Limited Edition FF VII PSP Slim causes huge lines in Japan
Wired's Chris Kohler is reporting that the just released Final Fantasy VII PSP Slim pack is causing long lines in Japan and he's got the photos to prove it. While initially it didn't appear that the lines were that long, when he picked up his ticket he found out he was 551 in line. After waiting around with a bunch of homeless guys, he was finally able to drop the 25,000 yen to pick up one of the coveted PSPs.
The limited edition package comes with Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, a special numbered PSP with artwork on the back by Tetsuya Nomura, Final Fantasy earbuds, and a Buster Sword cell phone strap. While he wasn't overly impressed with the package, it still seems like a pretty damn cool purchase to us. It will be interesting to see what the release of the limited edition PSP and Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core will do to the weekly sales in Japan. It seems like it could pretty easily double the normal sales rate of the handheld there. Final Fantasy is magic like that.

Man, it would be awesome if Squenix released that psp in NA. I could easily hold out on buying a slim, if they released that bundle here.
I don't want Darth Vader on my psp. I'm a big Star Wars, but I'll pass on that. A GoW psp would sick as well.

I remember they did this for the PS3 launch too - businessmen paying homeless guys to wait in line for them, then selling the PS3 on online auction sites. I wonder how far we are from that in the US.

There are no homeless people in Japan, only America... duh.

Am I the only one that has noticed the 500 inch tv screen on top of the store entrance?

LOLZ on the Gaijins standing in line...
Good news that the PSP still lines em up. Now we need the games coming and higher attach rate, otherwise I fear 2008 will be the 'Beginning of the End' for the PSP market worldwide.

It's cool that they actually include the UMD boxes in that package, unlike with every other Sony PSP set.
Classy.

snake79 @ Sep 14th 2007 12:57AM
if it's final fantasy, i'm not surprise. It's the biggest game in the asia. especially if it's FF7. nothing came close

Yeah we have homeless in Japan. Even when you look at the maps on the sidewalk you can see the parks location and beneath it, it says "For People who cannot go home." But still doesn't look like NA bums though. They all look like they're having a fest or a picnic.

ign confirms- sold out already, all 77,777

VGC has the first day number out. placing Crisis Core's selling number at 350K. for the FIRST day, I personally predict 550K for this week and 2 million in this lifetime in Japan. That should outsell Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and becoming the best selling PSP games in Japan.
I just got my copy from eBay today, FANTASTIC. I beg all the people here to go out and buy a copy when this comes to US and show the developers that if they make a good enough game, people will support it.

Cant wait to get this.
