The Eye of Judgment to be released Oct. 23 for $70
The game, which features the word judgment with only one "e" in its title, will be released for $70 on Oct. 23 in North America, followed by a global launch later in the month. Yes, it will be bundled with the PlayStation Eye, and expansion packs will be available to buy further down the line.
Lastly, Sony has implemented a system to disallow online cheating by forcing users to register their decks offline. Their decks will then be available to be chosen when they play against an online opponent and will be randomly shuffled and drawn by the game. Players will then have to play their corresponding physical cards in the "real" world.
For a much more in-depth explanation, keep reading on.
[Thanks, Ruben!]
- The Eye of Judgment will be priced at $70 and will include the game, PlayStation Eye, the battle mat, a starter deck that includes 30 Summoning and four Function cards and a booster pack that contains eight random Summoning cards with one rare or ultra-rare guaranteed to be packed in.
- Sony's virtual card game will ship in North America Oct. 23, followed by a global launch at the end of October.
- Further down the line, expansion packs will be introduced that promise to bring gamers more powerful creatures and spells that will alter gameplay mechanics to keep the game "fresh."
- Sony already has a plan to keep gamers from cheating online. Before playing online, you will have to register your Summoning deck offline. Then, when you log in online, select your desired deck and are paired against your foe, the game will automatically shuffle your deck and randomly select which cards are drawn through the game itself. You will then be forced to draw the selected card from your physical deck and play said card.
- Lastly, much to the chagrin of UK gamers, the title definitely has no "e" in judgment, which is the common spelling found in the Bible, according to Wikipedia.

Tim Parsons @ Sep 20th 2007 10:16PM
that sounds like a good deal for the price of any PS3 game,. but i guess it's not a full game like other,. I mean there won't be a "story mode" considerign the type of game it is,. or will there? Can we play against the comp??
I'll have this right away can't wait.
EDGE @ Sep 20th 2007 10:18PM
Pretty excited about this, cant wait to check it out.
JKPierce @ Sep 20th 2007 10:24PM
The Bible's spelling aside, Ramuh uses 'Judgment Bolt.' So I'm good.
ruibing @ Sep 20th 2007 10:25PM
I think whether I consider getting this depends on a standalone EyeToy.
Paradox @ Sep 20th 2007 10:28PM
To Tim Parsons:
According to the video, there is a solo mode where you play against the computer so you can refine your deck.

@5 lol indeed he does,. and In Canada Judges pass Judgment!,. hell i don't think i've ever seen Judgment spelt with a E b4 when it was brought up because of this game was first I heard of it.
And I wonder just how hard these expansion packs will be to find once the games released?
Tim Parsons @ Sep 20th 2007 10:35PM
@7 yeah but it's just one and one competition with the comp, I mean an actual STORY, there's yet to be any indication of one ,. i would assume not with it's nature,. but that's cool,. I was just pointing it out that's all. Game as no ENDING in other words,. you play it strickly for fun all the time

plyx @ Sep 21st 2007 2:46AM
Wizards is making the cards for this. I'm getting the $70 set. 8 summoning cards included.
plyx @ Sep 21st 2007 2:49AM
Oops, meant 30. I did think it was 8 function cards, though, but the post says 4.
Nick @ Sep 21st 2007 4:39AM
@1, $70. Sony said the game was included "free". Essentially their claim is that they are selling the Eye for $70 and throwing in a game free much like the original EyeToy was. So I wouldn't expect a version without a game to be coming out.
Skyfire360 @ Sep 21st 2007 4:58AM
One thing bugs me about the add-on packs... what's to stop someone from printing them out? What if someone scanned all the cards and torrented them so people can download/print/use cards without buying them?
Egster @ Sep 21st 2007 5:27AM
Really nice. The PS3 is getting alot of great titles. Not just a bunch of FPS.
You need to register decks, they probably have a serial you need to input. Similar yto cd keys that most PC games have. If you want to play online you need a valid serial which can only be used by one person.
Robert @ Sep 21st 2007 8:35AM
@18 I think they mean with registering that you must supply some verification code of your pack of cards when you buy it
Popfrogs @ Sep 21st 2007 8:30AM
@17: That doesn't hold up too well in light of the list price for the PSEye being $40. So...it's more like you buy this game for $30 and pay $40 for the camera. Not too bad.
Tim Parsons @ Sep 21st 2007 8:31AM
@18 & 19
They will probably have security features on the card to WATERMARKS or somethings else like you would see on money, checks that would only appears when photocopied on so on that the PLAYSTATION EYE would pick up on or something. Or just a one time registration key/serial or something
I do think it kinda sucks in a way that you have to BUY with MONEY at a STORE new cards, and even then you don't really know what your getting. It's not like any other game where you get to UNLOCK them or anything.
I for one won't wanna spend money here and there to get the whole set, but yet i'll want the whole set, Which makes PIRACY very tempting. The other thing is What if someone you know or a stranger even has the game and ends up buyign a bunch of cards but then wants to get rid of it,. I mean with this registration and stuff would you be able to use cards you got from a friend or from someone else,. like would you be able to trade/buy/borrow cards from someone else if they were already registered?,. if No which would seem to be the possible case it will kinda suck!

Even the PSEYE($40) without EYE of JUDGMENT($70 w/PSEYE) includes mini-games but will these same games be with the EYE of JUDGMENT package or at least availible via the PStore?
Popfrogs @ Sep 21st 2007 9:30AM
@23: Damn, that's a good question. Maybe that explains why the packaging for EoJ has 2 discs with it.
MYPS3KilledMy360 @ Sep 21st 2007 9:34AM
@14 dont worry i think there getting it along with the Divx format so cross your fingers. i wouldnt mind playing this. the online feature is what kind of makes me geek out a little bit. i really just wan the eye but this is a nice add to it.
Andir3.0 @ Sep 21st 2007 11:28AM
I always thought it looked wrong to spell Judgment without an "E"... then again, I'm the only person I know in America that spells the color "grey".
Larz @ Sep 21st 2007 12:36PM
The problem with Wizard games is that the person with the most money to blow on it is the most powerful player.
