New Crisis Core video makes us very very jealous
With no solid American release date for Crisis Core yet, videos like this just make the wait all the more painful. Has anybody out there imported it? If so, how gaijin friendly is it?

kingofwale @ Sep 14th 2007 4:47PM
just got my copy yesterday. I think I'm the ONLY one here with a copy (outside of evil pirates). :)
and yes, I do feel very superior right now.
fantastic game, I'm already 7 hours into it. I'd give it 9.4 out of 10. only flaw is the lack of leveling up.
PSP_Amigo @ Sep 14th 2007 5:05PM
Get GOW first then you can feel superior ;)
Jordan @ Sep 14th 2007 5:09PM
I've "imported" it.
I'm a total gaijin.
I got stuck pretty early on, multiple times. For instance, to start missions you have to select a save point, then open up your menu, select some seemingly obscure Japanese menu item then pick the mission. After I completed the mission, there were no other missions to complete and the guard at the door wouldn't let me though.
So in conclusion, its probably best to know the Japanese, or at least be able to type what you see into a translator or something if you get stuck.
NukeAssault @ Sep 14th 2007 5:45PM
This games is gonna be so awesome.
Risingsun @ Sep 14th 2007 5:50PM
As much as I hate final fantasy and everything it represents, I'm really glad to see this game on the PSP. It the kind of game that will make a lot of people take notice of the PSP platform and we all benefit from that. So even if I never play them, keep those games coming Square-Enix.
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Sep 14th 2007 5:52PM
I'm guessing Square-Enix will announce a US release date at TGS, probably alongside the new Kingdom Hearts game announcement.
Oh and by the way, to the PSP Fanboy editors, you forgot to mention that yesterday was the official release date of the PSP Slim in the US. I know it was leaked before, but you could've written a little article about how Sony was happy about selling it early.
Dreadhead541 @ Sep 14th 2007 5:55PM
you can look at a lot more gameplay videos here:

@kingofwale, you do level up, it's just completely random
Kattleox @ Sep 14th 2007 6:27PM
Other JRPG nerds:
Was that the little town that Cloud was crazy in and the lifestream broke open on the second disc? I can't recall. If so, my pangs of nistalgia may force me to import.
*grrblbblrg* Nevermind. Pangs of hunger may force me to import this.
kingofwale @ Sep 14th 2007 7:05PM
>@kingofwale, you do level up, it's just completely random
hence why I detest it, because it's completely random, I leveled up twice in one battle, and didn't for next 2 hours. I mean, technically, if you're unlucky, you're screwed.
@Jordon.
all you have to do is to open the locker number 6
Saigon @ Sep 14th 2007 7:55PM
"As much as I hate final fantasy and everything it represents"
What exactly do they represent? Besides high quality rpg games.
@kattleox
I think your talking about the town Mideel.
I'd love to play through the Japanese copy, but I want the game to be fresh to me when I get the NA version. I love FF7 TOO MUCH to ruin this game for myself, by playing something I can't understand. :P
NotAFanboy @ Sep 14th 2007 8:55PM
w8 kingofwale didnt u say somethin lyke "Most people use psp for homebrew12!2213!"
brendan_ngo @ Sep 14th 2007 9:09PM
HEHE i got this game Now its so damn beautiful cept that i can't read japanese its real confusing for me XD
kingofwale @ Sep 14th 2007 10:26PM
>12. w8 kingofwale didnt u say somethin lyke "Most people use psp for homebrew12!2213!"
hmmm, no, but I believe you were thinking the time when I defending homebrew when people are implying it as if it means "piracy", I said Homebrew helps free PSP to people creative enough to add content to a console that has HUGE potential that is otherwise untapped yet.
and I went on to say that Piracy is not a huge deal on PSP as people believes. Sure Sony will want you to believe it's a HUGE deal and that everybody who has a CE is a pirate and should be locked up, and that it's KILLING the industry. Pretty much the same thing RIAA and MPAA are telling us.
and if you notice, I'm (as far as I know) the only person who paid 75 bucks to import this game from Japan (via eBay)
Saigon @ Sep 15th 2007 12:21AM
"Sure Sony will want you to believe it's a HUGE deal and that everybody who has a CE is a pirate and should be locked up, and that it's KILLING the industry. Pretty much the same thing RIAA and MPAA are telling us."
Sony has never tried to make us believe any of that. Yes, they don't like homebrew because it allows for piracy. But I've NEVER seen Sony try to suggest that it's a huge deal and that it's killing the industry, or that every CFW user is a pirate. Comparing Sony to the RIAA and MPAA? WTF?!?! Hell, Sony on some rare occasions have said positive things about homebrew, and said it's given them ideas on features they could add to official FW.
