PSP Fanboy hands-on: Logan's Shadow

The core of Logan's Shadow's success comes in its unrelenting pursuit of bringing a true console experience to the handheld. This is easily the most advanced Syphon Filter yet, allowing players to perform a variety of moves that establishes Gabe Logan as a true badass. Logan has a variety of moves at his disposal: stealth moves allow the player to grapple enemies and dispose of them in unique context-sensitive ways. Sneaking around, taking cover, peeking and blindfiring will be familiar to those that have played Gears of War, and its impressive that the controls translate so well on the PSP's admittedly limited interface. There are so many "wow" moments in the game that handheld gamers would never have expected. For example, in one of Logan's misadventures, he'll have to fight a submarine underwater. Given complete 360 degree freedom whilst fighting enemies underwater and figuring out how to defeat a submarine is one of the most epic experiences I've seen in all of handheld gaming ... and that's just one of the many brilliant set pieces to be found in Logan's Shadow.
There's a lot to rave about the game, but we're not allowed to talk about the game's latter half, which features some truly spectacular moments. Rest assured, it appears that Logan's Shadow will be the single best game ever made for PSP, provided you're a real hardcore gamer. Casual players will be offput by the complex controls and somewhat daunting difficulty level. The incredibly long levels also do the game some harm: gamers will have to devote a hefty amount of time to each level, with each individual level taking upwards of thirty minutes of continuous play. However, with a compelling story, great graphics, and exciting gameplay, you'll want to devote a lot of time to the game. Expect the full review soon.

Wow, I'm really looking forward to this now!

Meh. I played Dark Mirror, loved it to death, and ordered the downloadable demo for Logans Shadow. It's the exact same, if you played the first stealthily. You don't need to blindfire or wrestle away weapons if you are hiding and popping caps in domes.
Not that I think this will be bad, but with CCFFVII and GoW coming out "it appears that Logan's Shadow will be the single best game ever made for PSP" seems like a bit of an overstatement. When you play through the former, let me know your feelings.

Kattleox ... is that you ( im Pastehunter ) ? Anyways , nice impressions , but I to find it a bit much saying the best PSP experience ever . And the credibility further gets a hit when saying that STS looks batter than this ( thats a tactical game , not a non stop action game ) .
PSP_Amigo @ Sep 15th 2007 1:51PM
ok Andrew,,, how can you really make a statement like " it appears that Logan's Shadow will be the single best game ever made for PSP". Gee, thats sounds like you have a woody for ir. I am sure it is going to be great but best game ever made is not in the eye of the beholder nor is it in the eye of the moderator, the best PSP game is in the eye of every single gamer out there. It is a matter of ones perspective and it depends on what the individuals tastes are. I think this game is going to rock but I will hold judgement until I have played this game and when I have played GOW. I still resent your statement and this is not the first by saying "comes in its unrelenting pursuit of bringing a true console experience to the handheld"
This is like you are saying that the PSP has not done this already. That is simply not true as time and time again there are so many titles (too numeroud to name here) that brings the console experience to the palm of your hand. I don't mean to rant and I am sure this game is AWESOME save the incorrent ravings.

@ PSP_Amigo: It's his own personal opinion. It's up to the reader to decide if his opinion is reliable or not.
And I think it is because Syphon Filter games for the PSP have been fantastic before.

Chill dude, everyone is entitled to their opinion. This is obviously going to be a good game, will this be the best PSP game ever? I personally don't think it will, but since Andrew does, we just have to agree to disagree. is there a need to get our panties in a twist? ;)
Although I will pass on this, not a fan of FPS at all.
cafecito @ Sep 15th 2007 8:06PM
So, does it have a new/better control scheme? I hate the whole FPS gameplay thingy.
farfisa @ Sep 15th 2007 9:21PM
Dark Mirror was amazing. It took me a while to get it and then I wondered why all the other PSP games I had came nowhere close in terms of production value. I'm really looking forward to the next installment--they really could have just done more of the same and pleased a lot of people. The fact that they're upping it so much is very impressive.
"only falling shy of the upcoming SOCOM: Tactical Strike"
as they'd say on Arrested Development:
"her?"

Appearently it uses the same control scheme as it is referred to as complex and offputting (if that's not a word, don't jump on my back."

Pastehunter? Gamespot pastehunter? Long time, no see/hear/type.
Saigon @ Sep 16th 2007 1:59AM
"he'll have to fight a submarine underwater."
Awesome!! That is epic.
The Clunge @ Sep 16th 2007 5:00AM
Looking forward to this more and more, but I hope this time multiplayer isn't loaded so heavily against new players. Giving the weak basic weapons to first time players and giving an firepower advantage to people who have already got a skill advantage through more play and map knowledge, really made it hard and frustrating to get in to.
Mr Khan @ Sep 16th 2007 6:04PM
Always good to see something taking full advantage of all resources
General Question: Out of all the good PSP games this fall (Renegade Squadron, this, SOCOM TS) what is reckoned to be the "game of the year?"
Brandon @ Sep 19th 2007 1:06AM
I just finished Dark Mirror, and am seriously looking forward to this Shadow, but I have to agree with everyone else on the "greatest game" statement...Kratos just might kick Logans ass!
