No surprise: Crisis Core makes PSP top selling Japanese system
When was the last time this happened? PSP finally took the top of the weekly Japanese sales charts, thanks almost exclusively to Square's new mega-blockbuster, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. Selling over 95,000 units, about a five-fold jump in units sold from the previous week.
Casual observation during our ongoing TGS experience has shown that there are more PSP systems being used in the Japanese rail than Nintendo DS systems. Certainly, the impact of a brand new FFVII game is large enough to sell hardware.

People who have said the PSP is dead are not right in the head and should stay in bed, playing their crappy FF remakes while we get something original.
daniel-kun @ Sep 21st 2007 3:05PM
Yay! Feel the FANBOI LOVE!
Now they only have to release it in Europe and/or US.
And Sean, really nice rhymes, dude! :-)

When a sequel of a sequel of a sequel of a sequel, etc. has an anniversary "sell"abration, forgive me if I "meh" in it's general direction. VII was very good. But I can't shake the feeling that it has been bested several times over. It was just ahead of it's time, which might actually fall somewhere like seven years ago instead of ten. But it's still something that Sony and Square are going to milk til they are blue in the face.
And people criticize Microsoft and Bungie. For shame.

I wouldn't use "original" referring to an FFVII spinoff.
Silver R. Wolfe @ Sep 21st 2007 3:47PM
@Edge
Sony isn't milking FFVII, that's all Square's doing. Square is still a third-party developer after all, they make the final choices as to what games they want to make and what games they don't.
And if a prequel to a game that had a sequel of a sequel is good, who's to say that it's automatically meh?
Akamaru @ Sep 21st 2007 3:48PM
Looks like an awesome game. And a big LOL to people complaining original ip. Because I know all of you are out there byuing Crush and Dead Head Fred right now.
cafecito @ Sep 21st 2007 4:22PM
Akamaru: Amen to that.
And I'm not complaining. I've yet to like a FF title as much as I liked FF7 (Well maybe FF6). So I'm pretty thrilled bout this game. Just give us a US release date soon, I'm dying here!!
schuyler @ Sep 21st 2007 4:53PM
maybe it will be enough to convince them to remake the original
Saigon @ Sep 21st 2007 5:00PM
A remake to FF is bound to happen. Everything before ff 10 will be remade, just watch.

Just goes to show that all the DS Fanboys are both totally right and totally wrong.
Wrong: The PSP is not inferior. The ability to play videos on UMD and the "lack" of a second analog stick and touch screen are not "problems" that represent "failure" by the designers. It's an awesome system, always was, and the technology has kicked the DS's ass since day 1.
Right: It's about the games. If you have games that people want to buy, they're gonna buy your handheld game console. Although I've enjoyed the heck out the the PSP games I've bought, it's pretty clear that they weren't compelling enough for the average Japanese consumer. I guess they like Final Fantasy much better.
Beautiful Irony: That UMD thingy that all the DS Fanboys love to hate? Picture trying to squash a modern final fantasy into that DS cartridge instead of the 1.8GB you get on a UMD. This FF just wouldn't have worked very well on DS equipment.
Dennis @ Sep 21st 2007 5:51PM
Yeah. Ds fanbois suck. How can u hate on Umd thats so fing stupid if ds had to load 1.8gb of information it would take a while too. And would u rather wait 10seconds for a gorgeous looking game or 5 seconds for a game that looks like a piece of dookie.
PSP_Amigo @ Sep 21st 2007 6:08PM
DS is limited to 128 megs so its a moot point to even if trying to load the amount the UMD can hold. This is great for the PSP, I think GOW sales will do the same in the US and hopefully elsewhere as much if not more sales from FF.
NotAFanboy @ Sep 21st 2007 7:49PM
"How can u hate on Umd thats so fing stupid if ds had to load 1.8gb of information it would take a while too."
That is so fucking dumb. The DS will never load 1.8 gb ok. If I were still in the 3rd grade I'll say something like. "If the psp had to load two screens it will take a while too."
Thomas @ Sep 22nd 2007 9:32AM
need FFVII bundles in the US... might as well get that same boost in the US, as they did in Japan.
Classified @ Oct 12th 2007 12:17PM
i think everyone makes very valid points. in my opinion tho, you give people what they want. apparently they wanted another FFVII spin off because the sales confirm it. i personally enjoy playing final fantasy. i started with the original on Nintendo, and have been hooked ever since. so far the only thing i have been disappointed with his how easily and fast i beat Dirge of Cerberus.