"and if you notice, I'm (as far as I know) the only person who paid 75 bucks to import this game from Japan (via eBay)"
No, I don't "notice". I'm not saying you're pirate(even though maybe you're), but you haven't provided any proof that you did actually buy this game. Now, maybe it's me, but the more you obviously try to have us believe you're not pirating, the more I don't believe you. That's probably the vibe that NotAFanboy was getting as well. It's not like pirates are going to admit they download games. Hell, I remember one retarded hyprocrite who I knew was a pirate, and he posted about how we all need to support psp games by buying them. Anyways, my point is that pirates are going to deny stealing games, so they don't get banned or ridiculed.
"HEHE i got this game Now its so damn beautiful cept that i can't read japanese its real confusing for me XD"
That's exactly why I'm waiting for the NA version. ;)
annoyed @ Sep 15th 2007 12:39AM
I agree with Saigon 100% there. King the more you try to defend it the more and more of a pirate you sound. Many people have imported it and your not the ONLY one. You seem to harp on the fact you"bought" it and in reality if you did you wouldnt make such a big freaking deal about it. Either post a pic of it or shutup because the more you talk the more obvious it is you downloaded it. And where exactly did you "get" it from yesterday? Most sites didnt even begin shipping them until yesterday and I doubt you got one that fast.
Anyway on topic, ive played it briefly on a friends psp who did in fact d/l it and I was very impressed. Not usually an rpg fan but ill check it out when its released here. I would d/l it myself but i bought a slim which atm is on fw 3.70
GoBob @ Sep 15th 2007 8:58AM
Jebus Crust, can't we at least keep the homebrew vs. anti-brew/piracy wank for actual articles involving homebrew and CFSs????
I was much more impressed with this CC video. I've seen clips of the Angeal/Genesis/Sephiroth fight scene, but this is the full video:

kingofwale @ Sep 15th 2007 9:31AM
of course Sony is not against homebrew... other than actively upgrading its firmware to discourage it. and oh. this
http://kotaku.com/gaming/banhammer/sony-bans-psp-homebrew-talk-on-forums-297088.php
and I never said I want anybody to believe me. I was simply defending the homebrew community as a whole.
now. back to the topic.
@GoBob
yeah, I am now 8 hours into this and I just saw the video in its entirety. Wow, what a great cut-scene.
Saigon @ Sep 15th 2007 1:03PM

"
Uhmm, in my first post, I never argued that Sony *wasn't* against homebrew. So yeah, please learn to read. I simply said you're point is **UNTRUE** about Sony trying to promote ideas to psp users, that homebrew is killing the industry, that everyone who uses CFW is a pirate, and that it's a huge problem.
"and I never said I want anybody to believe me.
Sure, I know you never said it. But as me, NotAFanboy, and Annoyed can probably agree, you obviously are trying to have us believe you. But, we all seem to have an idea as to why.
kingofwale @ Sep 15th 2007 2:55PM
>you obviously are trying to have us believe you. But, we all seem to have an idea as to why.
like I said, I don't care if you believe me, although I do find that certain people would go as far as questioning everyone who owns a copy of CC quite laughable. Could this be from Sony PR to discredit anybody who owns a CF? who knows, I do love my conspiracy theory.
think anything you want, me highjacking planes to Japan to get my copy for all I care.
If you don't mind, I'd love to talk to someone who ACTUALLY played the game, as this is the actually topic of this post.
back to random Leveling. Just go up 3 levels in 2 missions (both on EASY), how sad. magic mixing is fun, but confusing as hell. It's as fun as Jeanne's magic mixing, but without a guide.
Still. probably the best game on PSP this year.
Saigon @ Sep 15th 2007 4:54PM
"Could this be from Sony PR to discredit anybody who owns a CF? who knows, I do love my conspiracy theory."
I'm starting to find it amusing how often CFW users tend to use that weak comeback. I myself do use CFW, so your stupid "conspiracy theory" can't involve me. Also, none of my comments have have tried to discredit CFW owners.
"I don't care if you believe me"
Lol, it's pretty obvious you do care if we believe you. Seeing as you've continued replying to the people who are accusing you of being a pirate.
kingofwale @ Sep 15th 2007 5:31PM
sadly, you're the only one who STILL wants to talk about piracy/homebrew. I want to talk about the GAME itself.
Let me try this one more time.
Has anyone finished the game yet? I am personally 8 hours into the action and still only 25 and just met the girl (I'm sure there's no need to mention who I'm referring to). I'm starting to get sick of all the missions.
Saigon @ Sep 15th 2007 7:15PM
"sadly, you're the only one who STILL wants to talk about piracy/homebrew.
I never did want to talk about piracy. My original intention was to simply correct the idiotic statements you were making. And also point out that from the comments you've made, you do indeed come off as a pirate.
kingofwale @ Sep 15th 2007 8:02PM
aw, how lovely, so, why are you still in a Crisis Core thread?
I suppose you really have NOTHING to add to any conversation about Crisis Core, how disappointing.
cafecito @ Sep 15th 2007 8:25PM
Thing is, you do sound like a pirate. And I'd go as far as to bet a hundred bucks you did download the game :P ... But that's none of my business.
