There was a bit of controversy over the
price of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, as revealed at Tokyo Game Show. Since then, Sony has revealed a few more details on the game, the most telling of which is the game's limited track selection: five in total. While this is four more than the free
Gran Turismo HD, it does still feel quite scarce compared to the usually line-up of tracks typical to a
GT game. Hopefully, other features included in the game will make the experience seem meatier:
- 16 player online multiplayer - A first for the series.
- 30 cars to choose from - Including vehicles from Ferrari, Lotus, Nissan and Mitsubishi.
- Gran Turismo TV - Watch hot racing-relevant videos straight from the game.
- Photo Mode - The classic feature returns, letting you take in-game pictures and save them to your HDD.
American pricing and a release date have yet to be revealed. Stay tuned for continuing developments on
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

MYPS3KilledMy360 @ Sep 24th 2007 11:13PM
i say $20-$30 for a demo but the game looks sweet. this is gonna be a hard choice to make when it comes out.
ruibing @ Sep 24th 2007 11:20PM
I would pay $29 for this game. I still haven't finished GT4 yet, so I'm a patient guy.
Ithilis @ Sep 24th 2007 11:22PM
I wish they kept with the original plan and made this free. I think I'll just wait for the full retail version, thanks.
Will @ Sep 24th 2007 11:29PM
they never said that it was going to be free, there was a rumor that it would be. that's why you have to take rumors with a grain of salt...
Neil @ Sep 24th 2007 11:31PM
Not a penny over 30 bucks....I'm a big GT fan, but you have to draw the line somewhere and Prologue isn't even giving us 1/2 the content of the full game.
kingofwale @ Sep 24th 2007 11:45PM
19 dollars, not a cent more.
only 5 tracks? are you kidding me? this really should be free or included in a PS3 bundle and offer it free.
sicklesdawg @ Sep 24th 2007 11:58PM
I say 20
Tim @ Sep 25th 2007 12:25AM
It's a demo. It should be free. If they want to make money, release the full game.
Dahk @ Sep 25th 2007 12:50AM
I'd pay $30 for it.
I know no one else cares here (probably), but HD version of TOP GEAR and FIFTH GEAR on my PS3!? I was DREAMING OF THAT since the beginning! Can't get darn BBC channels on this side of the planet cept for torrenting, so maybe I can finally watch this damn series in a valid way =P.
I am SO looking to it. GT TV here we come!

It would have been smart on Sony's behalf to make this a free download. A lot of people are going to view this as paying for a demo, and Sony is already dealing with a pricing stigma.
Dahk @ Sep 25th 2007 12:56AM
In case anyone was wondering.
Even if you're not a car fanatic, Top Gear is one of the most awesome shows in the world just for its SHEER humour and the insane things they do.
Just to give you a couple samples of stuff they did this past year:
1) Shot a Reliant Robin (Mr. Bean's car) into the air as a 'space shuttle' with rocket boosters - turned into the single biggest rocket launch in UK history.
2) Two blathering bumblehead brits try to hit the north pole in a TOYOTA pick-up truck, and race against another brit in a dogsled with a pack of huskies. Most intense show ever.
3) The brits fly over to get a taste of America =P Maybe american's shouldn't watch this one ahah but its hell funny.
4) Performed SEVERAL Winter Olympic series using cars. Downhill ski-ing on a Mini Cooper with ROCKETS. Speed Skating with Jaguars, biathalons with SUVs
5) Tested an SUV and its agileness against a TANK in various terrains.
New season starts October 7th =).
Dahk @ Sep 25th 2007 12:58AM
Ithilis, "According to Gamespot".
NO ONE should've viewed this as a free download.
GT HD was good enough of a free download.
stirlo @ Sep 25th 2007 1:08AM
i'll pay _anything_ - it's gran turismo FFS....
well, wouldn't like to spend over $100 AUD, but still, if you like cars, or racing games, then pay whatever you can to get Gran Turismo, anyone else just doesn't get it
Jammer @ Sep 25th 2007 1:20AM
As been said before, Prologue wasn't free last time, I don't see why it has to be free now. That said, I didn't buy prologue last time, and I won't buy it this time. I can wait.
ryano @ Sep 25th 2007 3:12AM
i say 2 tracks and 5 cars for...free!
hack @ Sep 25th 2007 3:51AM
not gonna pay a fuckn dime for this. i'm waiting for the real thing.
