use the space on the BD and leave the Japanese voices and English if they do decided to record one but mostly I hope for a UK release of the 2nd one and this now.

Awesome news!
Yakuza was my favorite new franchise out of last generation.
Any Shenmue fanboys really missed out if they didn’t play this. While not as innocent and charming as Shenmue, it really shared a lot of elements and created a new badass character. This is big news for PS3 owners if it gets a NA release.
I hope the arterial sprays are glorious.

@9 Yakuza2 came out last year. Why it didn't get much press I don't know cause it was a good game.

I LOVE feudal Japan. I now can't wait for this game.
Hope they leave an option for Japanese voices though. I heard the dubbing killed the US version of Yakuza.

Yakuza in the past??!! O_O
NOW IT'S STATUS IS CHANGED TO:
must have.
Well, for me at least! =D

I have the first Yakuza and I thought it was a pretty decent game. It had a few kinks like camera issues, and the occasional control problem during combat, but I learned to deal with it. The story was an above average gangster flick, and could easily be a real movie. Add in the leveling-up components, unlockable side-missions and mini-games, and Yakuza ends up a worthy PS2 game. Not for everyone, but for those gamers who put in the effort it has a decent payoff.
I heard Yakuza2 was planned, but it kinda fell of my radar and I don't know if got released. Hearing that Sega is going forward with Yakuza 3 is good news. It will be interesting to see how it does on the PS3. If the problems from the first game are addressed and worked on, Yakuza 3 for the PS3 could be a great game.

Yakuza 2 Released in North America Sept. 5, 2006.
Now import only. I have it so it did come out in the U.S., all who missed this game missed a good one.

Don't know why the wiki link didn't work but you can google Yakuaz 2 video game wiki to get to the page I tried to link to.

@17 & 18
Here is the actually link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakuza_2
And according to both the wikipedia entry and the IGN page, Yakuza 2 was released on December 7th, 2006 in Japan ONLY.
The game that was released in N America on September 5th, 2006 is Yakuza, not it's sequel Yakuza 2. The only way to obtain a copy of Yakuza 2 in N America is by importing it from a dealer like play-asia.com.
I bought Yakuza right after it got released here in the US, and if Yakuza 2 had ever been available here I would have bought it as soon as it was released. You have your facts wrong and I wonder how anyone who actually played Yakuza could have possibly gotten it confused with it's sequel. There is no number 2 on the cover of my game, is there one on yours?
