*Update* Sega's Scott Steinberg joins with Sony's Marketing Division

Sony contacted us and clarified that Scott Steinberg is not Karraker's replacement, but instead heading up SCEA's hardware, software, and channel marketing division. So that means Karraker's position as "Senior Director of Corporate Communications" is still open -- any takers?

If you've been a fan of Sega's for a while, you'll have heard the name of Scott Steinberg. He was the former Marketing VP of Sega in its heyday and will now replace Dave Karraker as head of Sony PR. He'll report to Peter Dille and be responsible for all PlayStation hardware, software, and channel marketing as of October 1st. Steinberg, in addition to Sega, has worked for multiple different companies including Roxio/Napster, Liquid Audio, Eidos Interactive and Crystal Dynamics. He worked with Sega during the Genesis days, evaluating development and licensed properties.
Peter Dille released his thoughts on the new hire, saying "We are thrilled to have Scott join our team as he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the PlayStation marketing staff and the management group here at SCEA. Scott has an ideal blend of experience in digital entertainment and content delivery as well as a proven track record for strategic innovation and implementation within this industry. He will be a critical component for the success of our marketing efforts across the PlayStation brand moving forward." We'd also like to welcome Scott on board. Welcome, Scott! Do us fanboys proud!

This dude is a badass, and maybe one of the few marketing people in the industry that aren't replaceable with another talking head clone. Hopefully he'll be behind a _real_ marketing campaign and he'll force Sony to start airing commercials that show games (what a novel idea right?). The televisions spots I've seen lately for HS are exciting and we need 10x the commercials to quell the noise from Halo3.
Halo3 has a marketing blitz like I've never seen before. Too bad the beta testers are saying COD4 is more fun.

All I could think of was the audio clip for SEGA everytime you started up Sonic. Good time good time.

@ popfrogs...
i actually saw a PS3 game commercial for the first time yesterday.
for heavenly sword.
the commercial was awesome. and i saw it twice.
wonder if steinberg is onto something! B-)
either way, sony should keep it up.
it was playing during the football game....millions of viewers.

@3 - I haven't watched TV much for a long time, but though I do like their marketing aggression, I hope they are appealing to the right demographics. Heavenly Sword seems good for football games, but maybe better for a movie channel and makes the people watching an action thriller want to do those stuff themselves. It would be a bad idea to air an ad for RPG during football games.
I hope Mr Steinberg uses smart marketing like Apple and really advertise the abilities of the PS3 and PSP instead of alluding that it is "B3YOND".

@2: Hahah...yeah that really stuck. "Sayyyy-guuuuuhhh"

@ Justin - It's about time. I've wrote Sony a few times complaining that they don't show commercials on television, and when they do it's at random times of day. Plaster them in places that people actually watch, like the game you saw, or on MTV, or durring (insert random popular evening network television show here).

@4 I call BS. I loves me some RPGs and some football. If only they would make a jRPG/Football game. Hot, scantally clad, japanese anime chicks tackling each other ... on a field of jello. Yeah okay, you guys dont need to know what my dreamms are like, but I am sure you get the picture.

Not surprising, this guy seemed to be a fan of the PlayStation Brand. I remember a few months ago, he called the Wii a Fad and said the PS3 would ultimately win.
Popfrogs @ Sep 17th 2007 5:18PM
@9. In my opinion, the Wii is a fad, and it's suffering the same fate as the Gamecube...not enough 3rd party titles. When people talk about the Wii, what do they mention? Wii sports. Metroid. LoZ. All first party titles. This leads to the 432nd Mario game, and many people are tired of their stale IPs.
Feel free to flame, just stating what I see.

Am I the only one who feels these sites need a new comment system? Like allowing us to do replies like in Joystiq versus doing @ all the time. Kind of funny trying to go through pages of comments to find people alluding to your name or one (or more) of your comments.
Popfrogs @ Sep 17th 2007 5:36PM
@11: Hey, it worked for Digg for what, 3 years or so? They just now got around to adding a proper threaded comment system like Slashdot.
But yeah I agree. We need a better forum here.

I bet UKResistance are feeling a bit blue right now. They are the laughing stock of the Internet. LOL.