Broken Haiku @ Sep 25th 2007 4:17AM
I bought the GT4 Prologue, but it was cheaper and featured more than this Prologue does. It feels a bit over the top.
Egster @ Sep 25th 2007 5:17AM
I'll buy it no matter what the price. I don't care how many ignorant people call it a demo, I will be playing prologue for hours so why should it be worth less than fully priced games that can be completed in less than 10 hours.
ck @ Sep 25th 2007 6:34AM
Shot Egster.
GT5 Prologue, or Heavenly sword. Which gives you the most value?
I know where my money is going.
coplice @ Sep 25th 2007 8:19AM

so true, that $40 prologue has a better value than heavenly sword :p
TheSh0wstopper @ Sep 25th 2007 8:43AM
Ahhhh, anytime you feel good about your PS3 you can count on Andrew Loon to make make an article to baash it. Even when discussing a good game like GT he will find a way to word the article to put irt in a dull light. How about a positive story today? Like how JERICHO will be available on the PSN this thursday!
I am soo pissed I cant get in the X360fanboy site to get on them about how OVERHYPED AND OVERRATED Halo 3 is (still a fun game though). Poor (Low) sound effects and HORRIBLE graphics. This from the most anticipated game of the year. What a joke! Someone should get fired.

ArtVandelay @ Sep 25th 2007 10:09AM
5 tracks, 30 cars, 16 person online multiplayer....I'd say $39.99. The online portion alone is worth at least 20 bucks to me.
As a matter of fact this may be the only GT I buy. I never finished any of the previous games because I simply didn't have the time. I have even less now, so this is perfect.
gooftroop @ Sep 25th 2007 9:16AM
All the people saying "this is just a demo" - it isn't. GT:HD concept was a demo, GT5 Prologue is far from a demo, name anotehr demo that has so many features; 16 player online, 30 cars, 5 tracks and numerous other features. Hell this 'demo' has more content than some full retail games, for example Sega Rally Revo - 30 vehicles, 6 racing environments (16 tracks), Online multplayer for up to six racers.
Previous prologue games have been priced at the same level as what this is rumoured to be selling at so get over it...
Sora57 @ Sep 25th 2007 10:49AM
Whatever the price is, if you buy the full game later, then the amount you paid for the demo should get credited to the purchase price. Otherwise, it is a rip off.
Brash @ Sep 25th 2007 10:44AM
You PS3 kids are getting truly desperate. You're going to pay retail for a demo...wow, that's just pathetic. "But Brash! It has 5 tracks and 30 cars! It's value, you just don't get it!" OK, so if if Prologue is worth that much, then by extension the final game will retail for...what, $150? And what about PGR, or Forza, or any other next gen racing game? Don't seem to remember those have $100 price points. Bottom line is you guys are getting desperate for good games, and Sony is taking advantage of you. Pathetic
P @ Sep 25th 2007 10:49AM
"19. I bought the GT4 Prologue, but it was cheaper and featured more than this Prologue does. It feels a bit over the top."
What a load of rubbish! Point out a 'tismo Prologue/Concept thats had more than 5 tracks, had a much more cars, let alone online, a TV broadcasty thing, or photo mode. The last 2 you can take eitherway, but its basically the same thing they've always offered *FOR A PRICE* and now it includes 16 player online action.
I've bought all the stop-gap versions, paying $35-45 then without kicking up a fuss, and it wouldnt suprise me if the EU folk had to pay an extra $5 more too.
Its not a demo, just like Teken on PSN isnt a demo, its a limited full game, anyone wanting a demo can download that right now.
If people want to set a limit on how much they want to spend, good on them, just dont complain if its the same price its always been and for a improved product. The prologue games have always been an offering for the die-hard GT fans while they wait for the finished artical, many publishers/developers wouldnt bother, Poly are offering a fraction of the full game for a fraction of the full price. Either you appreciate them doing that or you dont, your not forced into buying it, its completely your choice, but lets not complain because a company gives you the choice, ok?