Anyway.
Absolutely no news about a US release? I'm kinda freaking out just watching at the videos. I'd import, but japanese writing is completely indecipherable for me. Sheesh, I'd actually have better luck trying to read egyptian hyeroglyphics.
Saigon @ Sep 15th 2007 8:57PM
"I suppose you really have NOTHING to add to any conversation about Crisis Core, how disappointing."
Uhh, ok? Is that suppose to insult me? *rolls eyes*
@cafecito.
There's still no news of US release, unfortunately. I'd bet money they're localizing it right now. I'm hoping they announce a NA release date at the Tokyo Game Show.
farfisa @ Sep 15th 2007 9:30PM
So, anybody know a fast way to learn Japanese? Like something easy?
kingofwale @ Sep 15th 2007 9:38PM
>27. So, anybody know a fast way to learn Japanese? Like something easy?
yeah, under the "help" section in the menu page, just memorize the first 2 characters. :), that's what's been helping me through the game so far. That and asking for help through Gamespot.com
the combat system's quite simple, it's really the materia mixing that needs to get used to.
@cafecito
I will take your bet. 100 bucks. to prove it, I will show you my ebay account's purchase, along with a sign picture of my PSPfanboy.com's username with CC case and the UMD disc.
heck, I will even donate your 100 dollars to a charity of your choice.
just show me the money. :)
Saigon @ Sep 15th 2007 9:39PM
As far as I'm aware, there's no fast or easy way to learn any language. :(
annoyed @ Sep 15th 2007 9:46PM
Bottom line is this king. If you just wanted to discuss ff cc you would not continue to reply to Saigon. If you dont care simply dont reply, the more you are doing the more and more immature you sound and by being you defensive I doubt you have it all, much less played it Legally. Your trying to sound like a more mature person but you sound like a dumb know it all kid, who is lieing. Unless you post a pic of the box then everybody here that reads this realizes you as a liar.
Jetspike @ Sep 15th 2007 10:52PM
Hahah, it's funny that someone on here actually thinks he is the ONLY person with the game considering it's already been out 4 days now and you know, there are actually people on this board who live in Japan (and hence got a copy of the game on Thursday). But anyway, about the game...
Overall I think the movie scenes are very impressive and there's alot to be nostalgic about (from the characters to Shinra HQ to Midgar, etc). The battle system is new which is nice but alot of times there's just alot of button smashing. When you reach save points you can do mini-missions which warp you to a small map and you usually just have to beat a boss monster and get it's item to complete the mission. But the difficulty of the monsters increase as you do more missions so I found it easy to get lost just doing the missions and not really advancing the plot (especially since doin the missions nets you some nice items like new materia etc).
The only real negative aspect of the game so far other than the button smashing is that there's alot of breakup in the action. During the 1st few hours of the game, you mostly fight for 5-10 min and then watch 10 min of dialogue and CG. Being able to understand Japanese it's ok, but for those without Japanese knowledge it might be a bit too much storyline if you really wanna enjoy the game. Other than that, I think it's an interesting new battle system and a pretty decent game thusfar.
Lord Rinja @ Sep 16th 2007 2:24AM
I just got my import today. I'll let you know how friendly it is once I open it. I'm really psyched to play it though. When I picked this up, I also notced that Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fate came out for the DS. It's a good time to be a Final Fantasy Fan :-)
Jetspike @ Sep 16th 2007 6:05AM
Well, I think Rings of Fate is decent in comparison to Revenant Wing, but it seems like it would be much more fun multiplayer. The single player campaign is ok, but I wouldnt give it much of a rating above a 6 or 7. With all the dialog, I think Crisis Core (sucks you cant even abbreviate CC cuz it can mean Crystal Chronicles) is much less forgiving if you cant understand japanese, but it's also a much better game than Ring of Fates imo.
Lord Rinja @ Sep 16th 2007 11:18AM
Allright, I finally got around to playing my copy of Crisis Core. Honestly, this game is not for the novice importer. I've imported a lot of games in the past like Golden Sun: The Lost Age, Tales of Eternia (Japanese Version), Monster Hunter Portable and Tenchi No Mon (AKA Heaven Key Earth Gate and Kingdom of Paradise). I have found all of those RPGs and others I have imported as well were much more import friendly than Crisis Core. However, if you are not a novice, you will find your way around this game. Oh, btw I know this has been mentioned a billion times but this game is even more incredibly drop dead gorgeous in person. I love the new action based engine becase it takes timing and doesn't feel like a button masher. The enimies are 100% sick right from the get go. Cutscenes are seemlessly intergrated right in the heat of battle. It may be an action based engine but it still feels like Final Fantasy with a hint of Star Ocean. Overall, great game. I give it a 9.6.
abner @ Sep 17th 2007 3:49AM
could that be corel? the town barret sold out for shinra?
