Epic: Expect more story, not cross-platform play
After months of considering online cross-platform play between PC and PS3, it appears that Epic will not be able to deliver. "The biggest challenge in doing cross platform play is syncronizing [sic] the builds such that the build on the PC is 100% compatible with the build on the PS3," said Rein to BeyondUnreal. "Unfortunately (or fortunately) when you [develop] games on console you have a lengthy certification process to go through each time you release anything new." Instead of delaying the game, this option simply won't be available -- but that doesn't count out a patch that could deliver said functionality in the future. In regard to the singe player's story mode, the team wants you to "Expect more story than you're expecting." But, if you're expecting more than you already expect, doesn't that create some kind of self-feeding cycle where the story balloons to War & Peace-like levels?

Wtf? Since when has Unreal had a story? Nobody cares, seriously. Just give us the crazy neon-colored multiplayer madness we all expect. Leave the (bad) storytelling to Halo.

Boo! Single player is always crap. Just give us better multiplayer.
And I certainly hope that their communication architecture isn't so horrible that they can't have compatible communication between the PS3 version and the PC version.
I was really looking forward to playing on my 50" TV via PS3 against my friends on their computers. Now I'll have to either buy BOTH the PS3 version and the PC version, or just buy the PC version, if I want to play against my friends. Sony, you need to step in here and give them a hand, otherwise sales will be terrible on the PS3.

Cool, I would like a more story driven first person shooter, but not like halo. The story on that game sucked.

Phew... I was confused for a second... As long as we still get the PC mod maps I'm cool...
I don't really care If I play PC people on my PS3...
The bots in UT have always been good, combined with a decent story and actually levels, I'm looking forward to teh single player...

I dont care about playing PC players, though I would like to play against all them Xbots and blow there smug asses into video hell, yes Id love to head shot one or two of em.
Now that would be online fun.
But i am getting the game anyway, cos it was so much fun on the Pc. The only thing that dose bother me is if they leave out keyboard and mouse support. Its Just not unreal without them.

PS 3 version > Xbox 360 version
PS3 has free map/mod support where you can just download a map on the PC (maybe even from the PS3 web browser though who knows) and play it on your PC. And of coursr the mouse & KB support. This game can only be properly played with those.

No cross platform play to PC? So maybe we can just play against the whole other four people who will own this game and play it online (A-la "Rainbow six vegas ps3)
Score another one for the boys over @ 360. I'll be buying it for that.

Hmm I was bored and looked compared the Xbox360 sales to PS3 sales... and the Xbox360 is barely ahead. According to wikipedia.com, as September 12th, the xbox360 has only sold 8.9 and shipped 11.6 million. Now subtract 33% from that (that's the failure rate of xbox360 and microsoft counts repaired units as sold units), so it's sold about 6 million. Now compare that to the PS3, which as of July 30th, has sold 4.28 and shipped 6 million. And considering that the xbox360 has been out for 2 years and ps3 has been out for 1, the ps3 is raping the xbox360 in sales.
Popfrogs @ Sep 26th 2007 5:05PM
"microsoft counts repaired units as sold units"
Are you serious? So the same exact hardware can be counted as a sale twice, once at retail and once leaving the repair center?
I can hardly believe this.
Tony @ Sep 26th 2007 5:45PM
I heard that from someone and now i went and searched it up. I was half right. Every defective console they shipped to retailers they took back and replaced it. Those are the ones they counted as sold. Also every time someone sent and in xbox360 and they replaced it they'd count it as a sale, but if they jsut rapaired they didn't count it as a sale. So maybe it not as high as 3 million, but there were still alot of defective xbox360s. But still the numbers that microsoft claims they've sold aren't even actually close. And reality, the ps3 is catching up to the xbox360 fast.

@Tony: Are you serious??... man, until I read that LAST post you made, I thought maybe they only sold a few hundred thousand! Due to the RROD, disc scratches, and all.
@Everyone: More story is good. =) Silly, but good... although I want cross platform play so I can lan it! Gotta love fps lan parties - especially since we can use kb+m for this one! =)