Also, its interesting that as #25 says, he'll buy Prologue instead of the full thing, he's saving money, and getting exactly what he wants. The differences arent going to be much more than more tracks and more cars, most of the features will be found in Prologue, online being the biggest, and the normal GT Mode is in there too.
ryano @ Sep 25th 2007 11:00AM
oi, showstopper-
i'd leave Halo 3 out of a blog about a car game.
but since you did---
you boughtHalo 3? and you aren't enjoying it??
sure it was overhyped but so are alot of games, am i right? what is there is really really fun and i'd be hard pressed to find anyone who would disagree without flaming it for being "overhyped".
take my cousin for instance. law student. casual gamer. know's nothing about the Halo hype. played the game on co-op with him and convinced him to get a 360 and Live (oh of course Halo 3).
in your "review" you forgot to mention how much work went into the sound effects, how every bullet gives a different sound per distance, how every shell gives a different sound depending on the ground you walk. graphics while not anything new, get the job done. and the score- just beautiful.
seriously, if Warhawk had this all in a single player campaign and had a forge mode and instant replay camera to record my MP good times i'd be playing that too.
(notice how i didn't say "Warhawk is teh Suxorz!!!111!!" when i relize its a very well built multiplayer game.)
Byron517 @ Sep 25th 2007 11:28AM
@23
I have Halo 3 and I agree it's an awesome game but I don't know I think there are certain things that could've been fixed, I did feel it lacked a bit in the graphic department and the sound aspect was not even close to Heavenly Swords.. oh well either way back on topic Sony would be smart if they released this game for under $10 or even better free!! But... let's just hope somebody out there in the Sony HQ has a bit of balls to say "Hey guys this is not a FULL game let's not charge a FULL price or better yet let's hook up our loyal consumers by giving this for free!?" Ha fat chance of that happening but here's hope'n!!
Chizzy @ Sep 25th 2007 11:47AM
Count me in. I will pay 40 bucks for it when it hits the PSN. Warhawk is 40 and has been a blast. I can only imagine twhat 16 cars on the track will be like!
Pixelantes Anonymous @ Sep 25th 2007 12:08PM
Sora57, I'm with you on that! Some sort of a discount towards GT5 should be coming to any GT5: Prologue purchaser, for sure. I don't think Sony is ever going to give a full price for it, though.
BTW, I think people who feel like their favorite games are better just because some other game isn't quite to their liking suck donkey's balls. That goes to thesh0wstopper, btw.
mccomber @ Sep 25th 2007 12:08PM
I'd pay $20, maybe $30 for this, but nothing more. It's certainly more than a demo, and these releases always have been, but it's not a full game by any stretch. At $30 it's already more than half-way to what we once payed for a full game...
Sammy @ Sep 25th 2007 1:11PM
The truth is that Sony would make money off this at $20 considering that this content will certainly appear...albeit improved in the full edition. They could make a profit without building up so much resentment. Just because some people will pay this does not mean it is right. I sort of like the idea of a steadily improving full product...with features added for the full game. Surely this should change how games are reviewed. In fact even PC patching should have done this. How many games have been improved massively post release?
We cannot review games how we used to.
It may be more than a demo...but not that much more.
Sammy @ Sep 25th 2007 1:16PM
PS: Halo 3 seems a fine and polished game. While the graphics do not seem like the best the 360 could do they seem nicely designed and include a lot of colour (why do FPS and PS3 games look so washed out). I think the scores are too high....but they were silly for games like Jak II and even the highly playable 'God of War' possibly one of the funnest games in recent times. I sort of imagine it is what castlevania 3D should have been like.
It is natural to see hype though. I like Gran Turismo but even for all its qualities it was never deserving of its high 90s and 10 out of 10 scorelines. Too much was wrong. Particularly the racing model. Being a good simulation of driving is no excuse for that.
TheSh0wstopper @ Sep 25th 2007 1:39PM
@29 and 35
I got my Halo on Friday night and played it a lot over the weekend. I never said it was a bad game, I said it was OVERHYPED and OVERRATED. IGN gave it a 9 in graphics, ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! The game is jagged as all hell. And compare Zanzibar from Halo 2 to the Halo 3 equivalent, sad. As for sound. If you have a 5.1 system listen to it closely... the game doesnt even use the center channel. The sound effects are incrdeibly low. The bullets from the guns sound nice, if you can hear them. It does not sound like a shooting game.My beef is that a game of that calibur should have had much better production. Bungie pulled an EA. They knew the game was gonna sell so I dont think they went all out. I have owned my 360 since launch and own over 30 games. That game cannot touch Bioshock (graphically) and Gears craps all over it. The graphics and art style actually remind me of Perfect Dark Zero, A LAUNCH GAME!!! Online is a blast, of course its Halo. The thing people need to realize is that it is basically the same game. The problem is that when it first came out (even the 2nd one) it was amazing for those times and nothing compared to it. But games have evolved and gotten better. Meanwhile Halo stayed the same (again I am talking about production and presentation). Lackluster sound effects in a shooting game, horrible graphics and same ol gameplay does not deserve the scores that Halo 3 recieved, I dont care how big the following is. Star Wars is the biggest movie franchise but that doesnt mean that episode 1 and 2 deserve perfect scores.
Again, I never said its not a good game but it most certainly does not deserve perfect scores across the board from everybody.
As for me not supposed to talk about Halo 3 in this forum. KISS MY ASS!!! Xbots come to this site all day trying to rip on PS3. but When their biggest franchise shoots out a dud (comparative to expectation) you better believe im gonna talk about it. If MGS4 sucks every XBOT in the world will flood this site.

@29 and 35
I made a post, but it didnt register i guess. To sum it up:
Sound is lackluster- Sound effects are too low for a shooting game. No UMPHH in the shots
Graphics- A joke. Cant compare to Bioshock, Gears, or even GRAW 2. Its quality and style reminds me of Perfect Dark zero, A LAUNCH GAME!!!
WAY TOO JAGGED. Compare Zanzibar from Halo 2 to the Halo 3 version.
for a game of this calibur and reputation you expect a lot more. I am not saying its a bad game, I LOVE IT!!! But in those department it falls flat on its face.

So... what are the 5 tracks?
From the pictures, I've gathered Fuji and Daytona so far.
Damian @ Sep 25th 2007 4:32PM
I'd give them £20 IF it gave a tenner or more off the full version. Without online it's worth half that at most.
It was never going to be free though - what with giving away Concept, if this was free as well then they'd have been looking at 3 or so years of development without a penny back to date. Which isn't exactly viable...
Nigel @ Sep 25th 2007 7:08PM
Well, for a demo... it really does have a lot to offer. I don't think the sales will go very well if they try to get more than $30... but I'd pay $40 if it released after Christmas (and I had all my 'holiday' games already).
Five tracks, 16 player online, and the tv feature all sound worth it to me. And the PSN version is not likely to cost much anyway... the main reason I'm willing to support it is to help balance whatever development costs are needed to make the final game as awesome as possible.
If paying for 'episodic' content on games that still have another year in development leads to better games... I'm not mad at that.
Nigel @ Sep 25th 2007 7:12PM
I look at it like this... I would gladly pay for the first level of GOW3 if they released a demo of it today instead of the typical 1 month before release (which will not be for at least another 2 years)... I'd pay for a FFX III demo too knowing that the game is at least 1 yr away.
But that's just me & I fully understand that most ppl frown upon the idea of paying for what is essentially a demo. (although in this case, it's more like a 'lite' version of the final game)
Desmond @ Sep 28th 2007 8:17PM
It would probably be worthy, but I think it's better to wait.
usmo_ @ Sep 28th 2007 6:38PM
I completely aggree; this will be the first time me and most others will be able to experience a racing game with real competitors. I have never played an online racing game and i think this will totally be worth my money; and those who say they will not be buying it because its not free will end up getting it anyway. GT5 is too far away to miss give prologue a miss. Considering Warhawk was on the Playstation market for £19.99 ($40.00 i think) and that was online only, i think i would be willing to pay £20 for this without complaining. Its gonna be BIG
usmo_ @ Sep 28th 2007 6:37PM
Oh, and i do agree Top Gear is the best program in the WORLD; i've never missed an episode and everyone i know can't get enough of it.
